Auto Sapling was a quick little mod I made in about 30 minutes, but is actually very useful.
When a sapling item would normally despawn, it replants itself on the ground!
-
Why is that useful?
It's useful for two reasons: when you chop a tree down, you often leave before all the saplings have dropped, this mod plants those saplings, growing the forests over time and it makes automation of trees much easier!
-
Does it work with mod saplings?
Yes! Well, it should for most saplings (if they inherit the base sapling class). If you find a mod it won't work for, let me know and Ill see if I can fix it!
-
That's stupid why would I want that?
I have no clue, don't download it.

NO PICS NO CLICKS!?!
What do you want a picture of? A sapling? Ok, here you go
This is really useful! Just one request: could you add a config option so that instead of planting every sapling that the tree drops, it only plants one sapling on the block the trunk was, and the other saplings just drop normally?
That's not really possible as there is no way to track where the tree was,
Cool idea! One question: does the player have to walk away from the decaying leaves for the sapling(s) to auto plant? Because I like to go out exploring and collect trees that catch my attention and bring them back to my base to use and farm. Does using this mod mean I don't get any saplings?
*sorry if this seems disjointed, I changed my thought process half way through writing it*

The sapling appears when the item would normally despawn, so the chunk needs to be loaded.
just to be that guy, i tested the whole 1.7.2 thing...not exactly sure how the mod worked at first (i didn't read sh** i won't lie) i threw over 4 stacks of saplings all over the place on my poor abused test world (there's more holes than well...nevermind that...). then i was confused for a moment and came back to the forum and noticed "When a sapling item would normally despawn, it replants itself on the ground." so then i played the waiting game...i got tea and a sandwich. when i came back there were planted saplings everywhere and some trees.
IF YOU DON'T CARE TO READ MY RAMBLING: long story short is that it works just fine for 1.7.2 just like any other mod i've came across for 1.7.10. no compatibility issues or anything that i've noticed either. *has over 70 mods in use*
if you read my rambling...well good for you because i didn't
maybe a "only plant if there are no other trees/saplings within an x block radius" option? (combine that with a "leaves at the edge of the no-decay area will very rarely drop saplings" feature and trees will soon conquer the minecraft universe!)
Maybe add a percent chance of planting that can be configurable? I don't know how easy/hard that would be but that might be a cool addition. Otherwise, super cool, thanks!
I've noticed that the saplings are "replanting" on any block. I've seen them in trees, on top of grass. I think you'll need to add a block check so they only replant on dirt/grass.

Nice work trying to save the world from illegal Steve logging.
You deserve a medal for helping raise awareness of illegal logging!
Trees shall be saved!

Probably not, most mods will be updated from 1.7.2 to 1.7.10 pretty soon, as it was not a huge update.
