"I was thinking that for other worlds in SSP (and some in SMP) we would generate actualy new worlds, and have the save file for them stored in a sub-directory. These world would be similar to other severs in SMP regarding travel and rules (but not generation, which will be very different), but without other players, just NPCs and you. The generation for these world will be different, and will pick what type of world will be generated when someone flys to and lands on that planet. I am saying this idea for a reason, namely that in most science fiction shows/books/games, each world pretty much has the same climate all over (e.g. desert planet, lava planet, forest planet, treasure planet, etc.) There will be several world generation choices (which will be calculated randomly):
- Forest worlds
- Desert worlds
- Lava worlds
- Normal Minecraft worlds
- Mountainous worlds
- Underwater worlds (I know that someone suggested this before)
- Ruined worlds (lots of deystroyed cities, barren, dead)
- Populated worlds (common towns, some cities, otherwise normal generation)
- Earth-like worlds
- Other peoples SSP worlds that they choose to give to us, so we can use them in generation"

First off, I'm quite intrigued by this whole idea. and I support it fully. however, I am rather skeptical about the possibility of its completion. this is a huge project. bigger than the Aether. and on top of that the idea continues to grow larger and larger. (what we in the software industry call 'feature creep.') I would love to see this completed so i would like to ask a few questions (to see if I should get my hopes up.)
How many and who you have committed to doing the programing for this project?
At what point will you finalize the design and feature list for this mod? (the release version anyway.)
When do you anticipate that programing will commence?
I want to see this happen. but I fear it may end as simply a thread filled with talk of grand ideas.

I have said this so many times and I will say it again. The mod will get done, when it gets done. Programing is a delicate art that requires 100% accuracy. The mod is still in core development. It will be a while before the mod is complete. Maybe, if we are really nice, the modders will release a basic indev pack that includes the core mod ideas. The Mod is currently on the last stages of brainstorming and is being programed currently. Constantly asking won't make it go any faster. I don't know about the current mod programing status, but if I had to make an approximation, I would say that the mod is about 20% done at best. AT BEST.
Idea!!! What if instead of having the workbench make everything, you need high tech and expensive Tech Benches, so that you aren't messing around with metal ingots on your first day and accidentally discover how to make a warp drive. There would be 4 tiers. The bottom tier would be the normal workbench and it would also make basic space stuff and the second work bench. The higher tier work benches would be larger than one block, and require advanced computer chips and robot parts and rare minerals. They would also make things automatically, so you could put a bunch of supplies in it, like 6 different stacks, and tell it what to make, and it would make it. The bigger work bench would be the equivalent of a 4x4 work bench. That would probably be tier 3. The advanced things like ships and ship components wouldn't be made instantly like normal things. They would need to be processed by the robot mechanics in the high tier work benches. It would take lots of time to make things. You would be allowed to cue things up, unlike a furnace, so you could leave the work benches and they would make things for you. (provided they have electricity powering them. robots still need electricity)
P.S. The reason that I want to have the advanced benches be bigger is that you don't just slap a work bench in the corner of your little space pod and be able to construct huge engines and weapons. I was thinking that the robotic high tier work benches should be 2x2 each plus the space above would need to be empty like a chest. (So the robotics can build things.) To use one of these expensive pieces of machinery in space to make a new ship, you would need an engineering capsule just to accommodate the size requirements. This is so, like I said before, you need special engineering ships to build structures in space that are advanced. Most ships at that point will have a generator to power the on board electronics.

There are a few people working on the mod; Certainly more than one.
The programing has already started on the basic concepts. Right now we are talking about things that will be programmed later.
I skipped your second question because I honestly have no idea. You might get a response from one of the modders, but I don't know the answer.
Is this a plugin or a mod and is it for vanilla server or bukkit
Mod and probably bukkit with plugin disable and /give or /item disabled and anticheat so that OP's follow the same rules as normal players because it is multi-server competitive.
