You should make it so that you need to kill a certain number of the specific mob in order to get the ability associated with the mob.
IE: kill 16 zombies and you get the zombie transformation and then zombies can't track you
Or.......
You should make it a timed transformation (similar to Ben 10 ) and the more of that mob you kill the longer you can stay transformed as it.
All the way up to like 10 minutesEven if these options were just a config setting it make it much more realistic/ less over powered.
Obtaining a boss mob morph is disabled by default due to known issues morphing into Twilight Forest's Naga and Hydra. If you want though, you can enable it in the config file

When mango eggs fly, what is the square root of the tomato?
I do like the config options to disable the flying ability until a certain goal is reached. Flying does need to be valuable and should be maintained.
Maybe if it was level dependent, like you receive the ability to fly after killing the wither or going to the nether but must have a minimum LVL like 20 or 30 (configurable). That way if you die you will need to gain the levels back to fly again.
Morph Classic: Gain morph through killing mobs, and no ability limit. Meaning Bats can fly from the start, etc. Morph Standard: Gain morph through killing mobs, must reach the Nether (or The End in config for more hardcore play) to access abilities but not traits (such as breathing in water as a squid). Morph Hardcore: The Current plans already in place for the mod. Meaning, you must find the meteor that crashes down, get the thingy that gives you the morph ability, etc.
This way, everyone can be happy. Although I can see this getting hard to maintain, so maybe implement this in the configs as options.
I love this mod and I have become fond of Custom NPC. BUt when I go to morph into a custom NPC I alwaysappear he be in the ground blocks not on top. Is there a way I can fix this???
Given the bat's erratic flight patterns, I think it may be more appropriate to have a jetpack-style flight rather than a creative-style flight. As for the Blaze, give it the same mechanic, except give it the floating ability that chickens have. This would serve to mimic the blaze's slow descent when not in combat. This way it's a little more balanced as well as being more accurate to how the mobs behave.
There are also many options for checks and balances. Such as auto-removing armor when morphing into a non-humanoid form. Giving the same maximum health as the mob you're morphing into can also help keep the balance in check (would give everyone a second thought when morphing into the bat when surrounded), and once again making the player more like that mob.
But I have a few suggestions, if you don't mind (I realize that this is very much a WIP):
1. Make it so other players/mobs can ride you if you turn into a ridable mob (a horse, for e.g.), and equip horse armors and stuff.
2. Make it so you can turn it off, or "blacklist" certain mobs, or something like that so you don't have to keep deleting them from your morph list, or turn into a Zombie during the daytime while low on hearts.
Ok, here's a strange bug report, my cousin finally had the chance to join us on our DW20 1.6.4 adventure on our server, since he just joined, we gave him OP status and instructed him to travel to the Nether via our Portal so he could fly in a bat form, but even if he travelled to the Nether, he can't morph in bat form, I made sure my config file was correct and the settings on the server and the client is we have to travel to the Nether to get fly ability, but he can't fly or morph in bat, he can morph into a Hecate and he's able to fly, but not in bat at all... My question, is the Nether requirement linked to the player achievments or not, if its the case, he will have to work his way to get his own Nether Portal to get it, but I don't want him to have to work the achievments for nothing since they reset so often on our server that it would be pointless... I even added him to the whitelist but it does nothing to allow him to fly or morph into bat...
