Taking your first steps.
Getting started in AM2 is quite simple to do.
First, you need to find a pool of liquid etherium:
Place an item frame within a few blocks of the pool, and put a book into the item frame, and watch the show.
This will give you the Arcane Compendium, which has everything you need to continue using the mod, from guides, to structures, to items, to bosses.
The Compendium by default is staged to unlock as you go - this can be turned off via config.
Keep in mind, the compendium doesn't limit progress, so even if something is locked, you can still craft and use it. Using and crafting items/blocks that you haven't yet unlocked will unlock them, as well as other items directly related to them.

This mod has taken a considerable amount of my free time over the past couple of years. If you enjoy it, consider donating. If you'd rather not, that's okay! I hope you enjoy the mod all the same. If you'd like to be mentioned here, or request a specific feature be prioritized, please leave a note with your donation. Also please let me know if you'd like your name listed below as a contributor. Thanks!
There is a chance with any update that your save may get broken. Back up your world and configs, just in case! Also, be sure that you read the patch notes before upgrading! There may be special considerations.
A brief note about 1.7.2/1.7.10 - I do not guarantee complete stability! This is a late BETA version and may have problems. Of these, note that shrink doesn't reduce your viewport properly and thus is exploitable. On servers you may want to disable it. Also the Ender Boots do not properly flip your view. There may be others! You have been warned!
vonDoomCraft (Ars Magica 2 1.2.0.019) [Note that this is a 2-part download!]
This one's a bit different as it comes in 2 parts due to how some of the textures are done. The first download is everything and you would copy that over to your resource pack as normal. The second download is just the spell icons. To get the new spell icons you will have to extract the contents of that zip file into the 'assets' folder of the Ars Magica 2 mod itself. Ars Magica 2 will not look into resource packs for spell icons currently, it will only look into it's own mod zip file.
I have a question... (bug reporting instructions too)
I'm having trouble with Optifine...
Gravy_Wizard has you covered! Here's the fix he posed that has worked for quite a few people so far: Download the Optifine FML Patch (thanks to karyonix) from here: http://www.minecraft...8#entry24582828 Then, just copy the contents of the patch into the Optifine jar, and throw it in the mods folder. The patch works with any version of Optifine for MC 1.6.4.
When is 1.7.x coming?
1.7.x will happen, but not until after the 1.2 update comes out. A small update will be released afterward with the sole purpose of updating from 1.6.4 to 1.7.x. Note that 1.2 will be the *final* update for 1.6.4, and will not be supported after the 1.7.x update.
I found a bug!
That's unfortunate. The forum however, isn't the place to post them. You can post them on the git bug tracker. Check to see if a bug has been posted already before submitting yours! Link: https://github.com/M.../issues
Read this or I may ignore you or flat out delete your "report".
How to report a bug:
If your post is nothing more than "it doesn't work", I will simply close the issue
If you are using MCPC+, which is an unsupported platform (as it does strange things to the way Forge works), then you need to reproduce the bug without MCPC+. If you can, then post it to me. If you can't, then it's an MCPC+ issue and not my problem.
Be sure to include the full ForgeModLoader-client-0.log file (or ForgeModLoader-server-0.log file if on a server)
Do not trim this! I need the full log. You may think you're doing me a favor by cutting out "irrelevant" information, but you're not! So don't do it!
Include steps to reproduce the issue. The more information I have, the better I can solve your problem.
This may sound harsh, but the reality is, I am willing to work with you, but you need to work with me. This is an extremely large mod, and I don't really have time to poke around on a wild goose chase looking for an obscure bug. That takes away from new feature time! So help me out
This mod crashed / This mod doesn't work with X other mod! It's a bug, etc.
Very unlikely. Typically these are simply block ID conflicts or some such other thing. Make sure you check your log file, it tells you exactly what the conflict was. If it turns out it's not a conflict, see above.
Something Something Something Complaining About Textures
Just don't. I can't stress enough how little I care.
No PMs please! Details below.
So here's the deal. You want Ars Magica in your mod pack? All you need to meet are three simple conditions:
Your mod pack needs a link back to this forum post
You cannot make any money off of the mod pack
You cannot claim that you made any part of the mod, and you must give credit to the author of the mod (Mithion)
If these three conditions are met, then you have my permission to use it in a mod pack. Have fun!
