I have a macbook running OSX 1.5.8
2.4 GHz and 4 Gigs of RAM
I have Minecraft Beta 1.3_01 running as of today 02/28/2011
When i play minecraft I run the .jar version through terminal and give it a little more memory.
This just to let you know that this is my setup and this works for me.
Anyways, now to the point.
I have had alot of trouble trying to install mods, and FINALLY by sheer willpower i believe I GOT IT!
So i thought I would make a step by step tutorial on how I got mods to run on my mac.
create a folder to house your downloaded mods.
(it pays to be organized)
i called mine mods
I also have an alias/link to the all necessary appdata folder,
a separate folder for my actual minecraft application,
and a folder for random stuff which i will not go into.
open up your alias folder to your appdata
or go here: /Users/"username"/Library/Application Support/minecraft/bin
(To create an alias right click/control click on the folder and click "Make Alias")
(rename it to what you like)
first copy the minecraft.jar folder to back it up,
I rename the backup minecraft_orig.jar
should anything happen you can just delete the
other one and rename this back to minecraft.jar to start over.
uncompress and open up Zan's Minimap mod you downloaded
and drag all of the files in that folder into the "minecraft.jar Folder" we just created.
delete the META-INF folder. (DONT FORGET THIS)
Now here is the part where the Magic happens.
open up the "minecraft.jar Folder" we just put the modded files into
and press command A to select all the files in it.
Now right click/control click on any one of the files
Click Compress ### items.
your number might vary.
this will create a file called Archive.zip
rename or delete the other minecraft.jar file you have
just remember to keep the minecraft_orig.jar in there.
rename the Archive.zip to minecraft.jar and put it in your bin folder.
now run minecraft and WALA!
please comment and let me know how it worked for you
and what system you have and such.
ya i have an open .jar folder called minecraft_modded.jar that i use as a base for adding all my mods, but
i didnt want to make it anymore complicated for users. i am planning on uploading more pics for the last part.
do you think my tut is good the way it is? or should i add more pics?
Yeah this works great for the people that don't know how to use it. What I do is just keep the minecrat.jar folder and just basically copy paste. People make things way harder then they need to be honestly.
An internet cookie to you, good sir. FINALLY got Single Player Commands working. I think your instructions to delete the entire META-INF folder was what got it finally working for me. Or maybe it was zipping the items in the minecraft.jar folder instead of the folder itself. Either way, working. Mad props.
System: Mac OSX 10.5.8, 2 gigs RAM and 2.8Ghz proc.
I've been working on getting my Mac to run Minecraft with mods but to no avail. This is a good tutorial, but it says the exact same thing that I have found everywhere else and it, unfortunately, does not work. I follow the instructions to the letter and all I get in the end is either a crash at 90% or a black screen of death. I'm under the impression that my Mac has the same specs as yours so if you think that I am doing something wrong please let me know.
Im not well acquainted with the mods themselves to make any mod compatible with another.
Thats over my head.
The thing that really worked for me was going into the .jar folder and selected all the files, and then compressing all of them. and the deleting the meta-inf folder.
If you did both of those, and its still not working then, unfortunately I dont know what else is wrong. :sad.gif:
Im terribly sorry that i cant help. :sad.gif:
Thanks for the comments! :biggrin.gif:
Im glad i could help someone out there.
every tutorial i found out there did not tell me about the archiving method, they ususally just said to zip it.
so i ended up zipping the folder, which wont work.
Glad i could help you guys, and sorry if i cant more.
Hey i just did everything it said to the letter and it didnt work, my minecraft runs normally and nothing changed.
I'm also wondering what do you do with the 2 mod loaders? it seems they do nothing. Please help meh!

Also if I helped you in any way please feel free to push that nice little green button! It helps a lot!
The part where you say "uncompress your minecraft.jar file using Stuffit Expander." is a little confusing, or at least didn't work for me because stuffitexpander is a piece of junk. I right clicked on my minecraft.jar, selected "compress," and this gave me a zip file that I could open into the minecraft folder with all of the class files.
I went through the whole thing and of course got a black screen, but then realized that I had never done anything with the Modloader and Audioloader files. Of course, you do the same with these as you do with your mod files, which is to unzip them, open the folders up and add their contents to your minecraft.jar file. Anyways, I was just thinking that you should specify this because it gave me a little trouble.
You can really just use any unarchive tool to do this. Just right-click, open with, Archive Utility or whatever. When you're done modding the files, you can select the files and folders inside of the extracted folder, compress those (not the folder containing all of them), and rename to minecraft.jar.
