it didn't change the design of the home screen, i think it is that mod that when you install it that it splits the "texture pack" button in half, and beside it it is supposed to say "mods"? Help would be appreciated, and if there is a better mod loader please tell me.
Modloader is the mod that makes some mods which would otherwise be incompatible with Minecraft, compatible. As far as I know, it doesn`t do anything noticeable however I haven`t dabbled in hardcore modding in a few months.
Yes, modloader is required for almost any other mod to work, the mod that splits the texture pack button into a mods button and a texture pack button is called Minecraft forge you can get it here:
I have had a problem installing modloader on my osx mac. I follow the process of unziping the jar, and directly placing the .class files into minecraft before re zipping it, and placing it back into the bin folder. this has worked before for spc, however when I try this with Modloader, and try to run minecraft, it gets stuck on the loading screen at 'Done Loading', and never progresses from there. I tried the terminal installation, however when it said to simply copy the .class files to the temp file created, I had no idea where to find this temp file i just created. help...
P.S. my end goal is to install SPC and worldEdit CUI, which i believe are all compatible for 1.4.5 at this time

ok, but what if i do not want the modloader anymore? Can i just simpy delete and happily keep on playing without theMETA-INF file? Or will something happen to my game? Or can I delete the entire .minecraft file and re-install?

You can delete the entire .minecraft files, but make sure you backup up your saves folder in the .minecraft.
The easier method is to click force update in the launcher.
Your trying to install MinecraftForge, not ModLoader. Those instructions are for ModLoader, so they will not work on Forge. But, get Forge instead, way more mods use Forge than ModLoader, and its also easier to install.

I find it amusing that you are trying to install a mod that does one thing, when you are thinking of a mod that is actually better than the one you are thinking of.
Modloader is for copy and paste modders, with forge, everything is original and has FAR more work put into it than modloader mods, and hence, even better mods.
