i tried it briefly last night and i like it. i'll likely keep it and i keep very few mods.
bridges look fantastic, the deployment is functionally good. using something that looks like a grapple gun feels somewhat out of place, but oh well...
it's a must have for people who like extreme hills, and it gives use to string which you basically don't use after your second bow and second fishing rod. it would go well with andy's loom mod (he started porting the mods to 1.8 but is taking a break, it seems). there is one issue but it is easy to fix - you need to check for replaceable blocks (snow layer) at the start/end points and destroy them (there is the IsReplaceable method on the block class).
Now ported to 1.7.10 for those who asked. The only cut I had to make were the models for the gun and bridge boards which were replaced with simpler nice-ish textures. The bridges will also build over replaceable blocks now (Thanks MoonFather). Enjoy.
Sorry about that, link is up to date now! Thanks for the tip, as soon as I get the custom models working on 1.7.10 I will add that feature. My issue is that if a player has multiple types of slabs in their inventory it could then make a multi-colored bridge. I will look at some options.
This is looking good! I'm throwing together a collection of mods for a private server, and this is looking to be a good candidate. Before I add it though there are a few things I'd like to suggest, should you be interested.
First, a config option to disable the wool to string recipe. It's good for those who don't have other mods to deal with a lack of string, but otherwise it's in the way. A config option to specify what item to use in place of string (and perhaps also a ratio of how many are needed per block of bridge) for people who have mods that add rope items would also be a plus.
My last suggestion will probably be more trouble than its worth, but I'll pitch it anyway in case in interests you. I'm personally the kind of weirdo that like to build things myself and shies away from excessive automation, and though I like how the rope gun builds the bridge like it does, I think it would be cool if there was an option to have the rope gun only fire the rope, and the player then can place the slabs themselves. This also would allow making patterns with different wood types.
The Rope Bridge is Episode 224 in my Minecraft Mod Review Collection.
Thanks czechmate777 for this really cool mod!
