No don't download from the minecraftdl website do it from the official threads, as minecraftdl does not have permissions for most of these mods. It takes a long time for modders to develop their mods and it is very frustrating when your mod is illegally hosted elsewhere.
I downloaded Flans mod there because Of the Flans Site being down, the site gives you the mod inside an insaller, my antivirus told me it tried adding ads to my browser, add-ons, and also a trojan which it quickly quarantined.
No minecraftdl is not a safe site at all. every time i download from there it gives me a exe file which gives me a virus. Luckily im using windows 8 which is not one of the viruses targets.
Well, most Windows 7 viruses do the same thing for Windows 8, so it is almost as vulnerable. The only safe ones (atleast ATM) are Linux distributions and Mac. (No, I'm not saying they don't have any viruses. They just have way less than Windows)
So as any member of the modding community is I'm well aware of the sites stealing ad revenue and even phishing donations. Even if those issues are tolerable, having them out PageRank official sites is maddening.
I've been doing lots of google related research and came across this convenient form for marking copyright violating sites as spam. https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/dmca-notice?rd=1
Do note that this is a very serious legal matter and you should read all relevant information before filing. Your copyright as per the version their site has must explicitly disallow commercial use.
My brothers - Terminate with extreme prejudice.
Everyone in the modding community has a seething hatred for sites like MCDL
No. It is not safe. I tried to download NEI from it. I got a warning from AVG (My AntiVirus) finding tracking cookies as it was downloading. I cancelled the download,(Which the installer did NOT want to do.) Then ran my virus scan again. This is what I found: A Malicious Signature on a MinecraftDL installer.
Whoever owns minecraftdl.com is getting money off of people's HARD work. ALWAYS make sure you're downloading from the official thread or post, which supports the real creator. I'm hoping Mojang will do something about these sites getting paid for doing nothing. They are technically STEALING...thus a reason to be shut down.
99% of the links are viruses.
