Would this work with 1.7.2? Because I definitely do like this!
Edit: It does good work!
Good to hear.
Back-compatibility can be tricky though. Sometimes everything looks like it works and then you'll hit an edge case that breaks. Let me know if you encounter problems.
This is amazing! I love it, it's just like JABBA but in a simpler, efficient way for non-massive items
I'm surely adding this to my pack, with the corresponding credits of course... Btw, are you planning on adding some sort of mod-compatiblity like Bibliocraft does? (With BoP, Highlands or Natura, for example). It would be kind of cool
It's not high on my list. But I've already done some of the work necessary to make it happen in my Modular Flower Pots / Garden Stuff mod (I support wood posts and fences in all those different flavors). I'll make a note about it.
It's just an idea but, can you add auto-wood registery? Because I'm playing with a mod that add redwood (log, leaves and planks) and... If it can help you: a lot of mod add their planks into OreDictionary under "PlankWood"
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
When you post a mod: "No pics no clicks" and "MCreator = bad ~99% of the time"
Similar to the above comment, I've put more wood types on my list. I'll make a note about the ore dictionary. It would probably make my job easier.
On another note, I've added a section to the OP on localization. I've received a couple translations now, and I'll probably see more of them. They will slowly get out of date if I add new blocks/items/etc. I've linked all of the language files to their location on GitHub. If you see an out-of-date language file that you can add a couple new names to, please feel welcome to do so. You can edit the files directly on the GitHub website, which is very convenient.
A few questions, will your mod work with pipe structures like buildcraft, ender io, etc and if so is their a way to configure what items go where in the 2 and 4 drawers? (I like to automate my storage areas.)
A possibility of a singular larger drawer design with the possibility of replacing barrels? No sense in having multiple mods capable of doing the same thing Also will there be a config file?
It works with hoppers, so I assume it would work with pipes. I don't use BuildCraft, and I haven't tested it. There's no way to configure destination. It's first-come, first-serve. If there's an item already in the drawer though, it won't accept a different item into that drawer. JABBA has a concept of locking which preserves the item slot even if there are no items in the container. I haven't added any equivalent to that at this point.
Are you talking about a 1x1 configuration (whole block = 1 drawer?) If I followed the existing model, you still wouldn't get more than a hundred stacks out of it, and barrels can hold thousands. I could tweak the numbers or the upgrades but it's not my goal to duplicate everything that barrels can do. That's a fair amount in JABBA's case. I don't know about the other barrel mods.
I could add a config file but I have nothing to configure yet. Do you see anything already in the mod that should be configurable?
Man this is defiantly going into my minecraft when 1.8 version of this mod comes out
But one thing im missing in all the description is, how many items/stacks (only 1 type i get that) can be in the different drawer types and also how many when you upgrade them?, could just be me missing some text somewhere but i just can't seem to see it anywhere, haven't tested this since i have been using snapshots for a long time now.
This mod looks really good. Congrats on an excellent mod.
Now on to my reason for posting...
I'd like to see a hammer that can be used to remove upgrades (one at a time preferably), a way to pick up the cabinet and move it without withdrawing all the contents (similar in function to a dolly), and it would really make my day if the number of stack could be possibly quadrupled for the base drawers. I only say this, because it seems like an awful waste of space for the convenience at this rate.
Anyways, it' a good mod and a nice start of awesomeness.
Ahh I see well I shall experiment then with Ender IO pipes and let you know the outcome
Yes I was hinting at a 1x1 single drawer lol (Kitchen like cupboards, i like to design XD)
It might be nice to be able to limit which types of drawers could be made, i.e. the 2 draw or the four draw for some reason, the possibility of restricting mod integration (Example would be you didn't want to make the drawers out of natura wood).
Configurable draw stack size might be nice too, either half the default starting size, the normal starting size or double the default starting size for inventory space, any more than that would probably take a way from the feel of your mod.
Lastly maybe an option to retrieve the previous upgrade when applying a new upgrade or not
After playing about with Ender IO pipes I have come across that it works fine, lovely even, pipes only attach at the top, back and bottom.
However after transferring exactly 1 Stack, 64 items, from out of a chest, the large double drawer block has ended up with 79 Items in it, considerably more than the 1 stack I setup to be automatically placed into it. There where 5 different stacks in the chest and I am glad to say that no other stack was harmed in this scientific experiment!
Edit:
With further scientific experimentation, don't worry I didn't hurt the drawers..... much, I have found that this duplication works on all drawer types and worse on the small 4 drawer, as this produces 96 items from a single stack when transferred a difference of half a stack :/
I'll have to get the mod and play with it. Do the pipes transfer items individually or has a full or partial stack? Minecraft has a dumb way of working with IInventory blocks that makes it tricky to emulate inventory when you don't actually have one. So I'm not super surprised a problem cropped up here. Item duplication will go on the top of my list of things to fix though.
WAILA has a problem with this mod: Drawers only update WAILA when a player update the content!
Do you mean they update any time you add/remove items, or just the first time you put items in a drawer? Put another way, does WAILA only fail to update if you're feeding drawers through hoppers/pipes?
Man this is defiantly going into my minecraft when 1.8 version of this mod comes out

2, 4, 4, 8, corresponding to the physical volume of the drawers. Though as suggested above, I will probably make this configurable.

I would like to make this compatible with the JABBA dolly since it's already compatible with a bunch of containers. But that would require getting changes accepted into JABBA. As mentioned above, I will probably make the base capacities configurable for those that want this to be more of a bulk storage mod.
I think there's still benefits to having a smaller capacity block if you do plan on storing smaller amounts. Right now I'm exploring ways to represent how full a drawer is (as an upgrade). Here is one design I am considering:
The dark red bars are of course redstone indicators that would fill up as a percent of how full your drawer is. If your base capacity were large but you were only storing a couple stacks, they'd always be dark. On the topic of indicators though, I am open to ideas for representing how full a drawer is. There's the WAILA support which is good for those who use it, but I'm still looking for a built-in alternative as well.
I really would like to see a way to lock in what item goes in what drawer, similar to what JABBA does. That is the one feature for me that will make this a mod I can't live without.
Applied Energistics has gained so much popularity because crafting can become so tedious at times having to find everything in chests. JABBA helps but really takes up a lot of space. Your mod can cut the space to a quarter of what Jabba can. Combine this with Steve's Workshop and crafting can become enjoyable again. Thank you.
To begin with the item conduit (item pipe) only transfers 1 item at a time, after you have placed some upgrades into the end that you are extracting from it can pull a stack at a time, I did my tests without using a single upgrade in the conduit though.
I like the bars idea for indication, a suggestion though, possibly make them turn yellow when half full and red when full (configurable of course), rather than as a gradient, that might get a little awkward to see for some people.
In the future would it be possible to see which drawer you are opening, in a similar manner to a chest opening?
My thought on the bars was to match the number of states to the size of the textures in use. E.g. at the default 16px, you have 6 pixels and you'd have a 6-state gradient. If I understand your suggestion correctly, the indicator states are 0-49% (dark), 50-99% (yellow), and 100% (full)?
As for animating the drawer .. maybe. Even though my main block is rendered as part of the world geometry and I've built up a lot of rendering infrastructure for that, I can probably cheat without too much pain.
I'll do a test release with indicators at some point and you can get a first-hand look at them. They aren't actually implemented now. I just threw together minimal rendering code to get an initial feel for the look.
When it comes to redstone output, there's a few different ways you could do it:
- The emptyness state of each drawer, multiplexed together in the 4 bits of redstone signal.
- The overall fullness of the set of drawers. Unless they're all holding the same thing I'm not sure how much this makes sense?
Does this mod work well with other mods? As in could I add this mod to a mod pack and have everything play nicely together? BTW; I watched one of SSundee's most recent mod reviews and this was in it so thats where I learned about this mod. Very cool!

Well that would explain why my traffic graph went weird. That's cool.
It should play fine with other mods. If you do find a problem you can post it here and I'll take a look. There is currently one reported item duplication bug when feeding the drawers with buildcraft pipes. I will hopefully investigate and fix this tonight (didn't have time last night). There's also a bunch of suggestions floating around now that I will be sorting through in the coming weeks.
New update is out to fix a couple serious automation issues. There were problems with Ender IO and BuildCraft, and probably a bunch of other mods. I hope those are all cleaned up now, but I haven't played with automation since the death of RedPower. I will probably look at config next.
1.0.3 - Sep-05-14:
Fixed item duplication bug when using Ender IO pipes (and maybe other mods).
Fixed item transfer bug when using BuildCraft pipes (and maybe other mods).
Fixed buttons, fences, and other partial blocks not appearing on front of drawers.
