Actually you didn't say you tried it zipped and extracted, you mention the zip part, especially in your last line. It does work with 1.4.7 as that is still what I am on. I would manually install Forge and then install the mod, instead of using an add on, which is not mentioned or recommended in the OP to do it.
To be honest, I while I like the dinosaurs, I am not interested in them adding more or other kinds. I am more interested in the future updates which will add more structures and bring in the archeology aspect of the mod. The title of the mod is Fossils and Archeology, not "The Dinosaur Mod". Fossils aren't living dinosaurs, so while it's cool and all that they are there, the other part is what I like and want to see more of in the mod.
However, fossils are not living dinosaurs. No where in the mod does it say dinosaurs...although I know it was in the original and to me already has to many. Right now it doesn't seem like a mix between the two...it seems to be a dinosaur mod and that has where the focus has been up to this point other than microjunk working on making the structures that already existed spawn correctly.
I love the mod, I just would like to see some of the other aspects of the mod get some attention for those of us not as into the dinosaur part. Because other than putting them in a zoo...I have no desire to have dinosaurs in my world. Also, fossils exist for things other than dinosaurs, so I hope that something is done with that as well.
Very nice ideas. I like all of those very much, especially the NPC villager. Perhaps in addition to finding fossils you can find building materials from ancient civilizations that can be used as well and fossilized plants that can be re-animated.
That said, right now we don't really have a roadmap for archeology right now. There wasn't a whole lot to do with it in the original so we are all going to have to sit down and figure out how we want to start going about addinin archeology. There have been a few ideas thrown around already, but, I feel, nothing that we can go, "ok, this will be a great feature, here's how it all works". And at this point, Shadow has done a fantastic job rewriting and adding to the code to the point that I feel we could spend more time thinking about features other than dinosaurs; how they could be integrated in and how it would all work.
I am using the exact same setup and names work for me.
After the 1.5 update comes out, I might take a crack at making a f/a module for NEI.
Archeology doesn't just deal with buildings and ancient races...it includes much much more.
From Wikipedia "Archeology is the study of human activity in the past, primarily through the recovery and analysis of the material culture and environmental data that they have left behind, which includes artifacts, architecture, biofacts and cultural landscapes (the archaeological record). Archaeology studies human prehistory and history from the development of the first stone tools in eastern Africa 3.4 million years ago up until recent decades. (Archaeology does not include the discipline of paleontology.)"
"Fossils (from Latin fossus, literally "having been dug up") are the preserved remains or traces of animals (also known as zoolites), plants, and other organisms from the remote past. The totality of fossils, both discovered and undiscovered, and their placement in fossiliferous (fossil-containing) rock formations and sedimentary layers (strata) is known as the fossil record. Fossils vary in size from microscopic, even single bacterial cells one micrometer in diameter, to gigantic, such as dinosaurs and trees many meters long and weighing many tons."
Just saying that the title of the mod and what it actually is are not accurate at this point as the focus has been on dinosaurs which are neither fossils or archeology.
And you know the difference between what? 0.o
Also the addition of user made content I think could really progress the mod. If the community has easy ability to create their own dinosaurs the mod could expand to endless proportions. Obviously none of these until very far in the future, just where I'd like to see the mod go.
There's always the latest changelog on the main post. It was right under the news section.
Find out how I generate....coolAlias...world structure generation and rotation tool...
Thanks again for all your hard work on this mod. This mod is just so good all around. It definitely needs to hit the major modpacks and become a seminal mod for those.
Cheers!
