I have no idea why this crash happens. It is not related to ChatLog; most likely it's a bug in Forge. Try to downgrade Forge to an older version, or reinstall if that might have an effect. If it persists in the latest version, see if you can reproduce it in Forge with no mods installed, and if you can, report it to Forge as a bug
Ninja edit: Wait a second, is this running on a server, or is it just installed on your client? If you installed this mod on a server, it will not work, though it should work if you installed it in your game and you are connecting to a server.

Haven't been able to add the new features yet because of snowmen in the code. But 1.8.3 is out, there's that, took me an hour to figure out Mojang's latest trick.

I see no use for this mod as minecraft already does this itself. So why does this mod even exist? Oh and screenshots are named by date so the screenshot you would need should be near the top or the end, depending on if you have a-z or z-a. So you are making money off of a basic minecraft function? Perhaps I should read through some things that you accept when you buy this game.

Minecraft already does, yeah. The reason this mod exists is because I aim to do it in a better way. I keep all logs in a central, easily accessible location, in HTML in order to preserve as much formatting as possible. Minecraft does not store any colors or formatting in any human readable format in the log files. Minecraft's log files are also compressed with gzip, making them harder to access quickly than simply opening an HTML document.
Screenshots are named by date and time, but they're still not searchable, and they're still huge. When I recorded the ChatLog tutorial video, screenshots were still at 300 something kilobytes, though by today, that has increased with the coming of bigger screen resolutions, and more usage of resolutions like 1080p. The logs were still less than 1/30th the size of a screenshot when it was recorded, and the ratio is probably even lower today. Another feature of HTML is that logs can easily be searched, either by Ctrl+F or by doing an operating-system level search in the chatlogs directory. This is impossible with screenshots, since screenshots are pictures and not plain text. All the chat for one day is stored in the same chat log file, making it easy to read through, whereas screenshots are split between each time you hit F2, and you're also likely to miss somethihng. (Say your friend told you some important info, but you missed it and didn't screenshot it.) You could search through the vanilla logs directory too, but only if you're willing to decompress every file you think might be worth to search first. Finally, while you can probably find the file you want manually by looking for the file name; if the message you're looking for was sent a long time ago, you might not be sure which file to open. No one has the memory capacity to remember every single date/time associated with every single message anyway, and even if you remember it, you're likely to forget it quickly, warranting a search.
As for money; I think you should be more concerned about others than me. I'm going to remove the QR anyway, because I have not earned a single cent from donations through it. Neither have I earned a single cent of money through advertising, and not even a single cent through YouTube ads. I have not had anyone donate through Patreon either, and even the free options like referrals for sites I use have only had a few (one or two) clicks through in the entire history the links have been placed there (a long time). Modding isn't something you'd earn money from anyway.
As for why you should be more concerned about others: I do not use AdFly, Curse or Mods.io. These services award money to downloaders. CurseForge, built around modding, gives modders a small share of money based on how many downloads their mods get. The same is true for mods.io. I haven't earned a cent, but others might have earned hundreds or thousands of dollars in ad revenue and donations. ChatLog does not get any donations due to its size. Larger mods and more famous developers have no problem earning large amounts of money monthly through e.g. Patreon.

Hey, thanks for making the mod! I use this on a daily basis to avoid problems with other players and staff on Minecraft servers.
It's a really great mod, although I have one suggestion - Can you make the log location configurable? I'd love to be able to save my logs in Google drive for access on other computers!

Thanks a lot for making this mod!
Thanks for kind words! As of now, there are no options for configuring the directory to store logs in, and I don't plan to add one in the near future. However, there is a simple workaround you can use to make ChatLog save files in your Google Drive folder instead. I'm going to assume you're a Windows user for these instructions. (If you're not, I can possibly make some instructions for Mac/Linux.)
Move (don't copy) the chatlogs folder to your Google Drive folder. Rename it if you wish.
Open a command prompt (Windows key+R, enter 'cmd' and press Enter)
Copy this code (substitute 'chatlogs' in at the end of the command for whatever name you chose in step 1; and if your Google Drive is not in the default location, change the second path to wherever Google Drive is located):
Right click the command prompt and select Paste. Hit Enter to run the command. A new folder will be created with a shortcut icon in .minecraft labeled 'chatlogs'. Open this folder to verify that the logs are there. Everything will be automatically be saved to Google Drive now; the .minecraft folder is just a link to Google Drive.

Any 1.9 planned support? I don't know what Meddle is and I feel not using another such modloader again... I'm still using Liteloader (In magiclauncher I added ChatLog in the mod list)... Cannot switch to 1.9 :/ at this time
I see there's no updates on the post so gotta wait until before moving to 1.9

MagicLauncher is the best launcher I ever used! Hoping the developer would update for 1.13.x and 1.14.x
Hi there! ChatLog for LiteLoader is discontinued due to low popularity, but I've made sure to update ChatLog for Forge to 1.9, so you can grab it with the links on the main post. Regarding Meddle - it's a modding system that interacts with Minecraft on a much lower level than Forge. What this means is that it's harder to write mods for it, but as a trade off, it allows for extremely quick and easy updating. That's why I've been able to push ChatLog updates for snapshots - I've got a bot that writes the code for me, something I could only dream about with Forge.
Meddle is about as easy to install as Forge. Meddle mods are installed in the exact same way as Forge mods, except you'd put them in a folder called "meddle" instead of a folder called "mods". This is the only difference in installation. If you want to give it a try, you can download the Meddle installer from the Meddle topic. Instructions are available under "Vanilla Launcher (Beta installer method)". There are very few Meddle mods around, but it's nice to use for snapshots, or while you're waiting for Forge.

Well for the liteloader part, thats okay, I've used Magic Launcher so it will work while LiteLoader running. I've had issues with Forge due to loading/intensive CPU usage on load so that's why I've chosen LiteLoader.
I've noticed Forge got 1.9 out since Mar 18 (1 day before my Bday^^) so I can give it a try. Early 1.9's builds can be buggy (beta builds) because they can contain bugs... but I'll give a run with it (and finding a minimap mod) because actually Liteloader for 1.9 isn't out yet and no ETA, thus leaving me to wait until I update my server to 1.9... But I don't know if they fixed the CPU load... With my i7 processor it can even go at 100% for like 2-5 seconds or more... thats nosense... thats why I switched to Liteloader but well... Either switching to Forge so I can go with my mods and updating server or else waiting and players being eager to await the server to be 1.9...
I've never used Meddle, so I don't know if theres any such known mods going there (like VoxelMap, or any one that can serve minimaps) etc...
Thanks for your answers
