I am an amateur modder with a vision to fix and enhance Minecraft. Except for my first mod, the Brazier Mod, everything here is focused not on adding new stuff to the game, but on enhancing what is already there (sometimes by adding new stuff). I don't think Minecraft is broken...just bits and pieces of it.
I am making mods primarily for a private server I run. This page serves mostly as a downloading point for those mods. If you are not one of my friends on the server, feel free to use the mods anyways, but understand that I won't be checking this page very often.
All of my mods are for 1.8 and I do not plan on changing that. Plans may change.
If you want to use any of my mods in a modpack, go right ahead, but provide a link back to here.
WildAnimals, a mod which attempts to re-add Beta animal hunting while keeping modern farm mechanics
WildAnimals
This mod adds 9 mobs, most of which are more or less vanilla farm animals. The big difference is that, with two exceptions, all of these mobs will spawn and despawn like monsters, except in the daylight and on grass. Normal mobs (except for ocelots, see bottom) should not spawn with this mod installed, but they might anyways.
These are the wild versions of your traditional four farm mobs. They have mostly the same properties, except that the sheep can't be dyed and all but the pigs provide less meat. They spawn in any biome with grass except for ice plains. You can tame them into their vanilla counterparts with their respective breeding items: wheat for cows and sheep, seeds for chickens, carrots for pigs.
Wild horses and wolves don't get special textures because players already assume the vanilla textures with their taming behavior. Wolves can be tamed with bones, and horses by persistent riding, just like the vanilla mobs. The only difference is that these mobs will spawn and despawn, so you never run out of wild horses and wolves!
So, rabbits... I have an issue with vanilla rabbits. On the one hand, they're clearly farm animals because of their drops. On the other, they have special, diverse textures like horses and cats, animals you want to keep around for their uniqueness. What's up with that? Well, rabbits were originally going to be pets, but during the snapshot phase Mojang decided to make them farm animals instead...but kept the pet textures. This bugs me, so this mod (barring errors with spawning) totally does away with vanilla rabbits. Wild rabbits, the dark brown ones, spawn in flat biomes with grass. They can be tamed into farm rabbits, the light brown ones, with carrots. The farm rabbits can be tamed into pet rabbits, which use all the vanilla textures, using golden carrots. Farm rabbits are bred with carrots.
You may have noticed that there are no ocelots in this mod. While making it I discovered that vanilla ocelots actually spawn and despawn in the wild already, so there is no need to add them.
Happy hunting!
CHANGELOG:
V1.1
-Reduced wolf spawn cap from 5 every 200 blocks to 3 every 200 blocks
-Wild wolves now cannot spawn within 20 blocks of a vanilla tamed/wild wolf. This lets you prevent them from eating all your sheep.
-Sheep and wild sheep no longer drop anything when killed by wild wolves.
SprintNerf, a very simple and small mod that (hopefully) has significant gameplay changes.
SprintNerf
This mod causes sprinting to reduce your hunger more quickly.
That's it! Very simple. It barely took two Java classes to create!
The reason I made SprintNerf is twofold. Firstly is the problem of sprinting vs running. Sprinting serves as a means of long-distance travel in Minecraft, which means it is at least misnamed. More importantly, I don't see the point of adding it as long-distance travel. You might as well just make the player move faster by default! "But it takes more hunger and it's still useful to move slowly!" Well it takes a little more hunger, and yes moving more slowly is useful...but in the end, you've essentially made the player move faster by default. That, I think, is silly and unnessecary. Now, what if you could move more quickly for a short time at an equatable cost? That is a better mechanic. In addition, moving at a walking speed by default increases the value of other forms of transportation, and thus encourages players to build transportation infrastructure. Roads for horses, railways or tunnels for minecarts, even aqueducts for boats if they get clever! I don't claim that any of those are not valuable in-game currently, but that they would be even more valuable if the player wasn't constantly running from place to place.
The more important reason is that I believe the ability to move so quickly for so long makes monsters less dangerous. Remember the days when you could only walk and monsters moved only a little slower than you did? In those days, monsters were terrifying. There was no way you would wander around at night unless you were a very skilled monster hunter. But now if something gets too close you can just run outside of its aggro range. Monsters are still dangerous, but they downgraded from being a terror to being a nuisance. At least, that's my experience. Because I love that frantic survival experience, that necessity of having a well-lit fully-walled base and the terror of the dark beyond, I decided I had to re-balance the monsters somehow.
Another thing that this method of nerfing sprinting does is create more value for food. Ever noticed how easy it is to feed a nation on Minecraft? You can sustain yourself on four plots of carrots, and anything more than that produces many stacks of food just lying around! But if sprinting takes your hunger bar more quickly, you still can run around everywhere, but you will need a lot more food. I don't think this mod will force players to farm too much more, and I don't want it to, but the little value boost is nice.
So that's my theory. You may not agree, and I may be wrong about some or all of my points. Let me know what you think and what your experience is with the mod!
My first mod, the Brazier Mod. It is no longer maintained but is mostly functional.
I've tried to put the following into a spoiler but it just won't go. I'm afraid we'll all have to deal with the extra wall of spoilers.
The Brazier ModBy TheRedMezekHello, I'm TheRedMezek! I decided a while ago to start making Minecraft mods, and this is what came out of my efforts. This mod adds four new blocks, three of which provide light at varying costs in iron, and the fourth serves as an aesthetically pleasing way to cook food (or other things which don't require a ton of heat). Their purpose is to provide a higher tier replacement for torches in castles and other fine establishments. NOTICE:This was my first mod, and I've moved on from it. There was a very persistent lighting bug with the cooking brazier that I never managed to fix, but aside from that it should all work fine. Don't expect it to be updated! Except for this notice, all of the stuff in this spoiler is from the original post, and much of the first page of comments here is directed towards it.

Known Problems
The cooking brazier currently emits light when it's off, which it absolutely should not do. I will fix this as soon as I sort out my development environment again...

Please understand that downgrading to 1.7.10 would be very difficult. This mod makes extensive use of the new 1.8 .json model files, so unless there's a program out there that can convert my models to a previous Minecraft version and the community really, really wants me to downgrade, this mod will not go back further than 1.8. If you make something cool with my mod, please post pictures of it! I appreciate knowing if people are enjoying my work. This is my first time making a mod, and publishing something on the Internet, so please tell me if something's broken or I should improve on the thread format, or whatever. Also, if you want a translation for your own language please post one here and I will implement it.
Whoa, people are here! Sorry for the slow response, nobody posted for the first couple hours and I haven't been back until now. I'm glad you guys like my work! Thank you for the feedback and mod reviews. I'll update the main thread presently.

sometimes responses are slow, but I like it. It's a very good and useful mod. Very well done sir. Please keep it up.
Thanks! I've seen it before but skipped it cause I didn't think they had anything less than 128x which for technical reasons isn't really doable for me. Good thing I checked the download page this time.
Ooh, nice! I especially like your use of them on the building exterior. This isn't anything I had imagined; I'm glad people are already finding creative uses for my blocks.
P.S. Actually, could you re-upload those pictures using Imgur or something like that? I'd like to use one in the creation showcase.

Cool mod. Two thumbs up.

Very pretty decoration, and a must to any castle building.
