So, no one can help me? I don't see a config option for disabling boss summons, and I can't summon the Water Guardian only in our server.
Well, people have had problems in the past. Mostly it's been due to problems in setup, so be very thorough. Ensure the entire redstone inlay "circle" is in a river/ocean biome, and don't forget both the boat and the bucket of water, people have forgotten one or the other in the past. Also check that peaceful mode is off, perhaps even check to make sure the spawn limit hasn't been hit, as I don't know if that might prevent spawning or not.
Inlay circle was perfectly inside a river biome(also tried in a ocean biome), all the times I tried it was raining and I didn't forget the boat and the bucket of water. Tried the exact same thing on singleplayer and it worked. Peaceful mode is certainly off because other mobs atack me as usual.
Might have to check spawn limit, didn't think about that.
I don't think I tried opening the roof of the room. If that affects the summoning, that might be it. Didn't think about that before because I didn't see it stated anywhere that we should do the summoning in a open area.
So would anyone know of a wide area excavation spell for AM2? There used to be one on imgr but the guy deleted it. I had to start a new world because of corruption (power supply died as minecraft was closing, 2 hrs later after the swap, minecraft wouldnt load the save so...).
I remember if you had a full moon mana icon you could do 13x13 area but if there is a way to make that bigger, would be great. Ended up being 13 wide, 13 long, and 4 deep. I never liked the 'dig to bedrock' spells because i use them just to clear out a nice square area under ground.

I'm pretty sure if you ask on the Feed the Beast community spell book, someone will have the grammar for you. As for I, all i focus on is Offensive and Defensive magic... Not much on the utility. And Mith, I saw the Arcana server boss fight... sad to say i was a bit disappointed... no one was using magic except for a little here and there and of course a healing spell. Moar magic on the boss fights maybeh???

I tried the spellbook and all the spells seem to be 'lets dig giant holes to the bedrock'. If you just want to dig to the bedrock, why not just use modular forcefields to make a world eater. Figure i would ask here since it seems people were tossing around spell concepts.

I agree, and using magic definitely makes the bosses easier, but people can fight them however they want to.

The dig spells of old have been nerfed.....heavily in 1.2 going to have to get more creative to form nice new ones.
So I was playing on/admining for a server, and we noticed that the Dig effect can bypass spawn protection (and someone else claimed it bypassed Towny protection as well). Has anyone had any workarounds on this, or is it something we just have to deal with?

suggestion: using spell parchment and arcane ink (vinteum/purified vinteum+ink) in an inscription table to make a one use magic scroll. may require it to be charged with enchanting levels or essence to cast it. a good way to sell spells to other players or test out a spell before going through the process of making it. should probably cost more but i can't think of anything.
Suggestion: come 1.7 update the use of baubles mod for talismans that can be charged with essence and used to cast and maintain a self shaped spell. alternately using baubles for a single spell effect with a range of self, perhaps being infused the same way armor will be.
Please Mithion, I'm not just gonna drop this. There needs to be a config, people are using the Earth Guardian summon to bypass towny. What they are doing is summoning it just outside the border of towns to break stuff. Please add some kind of config to either disable specific guardians for spawning for for the earth guardian to not break stuff.

I think that you would be best at using a:
Projectile>Aoe>Radius 3x>Dig spell.
If you however need some spell to (literally) 'grief a world' or crash one then use this:
Projectile>Aoe>Lunar 3x>Dig
For the best effect use this at midnight and at full moon. The result (last time I checked) was a 1.25km2 one block deep crater. Just don't expect to be able to cast it at level 99 even on diminished.
What that spell does is create a low cost zone that allows you to spam projectiles for up to 5+ minutes that create a huge crater every time it hits something. This should be enough to ruin almost anything. And at a low mana cost . Just a warning: Once the zone is activated you cannot stop it. Use carefully!

I answered you already - repeatedly bugging me isn't going to make it happen any faster.
Perhaps I could make it so that it won't fall near players who are less than magic level 10, so that it doesn't appear until you start to get into the mod.
that is a brilliant idea. people who have not started with the mod or don't plan on using the mod won't be bothered but those involved in the mod will get what they need.
I follow you on zee twitter, looking forward to the new release with configurable spawning for light mages(and other mobs), and hopefully this bright idea too ^

I added this to 1.2 dev this morning - for those who don't agree with level 10, it is configurable. If you set it to 0, meteors will behave the way they do now.
So Mithion, regarding the whole Earth Guardian block destroying griefing thing, why don't you add a sigil or something like that that blocks boss summons in a large area? That way people who need it could make their towns grief-proof and it wouldn't interfere with your design of bosses.
Well, people have had problems in the past. Mostly it's been due to problems in setup, so be very thorough. Might have to check spawn limit, didn't think about that.

Probably something involving the new shape.
Strong possibility of it being fixed in 1.2

The majority of them will be. But I am sure that mine will remain very much unchanged

And here's my nastiest griefing spell:
Beam>Zone>Duration 3x>Projectile>Aoe>(Solar/Lunar/Radius) 3x>Dig
