Crystal Caves is a small mod that adds crystals to the world of Minecraft. Different sizes of crystals will now spawn in caves and the nether. Crystals glow with the same light as redstone, and drop Crystal Shards when broken. Crystal shards can be used for all sorts of nifty things.
Here you can see several small crystals, plus the smallest size of "big" crystal:
Crystal shards can be crafted into a variety of things...
Crystal Tools:
Crystal tools can break the same blocks as iron tools, are slightly faster than iron tools (but slower than diamond) and are as enchantable as gold tools, but their durability is between iron and stone. Still, it's basically a much more useful version of gold tools, since they last so much longer.
Crafted like so:
Crystal Bone Tools:
Crystal Bone tools are crafted with bones instead of sticks. This doubles their durability, so that they now have 150 more uses than iron.
Crystal Glass (and Crystal Glass Panes):
When smelted, crystal shards harden into shatter-resistant crystal glass, which has the same blast resistance as stone. It will also drop itself when broken, without needing the Silk Touch enchantment. Sweet!
Crystal Block:
Glows slightly, like other crystals, but its main use is for storage. Sure looks pretty, though.
(Crystal Block is on the left, raw crystal is on the right. Raw crystal can only be harvested by using Silk Touch on a large crystal)
Not sure how, but basically what would be required is the crystal parts to have values depending on if they're used on the head, handle or extra area of the tool. The head also determines the speed and base damage of the tool
Almost all Tinker's tools also have a bonus effect for a type of material being used in the tool. Not sure what might fit crystal best, though...
Also, while more of the high-end materials are metal-based and generally use the smeltery, I think the crystals could work as something that just needs the part building table and a stencil to form (unless you think molten crystal would be cool).
EDIT: While just filling you in, checked back on Tinkers and realized it hasn't updated to 1.11 yet anyways, so it isn't anything to worry about. Even so, you shouldn't worry much if you want to keep your work specifically to your mod.

I had thought about adding liquid crystal originally, but decided not to because 1) I couldn't think of a use for it, and 2) it would require some kind of new device, otherwise you would magically get a bucket from the furnace whenever you smelted crystal shards.
But if Tinkers Construct isn't 1.11, then it's a moot point.
Looks like lots here and on curse including me are looking forward to a 1.12.2 release of your mod Steelfeathers! Hope you haven't abandoned this project of yours.

So beautiful, thank you for your work! Does he support Tinkers Construct?
1) I'm glad you like it. I worked hard on this.
2) I'm not sure what Tinkers Construct is, or why/how my mod would need to support it....
EDIT: Okay, seems like Tinkers Construct is a big tool mod everyone uses. If someone could tell me how to add compatibility, I would gladly do it.
I really like your resource bundle, I share with my friends.[/p]

I had a few ideas for possible future expansion:
-Crystal armor
-Crystal lamps that glow as bright as glowstone
-Crystal guardian mobs that spawn around large crystal deposits to protect them
Let me know what you guys think, or if you have any more ideas!
1 Crystal can emit flashing light
2 Use the crystal to make a bowl, put it into food, eat faster.
Is this coming to 1.12?
I would be super stoked if it did!
1.12.2 Please and Thank you
