Could I ask how you made the custom holding animation and firing animation? I'm making a mod that adds certain 3D weapons, and it would be nice if they had custom animations.

I don't know what you mean by holding animation, but fire animation should be very easy to figure out! Just try thinking about it for a little bit, you will learn more if I don't just tell you =P

I render my own right and left hand, you can't really use the default hands for custom models. I'm sorry, I'm not going to give you more details than this, because if you really know Java you will be able to figure this out.
The only thing I don't expect you to be able to figure out easily even if you are experienced in java is the method required to apply the player texture. If you can get your weapons to the point of working well and rendering the hands, I will show you how to do that as that requires part of minecrafts api, not GL11 rendering.
Sorry, it's just the rule that I have set in place for everyone I come across, I only give out tips that will point people in the right direction if they already know java well.

I think it would be awesome for a future update to add gun malfunctions and jams. It would be logical that a gun that had a mudbath would not function correctly, would lose accuracy or not fire at all.
Each gun would have a historically accurate jam value, for example, the Sten was cheap but jammed often, and the Gewehr 43 was known to explode in the face of it's user, a contrario the american Thompson or french Mas 36 (i'm hoping to see the first iteration of a ww2 french faction in a minecraft mod here :D) were known to be reliable

This was actually planned right after I made dirt possible, I planned to make it so that normal dirt does not jam quite as often as mud(when the dirt gets wet), and that each gun has different chances.
By the way, I thought it was the Gewehr 41 that was very unreliable, and the Gewehr 43 was quite a bit more reliable, but nowhere near as much as a M1 Garand?
France is certainly planned, as well as Italy, Finland, and more!

If you do add such a feature, make sure you can enable and disable it.
Also, make sure that it is possible to unjam your weapon, but I wouldn't recommend the "explode in your face" feature, that's kind of unrealistic. Usually, a weapon would only do that because of these reasons;
-The cartridge was loaded incorrectly.
-The wrong cartridge was used.
-The weapon wasn't properly taken care of (this is why soldiers must constantly take good care of their weapon as well as jamming)
So, I would be okay with jamming (as long as you could disable it in-game), yet I would not recommend adding a weapon break feature.
Also, the Gewehr 41 was Nazi Germany's attempt to create their own version of the M1 Garand. The Gewehr 41 used a stripper clip and completely different bolt, and yes, there were many improvements needed to be made. Later, in 1943 the Gewehr 43 was made to fix the issues of the Gewehr 41. For instance, it used a detachable box mag instead of a stripper clip and its bolt was completely redone to be much more reliable (supposedly it was copied from that of the Tokarev SVT-40).

Oh, you don't have to worry about it, I plan for it to be off by default because of the anticipated amount of complaints. The type of jamming I plan to add is more along the lines of the cartridge failing to eject, fixed by simply re-cocking the gun. I have experienced this in real life with the unreliable .22 lr round.

-Guns fired under water have a lower pitch
-Bases now render through blocks
-All bolt action rifles now have the new bullet model

Hey, I got a huge list of things to do for the event 27th-31st that need to be done first. These include fixes to the assault gamemode, and many new features that would improve gameplay a ton, such as wire cutters, satchel charges, anti-infantry mines, czech hedgehog render distance, etc.
But, be assured that Sandbags are a likely possibility, because they would greatly improve gameplay for the event. more 3D armor is going to have to wait until after the event.
By the way, was there any blocks of war mentioned that would fit as an actual block? because those long log posts would just be better made out of normal logs, as well as those gate things.

The only thing I don't expect you to be able to figure out easily even if you are experienced in java is the method required to apply the player texture.
