After 3 years, it is finally complete. Or part of it at least.
Elite Armageddon
This mod's sole goal is to destroy your world. Your goal is to survive it.
To begin, install the mod with the instructions below, create a new world and use the Select Apocalypse button to choose your destruction.
Content
EA supports plugins and contains its own API which can be found on my github. It currently includes one content pack (more will be added soon)
Solar Apocalypse
The first content pack of many to come.
You have four days to gather as many resources as you can before everything on the surface is burnt to a crisp. On the fifth day, anything caught on the surface will be set alight.
This screenshot was taken in a world that had the effects of the apocalypse accelerated. Your world will look more burned and dead.
You can follow the implementation guide on the github page if you want to integrate EA in your mod.
Installation
This mod requires Minecraft Forge, which may be found here.
These are builds directly off the github repository. They are automatically done by drone.io.
I'm relatively new to this platform, so if anything is broken let me know.
Bugs can be submitted through the github bug tracker. All beta builds are for 1.7.10.
These builds may be unpredictable. It is likely that it is very possible that these builds might work. Or not.
Known Issues/Intentional Issues
The solar apocalypse plugin is currently the only working plugin. Any bugs relating to the dysfunction of the other plugins will be ignored/deleted. This is not accidental.
This is separated from the main post to differentiate any content exclusive to the beta builds from any main releases. I ask kindly that nobody join these two together.
Yay, thank you! This mod was discontinued and that was a annoyance.
You could fix a 'exploit', tho: When the solar apocalypse is fully operational, animals shouldn't spawn anymore. Else, setting a huge roofed area with glass will allow for big fields of animals spawning.
I can tell you as I had some cows and sheep in a small patch of grass at the entrance of a cave
I thought they changed spawning so animals didn't spawn on grass.
Even if you could, it'd be incredibly difficult to do it in time.
Solar Apocalypse disables grass growth.
Maybe it would be better if Solar Apocalypse disable plant growth and evaporated water only where the blocks in question had either direct access to the sun or were within so many blocks of the surface. That way you could create underwater reservoirs and subterranean gardens and pastures filled with all manner of mobs. However, it is a Solar Apocalypse so you could also have the game say once in a while that a solar flare strikes your world and then have that event tear into the world and remove a quantity of blocks. That way even your underground features you would have built wouldn't be safe. Ultimately, there needs to be an end game scenario; like build a stargate and enter through it to find a new world with a stable sun system. Which could lead to some fun indeed, if the Solar Apocalypse is actually Galactic in nature. Maybe giving you a 5% chance to find a world that doesn't die in 4 days. Perhaps the end game planet should be one that is both jungle and a bit of desert, teaming with life and ancient structures. After 4 days in that world, the game ends and credits scroll congratulating you on your adventure.
I know how you said no amount of code can change this on the other thread, but can't you make it so that all water disappears at once after many days, not just a block at a time? Sorry if this is a stupid question.

Licensing and Modpacks
The API is licensed under the Apache 2.0 license, which can be found on github.
You can include EA in your modpack, if your modpack:
-> Notifies me of inclusion or has my permission for inclusion.
-> Does not make money off downloads of EA.
-> Allows the user to add/remove content from EA.
Multiplayer
Multiplayer is broken in the official release.
To use multiplayer, try the beta builds below.
This mod has not undergone any beta testing by anyone other than me, and has had no server testing.

YEEEEEEEEES.
Wait, no 1.7.10 version? Dammit! I was searching for solar apocalypse before XD
Maybe you could include the mod that makes darkness kill you?
I was going to backport for 1.7.10 now. I had been developing for 1.8 the whole time so I've focused on releasing that.
Edit: I have submitted my backport for approval now.

oh my, an epic challenge?
I agree with this.

Yesss I am so happy right now! Thank you so much and I can't wait for the other features!

Yeah, that would be awesome!
You can build underground structures consisting of grass/water blocks but no additional grass will grow after the first day.

Yeah but with that idea it's better to shelter a huge area than creating a underground area...
Maybe cause fire to randomly appear where the sun hits?
I'll do that for the next update.
Flammable blocks will be set alight in sunlight.

Alright! That'll get rid of huge wooden shelters x3
I remember sand being smelted into glass. I had a cave by a beach and I could dig sand without the problem of being burnt (because of the glass)
Glass shouldn't protect you from being burnt.

It did back then.
That was obsidian glass. I haven't implemented that yet.
They'll probably come with the next full release.

Nono, normal glass. I literally dug at the beach and the top, molten sand (into glass) protected me lol
Normal glass doesn't protect you now though.
I'll be implementing special glass that does in the next update.

Alrighty then!
I wonder if you could also add the wasteland generator mod
