Didn't see one, so I figured I'd start one myself.
For the uninformed:
Quote from jaquadro»The author of Plant Mega Pack had a sudden change of heart about the whole Microsoft acquisition and made a rushed decision to stop supporting his mod. And by stop supporting, I mean remove any trace of its existence, and to an extent, his own existence.
What I wrote last night in his thread, before it was removed, is probably my best feeling without traversing the boundary to offensive.
"I don't really understand this response. Your main concern about the Microsoft acquisition, from what I can tell, is the uncertainty of what Microsoft will do to the modding community (will they shut it down?), and in doing so perhaps make this all a wasted effort.
Unfortunately by pulling your mod as you have, you have guaranteed that it is a wasted effort. While you should be proud of the work you've accomplished (it's a great piece of work), it does no good sitting abandoned on your hard disk.
It's your choice, of course, but I believe you are only fulfilling your own perceived worst prophecy.
I can tell you one thing that will not happen, however. Microsoft will not steal your mod to try and squeeze out every dollar from every parent. While they have the right to do so (by extension of the EULA you agreed to also giving Mojang this right), they will not do so. You still hold the copyright, and you have no obligation to support your mod or release your source code, and thus trying to appropriate your mod or any other mod would only be a nightmare scenario for them."
Like others before him in this community, he has created more damage than the Microsoft specter he's afraid of. Deleting his thread so that all of his fans would be left in massive confusion is just a part of that. If he comes back, the trust and goodwill he's worked hard for is gone.
If anyone has a copy of 10paktimbits' parting message, or knows anything else about what happened, post it here. With the original thread gone, there's nowhere else to discuss it.
My opinions do not necessarily reflect the broader Minecraft community.
I am aware that 10pak is continuing to follow these events as they unfold, and I believe he is genuinely distressed at how it's all played out. I don't retract anything I've said, but it is not my intention to be mean-spirited. I want to see a positive outcome along with all the rest of his fans.
Same here, man. It'd break my heart if PMP never came back because of this. There's nothing wrong with Minecraft as it is, but having known this mod basically from its first release, the world would look kinda sad and empty without it. I guess I'm spoiled now.
But that said, this kind of impulsive overreaction was completely unexpected from a modder of his caliber, and a lot of trust has been lost. I don't see a need to soften that message.
Here is the official writeup before the thread was purged. I encourage 10pak to post any further clarification of his own, and for everyone to decide on their own how to move forward.
But that said, this kind of impulsive overreaction was completely unexpected from a modder of his caliber, and a lot of trust has been lost. I don't see a need to soften that message.
Someone called me out on this on the FTB forums and I think they are correct. A lot of his fans may willing to forgive him unconditionally. I haven't done a survey - I don't really know.
Has my trust been impacted? Absolutely. Are there ways to fix it? Sure, but there are conditions.

Plant Mega Pack is dead, I'm dying, [insert 0 bpm heart monitor sfx here]
Being one of the best aesthetic mods out there, I always depend on it for plants in my structures. PMP is gone, you say? Well, I'm definitely dead. Not posting my escape map any longer, ppl don't have access to the PMP jar anymore. And I can't upload it myself, copyright stuff. Yup, I'm DEAD.
To all fans of Plant Mega Pack, you are owed an explanation, an apology, and an understanding of just what has happened recently. I do not want to send or receive comments at this time. All I ask is a few minutes of your time to gain an understanding, and perhaps answer some questions you may have.
Yes I pulled PMP from the net last week. It is still available for download. I am still developing it and I have no interest whatsoever in turning the code over to anyone. I also do not want anyone to decompile the code and make another mod out of it.
To answer an obvious question that you might have: what happened? In short, I had enough and fell over the edge.
I let the frustration of working with Forge get to me. I let the trolls in the crowd get to me. I overwhelmed myself with unrealistic goals and stayed up way too late far too many days. I stressed myself out making everyone wait for months for a release that just wasn't up to my standard. I let the Microsoft purchase push me over the edge. And here I am today, feeling disgusted and disgraced, fully ashamed at what I just did to the many fans out there who did support me, who were positive, who cared about what I was doing
There's no secrets in this post. I am a perfectionist, likely to the point of ocd. If that makes me a sick person like some are claiming then I am guilty. I also do not trust Microsoft and I have no problem making that opinion public. I don't want them to ruin Minecraft, or ruin PMP, or ruin anything else that this community loves so much. I took the time to understand their history of PC games and encourage you to do the same to gain that same understanding. There is good reason to not be optimistic. Their promises hold no merit with me today. I am very fearful for Minecraft's future.
Despite my best effort to make PMP into some sort of a good mod, I truly believe that I failed no matter what I did and the purchase was simply the last straw. I realized some time ago that I could not keep up with feature requests, develop my own ideas, maintain the issues that were being found, document everything properly, update all the web sites, communicate as best I could, and 20 other things needed. It was just too much for me to handle. I was too proud to ask for help. My own doing. My own failure to calm myself down and just breathe. Guilty.
I don't know what will happen next. I do want to move forward, and to make that happen the first thing I need to do is to stop letting the trolls beat me down. To the trolls: make your conclusions, say what you will, but do you really know me to back up your conclusions? I am not a bad person. I don't have bad intentions. I really do care very much for the community, even if it doesn't appear that way today.
I hope that somehow you have gained an understanding of what happened and why. I have a long road ahead of me to gain the respect and trust that took me so long to earn from you. If you're mad at me I completely understand. If you abandon me like I did to you I don't blame you. If you want me to feel bad, don't worry, I'm already there in a big way. I am sorry.
For those of you that know me, who care about PMP and its future, who have empathy rather than negative conclusions - I'm still around, but not in this forum. For the rest of you, I am sorry I let you down.
Can I just say 10paktimbits that you have nothing to apologize for. You created something amazing and wonderful and made my life just a bit more fulfilled as a minecrafter. But it was YOUR creation all along. You can do with it what you please. I simply want to express my extreme disappointment, however.
I know what it means to have to deal with negativity; trolls and online bullies who will enjoy the product of your sweat, blood and tears and still won't utter a grateful word, ever. The amount of work and effort you put into PMP was evident from the very beginning. Keeping all this up can be hard and I understand why you feel burned out. I also understand that you need to take some time out away from the madness of the online world.
But, I do think you're actions were rash. Microsoft traditionally was a giant ***** in more ways than one. PC gaming is a very good testament to that. I don't know if you follow tech as closely as I do but let me tell you, they have changed. There is some serious change in culture and mindset taking place at that company. Look at the recent release of Sway, a major new Office app, to iOS before WP8 as an example. Or the whole host of other cross platform services and software they are pushing. I'm anxious about their acquisition of Minecraft. But, things may still turn out for the better. I think you should have waited to see what happens. But, alas, you've made up your mind. I truly, truly hope you will come back to the community and continue making more awesomeness for us to enjoy. And I hope you can sort out the things that are troubling you now.

Oh, thank God PMP still has some life left in it. Honestly, suddenly knowing about its (what's the right term?) made me sad. Its future was already planned on its timeline, then suddenly everything falls apart. I really hope 10pak considers bringing it back here, in the forum.
Geez.. Your final message really is pretty touching, and I know exactly how you feel. If you're still developing it, does that mean you'll still update it and whatnot? And honestly, I'm kind of saddened to see you remove one of the biggest plant mods out there. And the only song I can think of when I hear this mod is this one:
(Yeah, I know it's Sonic.EXE, but at least this song is the best thing about it.)
And since you're leaving, does that mean anybody can use PMP in their modpacks?

Would you really rather have bees that make diamonds and oil with magical genetic blocks?
... did I really ask that?
Thank you so much for bringing this back - it is one of my favorite mods, and my heart instantly sunk when I couldn't find the original thread. Your work is greatly appreciated by many. I am so sorry to hear the pressure got to you. Keep your head up!
Can't find it anywhere, other than the slightly recent versions left on my HDD.
Why would someone let this beautiful thing left to rot?
*sighs*

Why do people have this reaction before understanding what has happened?
Please read this before you slam me into the ground everyone. I haven't figured out what to do yet...

Jeez this just gets better....
First off: that was posted like, 20 minutes after mine, I would've found it, as I was searching, before posting what I did.
Second: Sorry if I was rude. From the fan's angle, you just left again. I was in a rush and didn't have the luxury of time.
Third: Ignore trolls, and report them, but just don't respond to them. If the trolls get to you, then they won, and that just encourages them to troll some more!
Also, if said person is not a troll, on purpose, then s/he should be directed with the correct way of doing things, as to not seem like a troll. New users will spam 'cause they haven't been taught the ways to properly use forums...unfortunately....
I'll say it again, I apologize for assuming the worst.
(Great mods btw! Just sad to have read what has happened.)
