I would, but even the terrain generation of Minecraft gives me the middle finger before I can even start something like that. 9 times out of 10, it spawns me either under the water of an Ocean or on a tiny Survival Island with no trees in sight. And on those rare chances I dont spawn there, I either spawn underground in lava, or in a Frozen Biome, which es me off more than being stranded.
Look up a minecraft seed? And the altar is cheap. Crazy cheap. It's only expensive when you upgrade it. Mine cobblestone and 45 iron. Smelt a couple cobblestone. Cut down a witchwood tree. Find a couple vinteum ores. Profit.

I agree with this statement. Ive always hated starting a new world because I'd end up having to delete it and start another within the first couple of minutes due to Ocean biomes. And no mod that Ive found has been able to do away with the useless Oceans. Other than the Wasteland mod, but that does away with alot of things like Saplings.
Because the Crafting Altar multiblock structure was disgustingly expensive. I looked over each one in the Compendium and they were all relatively expensive with how crap my luck with finding ores to begin with is.
Uh, no, not really. I mean you can make one out of stone and glass, what exactly is the problem?
I didnt see one of Stone and Glass. I only saw the Diamond Blocks, Emerald Blocks, and blocks I never saw before.
Are you sure you read the entry correctly? Because I think you just saw the pictures of how to build one. On the entry, there's an entire list of materials you can use in building an altar.

Biomesoplenty lets you do away with oceans if you want.
Go into the config file and look @ biomegen file near the bottom you can turn on and off the vanilla biomes.
I can't seem to get caster and caster runes to work. I power them, put a spell in them, and a focus. The caster (containing a projectile spell) creates the animation of the spell when triggered with a redstone signal, but the projectile doesn't actually do anything. The caster rune (containing a self-heal spell) causes an error in anyone who walks on it.
A detailed walkthrough of the error, its code path and all known details is as follows:

I'm very excited about the new sigil system! So excited I raced to craft all of them! Most seem to do what they claim to do, but as far as I can tell the sigil of the felled oak simply does not do anything. One time I think I saw some particle effects, but that's it.
Is this everyone else's experience?
Hey Kirin, didn't expect to see you here! But uh, how close is the sigil to the tree you want cut, because they have to be at within 4 blocks from it unless you upgrade it with inlays.
The spellbook is pretty glitched out int the latest version. does not cast the spell and does not let you wind up with it. (hold right click). MCPC+ Server if that is relevant.
I have been using any combination of my 3 skills (projectile, physical and fire damage) and never got any XP for casting them (yes I did hit something). I didnt get any affinity points either. My version is 1.1.0.
I was all for giving this mod a shot, until I saw that you need so much crap to make the Crafting Altar. Im sorry, but what I saw in the Compendium about how to make a Crafting Altar was too much. Yes, I know the Block called Crafting Altar is nothing, but the Multiblock Structure was just way too much. Ive uninstalled this mod and I dont see myself playing this mod again.
O.O your kiddin right? just smelt some glass and build one outa wood you can use any of the materials written their...sounds you didn't understand what was written their you can swap all the materials and customise your alter

The same happened to me, apparently projectile spells do not give xp. If those were all your spell components you may have to cheat some xp to gain skill points for another spell.

Uhhhh yeah, you need to re-read some #@&% I think. Here I am trying to find ways to make Minecraft HARDER. lol. And if you don't want ocean biomes there's tons of mods that change terrain generation. There's even a mod that lets you choose a whitelist of biomes to spawn in. I personally have Biomes O plenty and you enable/disable any and every biome you want at will. And I dont know if it is just me, but since I updated to 1.6.4, I find villages waaaaaay more often. This is a great mod, and I think its balanced pretty well. If you just want everything handed to you, play Creative mode. Minecraft is about finding resources, MINING them and then mining some more. Dont get me stated on all the mods that help you find ores. There's even semi legit-is ones like Greg's Prospecting, but I imagine fidning the resources to build the tools in it to help you be too daunting for you too...

Yeah I'm kind of noticing a pattern here...

Any help?
More detail: It was a crash upon startup.
