can anyone help me and explain to me why i don't have minecraft.jar i don't have it so i can't have any mods without it and if i can will some explain to me how to??
Ok. So to get to the jar, click the Windows button in the bottom left of your screen, type in %appdata% press enter and then find the .minecraft folder, open that and inside you should find a folder called bin. In it should be the minecraft.jar (Might be called just minecraft). Make sure you have Winrar, then right click the .jar, click "open with" and choose Winrar. And that's it, your in the .jar.
For 7zip, right click the minecraft.jar file and select the 7 zip menu, then "open archive".
And, if you just see "minecraft" and not "minecraft.jar" do yourself a favor and while you have the bin folder (or any folder) open in explorer, go to the tools menu, then select "folder options" then hit the "view" tab, then find the entry for "Hide extensions for known file types" and uncheck the box for it, hit OK. This will show you extensions so you can tell the difference between minecraft.exe (the launcher) and minecraft.jar (the data file).

To tell them how to live is to prevent them living.
Wait, don't use the texture patcher if you're installing mods that use Minecraft Forge.
The texture patcher just injects the mod files into the jar, what's different now about Forge that this simple operation is messed up? Seems Forge is becoming more bother than it's worth, glad I don't have to use it for anything.

I think Winzip might be OK, but the ones that everyone uses are Winrar or 7zip, since 7zip is free, that's the best bet.
