Version 3.1.0 is the last major update I will do for two years. I have been called to serve a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, or the Mormon church. I will be serving the people of Argentina! I am so excited, especially because I have prepared for my mission my entire life! I know that this is what God wants me to do and I can't wait to go. You can learn more about me and my decision to go, visit on my mormon.org profile here or follow along on my blog here, where I will be posting weekly about my experiences and adventures!
As a result of my decision, I won't be around to answer questions or fix bugs. However, I am planning on leaving someone else to watch over my mods, so don't hesitate to comment or submit bug reports. While I'm gone, enjoy the mod!
Sheep love rocks, they just don't know it. Teach them to eat stone by weakening them with splash potions of weakness and feeding them diamonds. They will quickly reject their previous grass-eating behaviors for anything rocky. Ore sheep will eat stone, stone stairs, netherrack, stone slabs, buttons, pressure plates, cobblestone walls, mossy and regular cobblestone, gravel, and regular Minecraft ores. When an ore sheep eats an ore, it will begin growing that ore instead of wool. "Shear" the ore sheep by right-clicking it with a pickaxe. Two ore sheep can be bred with any stone-related block to yield a baby ore sheep that grows one of its parents' ores. While in creative mode, you can induce an ore sheep to grow an ore by right clicking the sheep with your ore of choice.
Version 3.1.0 is out! Download it below!
Please submit bug reports here. There are almost certainly going to be bugs in version 3.0 and I need your help to squash them!
Sheep can now eat just about any block, including blocks from other mods and grow them instead of wool! Check out this tutorial to find out how!
Download the latest version above. Do not unzip or decompile it.
Download the "Recommended" Minecraft Forge "installer" for your version here. It should be called something similar to "forge-1.7.10-10.13.0.1179-installer.jar"
Run the Minecraft Forge installer.
Click on the "Install client" option. The installer should do all of the work for you.
Navigate to your .minecraft folder. To get there, go to the start menu (for windows), and type "%appdata%", then go to "Roaming", then .minecraft. For mac, open a new finder window, then press Command Shift G. Below "Go to the folder:", paste "~/Library/Application Support/." If you don't already have one, create a folder in your .minecraft folder called "mods".
Put the Ore Sheep version into the mods folder.
Run the Minecraft launcher. In the bottom left corner of the launcher create a new profile. Name it whatever you want but make sure the "Use version:" is the release of forge for your version. Save the new profile.
Whenever you want to play with mods, make sure that the profile in the bottom left is your forge profile.
Here is LexLV's showcase. It was posted on the minecraft forums homepage! Thanks Lex!
Mod pack policy:
You can use my mod in your mod pack as long as you give me credit for my work, include a link to my mod, and don't make money from the mod pack. An occasional update about how your pack is going would also be great!
Rewrote the system for determining how many sub-blocks a block has. Essentially, this means the mod is faster, more accurate, less resource intensive, and less crashy!
There is no longer a lag when looking at an ore sheep for the first time because textures are now drawn when needed, rather than all at once.
Revealed debug mode. Add the entry "true" to the top of the OreConfig.txt. Then while in creative mode, right click an ore sheep with:
a stick or blaze rod to move through the block array.
an apple to print an its block info.
a bone to load all ore sheep textures again (warning- this may take several seconds!)
The mod now detects all ores from the forestry, biomesoplenty, and artifice mods.
Fixed some blocks not being sheared by the correct tool. (Blocks with "mud" in their names)
Ore Sheep can no longer grow double slabs.
Fixed a crash with the Artifice Mod.
Removed extra log block metadata from array.
The log text file now gives more information on bugs (easier for me to fix!)
Fixed a crash with the Jabba mod (better barrels by Mobius). Sheep do not eat barrels!
Added the "OreConfig" text file, a configuration file that allows sheep to eat blocks the player specifies. It can be edited while the client is running, when not in a world. Servers must be restarted for change to take effect.
Sheep can now eat other mod ores and blocks.
Added the "PossibleBlocks" text file that shows the player what blocks the sheep can be.
Added the "Log" text file. If the game crashes, or bugs occur, send this file to the oresheepmod author.
Sheep must now be sheared with the appropriate tool. You can't shear diamond with a wood pickaxe, dirt related blocks must be sheared with a shovel, wood with an axe, and wool with shears.
If in creative mode, the player can use bonemeal on a fully grown sheep to grow back its ore. If the sheep is a baby, the bonemeal increases its age.
Ore sheep now have block dependent sheared textures.
Sheared sheep ore can be changed in creative, just like non-sheared sheep.
When sheared, sheep make the break sound for the their block instead of the stone breaking sound.
Added Spanish language files.
Netherrack sheep can now be obtained in survival mode and acts as a regular ore sheep ore by default.
Fixed a serious server side crash.
Added the netherrack ore sheep.
Most other mod pickaxes now shear sheep as well.
Sheared ore sheep now have ore splotches instead of wool ones.
Ore sheep now use resource pack ore textures for their own textures. This means that ore sheep will take the appearance of the ores in installed resource packs.
Converting a sheep no longer removes its name tag.
Due to popular demand, ore is again genetically inherited.
You can now change baby ore type while in creative, just like adults, by right clicking on one with the ore you want.
Shears are now damaged when you try to use them on an ore sheep. Ore sheep are rock solid after all!
Wool ore sheep can be sheared with shears and drop 1-3 wool. But how would you get a wool ore sheep anyway?
Minor bug fixes and improvements.
Breeding two ore sheep now spawns a regular baby sheep. Ore is no longer genetically inherited
Removed ore sheep "ghost" client entities.
Ore sheep are now bred with many different stone blocks and ores instead of wheat.
Ore sheep now also eat netherrack, stone slabs, cobblestone and stone brick stairs, stone bricks, stone buttons, stone pressure plates, mossy cobblestone, and cobblestone walls.
Added ore sheep!
Please comment. I love to hear your suggestions and input!
That's a great idea! I'd like to make it so an ore sheep type can exist for any ore that is added to the game. The hardest part of that would be creating a texture for each of the ores in a mod. It would be awesome if the mod could create the textures automatically, but I don't know how to do this. I'll look into it.
loving the mod looking forward to modded ores and maybe a config to have him eat compressed metal blocks like a block of iron for example for modded metals as for the ore type you could just have the sheep take the color of the ingot/metal if its modded and only texture the vanilla ores that would be a rather easy call to make
