I would like to bring to your attention a problem with the way you compiled your code. Very simply, it seems that you compiled it assuming all your users are using Windows.
Java is currently on version 7 (from oracle), but Mac OS is still on version 6. Apple, in all its "wisdom" decided to keep on with Java 6, and provides updates to that version of Java itself. Minecraft is thus built with this in mind, and is compatible with Java 6. You, however, built your plugin in such a way that it is only compatbile with Java 7, which won't run on Mac OS without some rather heavy intervention to get rid of Apple's version of Java 6 and install Oracle's 7. I did this to get your plugin working on my Mac, since I really need a chat log, but most people won't have the ability to do so.
Just for your information, here is what happens when you try to run your plugin on a Mac:
java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: (class filename) : Unsupported major.minor version 51.0]

Whoa - I didn't expect any issues using Java 7 to compile code, given that Java was updated to version 7 a few years ago.. but it never struck me that Oracle's Java didn't work with Mac OS. Thank you a lot for reporting this to me, I'll make sure to update and recompile the launcher and class files for the mod for Java 6 instead, and will hopefully be pushing an update later today.
I really feel privileged to see some people going as far to install my mod as you have. Of course, it's not ment to be this way, but it's still a very special feeling. Again, thank you!

I recompiled the mod for 1.7.3 and 1.7.4 with OpenJDK 6 (Java 6) as well as the installer for 1.7.4. I hope this helps future Mac OS users.

Im trying to install Chatlog 1.7.4 into an existing profile (with no mods on it) using the automatic installer. The install says it is complete however when I try to start up the game I get this crash report:

I had the same problem, then I tried the manual installer. Windows and 7-Zip give me a compression method error when trying to extract the bav.class. Maybe I have a corrupted file?

Something did change in whatever gets downloaded/extracted and packed up. I'm seeing the same issue.

Probably was a corrupted file. Something's apparently wrong with the FTP connections I send the files over. Transferred it over TeamViewer this time, so try again, problem should be fixed. If this happens again, I'm gonna go over to the hosting machine myself and plug in a USB drive with the zip on it and demand it be transferred to the server.

Glad to know it works! I should possibly remove the whole installer thing. It's very buggy as it is, and can't seem to be able to reproduce any of the bugs..

However, he now games online on a variety of Minecraft servers, and I use the chatlog to check where he's been, who he's been chatting to and what he has said. That may sound a little Orwellian, but I have made it clear to him that - rather than hanging over his shoulder while he games online - I WILL check the chatlogs once a week or so. And if I find anything inappropriate (swearing [by him] or inappropriate conversations [being chatted up by online "females" who might turn out to be predatory men], I will take action (tempban him, blacklist that server, report users to server mods if I have concerns). So he knows that I will know everything he says online - seems to work!
I have to report that neither Chatlog for 1.7.2 or 1.7.4 have worked with the auto-installer. They install the mod into a new profile OK, and I get to the launcher screen and select the chatllog profile. But when I launch it, the launcher screen flickers but does not disappear to the Mojang splashscreen. Downloading the vanilla file and manually installing it into a new profile works perfectly, however.

I see your concerns about playing online. It's good you're on guard to protect your son, and to make sure he behaves properly when online! It could mean the difference between a lot
As for the installer... I'm aware it's broken, and it needs fixing. I'm considering removing the installer altogether and instead just distribute class files. Something is wrong, but I can't figure out exactly what is causing it. Thanks for reporting, though.

This mod is great but when i use it I crash ~1 minute after login, any ideas? I am using it with forge on 1.7.2

I am actually not much of a Minecraft player myself, but I am the parent of a 9-yr-old boy who is absolutely nuts about it. No surprise there, and I heartily approve. However, he now games online on a variety of Minecraft servers, and I use the chatlog to check where he's been, who he's been chatting to and what he has said. That may sound a little Orwellian, but I have made it clear to him that - rather than hanging over his shoulder while he games online - I WILL check the chatlogs once a week or so. And if I find anything inappropriate (swearing [by him] or inappropriate conversations [being chatted up by online "females" who might turn out to be predatory men], I will take action (tempban him, blacklist that server, report users to server mods if I have concerns). So he knows that I will know everything he says online - seems to work!
I have to report that neither Chatlog for 1.7.2 or 1.7.4 have worked with the auto-installer. They install the mod into a new profile OK, and I get to the launcher screen and select the chatllog profile. But when I launch it, the launcher screen flickers but does not disappear to the Mojang splashscreen. Downloading the vanilla file and manually installing it into a new profile works perfectly, however.

I see your concerns about playing online. It's good you're on guard to protect your son, and to make sure he behaves properly when online! It could mean the difference between a lot
As for the installer... I'm aware it's broken, and it needs fixing. I'm considering removing the installer altogether and instead just distribute class files. Something is wrong, but I can't figure out exactly what is causing it. Thanks for reporting, though.
