I made a post about how to install a mod (seeing as there' no instruction with it....HURR) and I only got one reply that basically said "Go look for help by sifting through pages of topics" but I can't find the topic.
I looked around and the closest thing I found was:
1) Open up %appdata%, if you don't know how to do this, start>run, then type in %appdata%
2) Browse to .minecraft/bin
3) Open up minecraft.jar with WinRAR or 7zip.
4) Drag and drop the necessary files into the jar.
5) Delete the META-INF folder in the jar.
6) Run Minecraft, enjoy!
"Drag and drop the necessary files into the jar." doesn't really say much and being there's no instructions there's no way to know which files are the "necessary files" xD
I'm just trying to install iConomy and I can't figure out how D:
Theres a texturepack folder for texture packs. Simply searching around will help you find out how to add texture packs.
But the instructions that you posted in your first post are exactly correct. Just drag and drop. all the .class files are just on the front of the .jar Do not decompile your .jar, Just add in the .class files into your .Jar and it will work!
First, be sure to close out Minecraft. This is essential. If you reach any errors, ensure that minecraft is fully shut down, and nothing is opened in any other programs such as modding tools like INVedit.
1. Locating your Minecraft.jar
Go to your %appdata% folder by typing "%appdata%" into Windows explorer or into Run(Win+R)
This should take you here: Make a backup of the .minecraft folder! Copy it to your desktop, put it in a zip or rar, but be sure to back up!
Go into the .minecraft folder... you should see this:
Now enter the bin folder:
2. Opening the .jar
Simply right-click the minecraft.jar, go to Open with, then click on 7-Zip File Manager
You should see something similar to this folder:
3. Installing the mod
Download whatever mod you wish to install and locate the .zip .7z .rar or whatever it came in. Sometimes this might be your download folder! In this example, it's a .zip. Open it, and place it next to the minecraft.jar 7zip window.
Now simply drag all of the class files, you can exclude any readmes(though you should read them!) into the minecraft.jar.
And click Yes
4. Deleting the META-INF
Still within the 7zip window, enter the META-INF folder and delete any files that start with MOJANG, such as MOJANG_C.DSA and MOJANG_C.SF. Do not delete the MANIFEST.MF.
Now close all 7zip folders and test the mod out in Minecraft: if it does not work revert to the backup you hopefully made previously. Most mods will work if they are the only mod you install, and this isn't after a major update, but if you double or triple-up on mods there may be conflicting .class files, breaking the mods or your game.
i was doing good untill i got to "minecraft.jar" because i didnt have that. there was "minecraft" though but the only thing i can open it with is Java...

That's because you don't have an option enabled in Windows that displays known file types.
And if you installed 7zip, you would have been able to open it in there. If not, launch 7zip on it's own by going to it's folder(C:\Program Files\7-Zip) and launching the 7zFM.exe, then dragging the "minecraft" into there.
edit: or go to "Open with", "Choose default program" and un-check the "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" option towards the bottom, then browse to the 7zFM.exe file and click OK. I believe this should add it to the list of programs.
If you want to know how to display known file types, such as .exe or .jar, press ALT in Windows Explorer (Computer), and go to Tools, Folder Options, then View. In the "Advanced settings" pane, uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types"
Also, the previous how-to a few posts up seems to be just modifying the client and not the server. The server is a whole different jar file.
Well, the OP did not specify if he wanted the Client or Server(unless the mod he mentioned is server only, I didn't check) so I just assumed that he is running the client.

well
a) in my old post that no one responded to I mentioned server, but I forgot to say it this time
:cool.gif: it's a mod that basically sets up an economy. Sound like it's for for single player, doesn't it? =P
I guess I'll try and figure out what the heck the iConomy site is saying, though from reading it, it looks like to even use iConomy to buy something from someone you have to type a crap pile of commands into chat, which isn't what I was looking for anyways =/

I imagine installing server mods should be relatively the same as client mods, though I wouldn't know anyways. Try what I listed but with the server.jar, unless you are running the .exe in which case - I really don't know.

Question: What if the mod didn't come with any class files?? <.<
I just have a bunch of PROPERTIES files, an JAR file called "iConomy", and a bunch of SQL files
will mods work if I clicked <Open With..> and chose 7zip on a ".class" file... because I did
If mods DON'T work... please tell me how to fix it
- Thanks in advance

Opening the class in 7zip? That's not what you are supposed to do, you are supposed to place the classes from the zip/rar/7z/etc into the Minecraft jar. Think of the .class files as .txt files or something, not to be opened.
I am a bit stuck, as i can't seem to find the Meta-Inf folder. Its not in mine minecraft.jar file....
Any help please :biggrin.gif:.
Then don't worry about it.
When I install mods I frequently forget to remove it, the game crashes, then I go back in and remove it... this is because it isn't always there. I don't have much more information about it though.
Anyone think I should post my guide(slightly tweaked) as a separate thread? >_>
when i put the laggless explosions in the folder after i have deleted meta inf and have no other mods installed it doesnt work! :sad.gif: can you help me
im making a HUGE explosion and it crashes so i really need this

This tutorial uses Windows 7 and 7zip. You can get 7zip for free from their website, here.

For setting up just the iConomy plugin (after installing heyo's mod), look at this.
