Welcome to the official page for the Emoticons mod.
I wish I could update this, but as of now I don't really have any plans of doing so.
Latest version: Version 1.2 for Minecraft 1.6.4
This mod adds in a small window in your chat box, which includes a selection of symbols you can add to your chat. There's also a page for color codes, and one for formatting, that only work on Bukkit servers where you have permission to use chat effects. They don't add much more than a reference in case you don't know the codes by heart.
Here, have a preview:
Thanks to NightcrawlerDX for the video

Edited how the mod works in order to be more compatible with other mods, including the
The mod now has 1 class and 1 folder containing 2 classes, instead of 2 classes initially.
v1.1
Added a page system (currently has 4 different pages).
Added 2 pages of symbols, 1 page with chat color shortcuts and 1 page for chat formatting shortcuts.
Added some suggested symbols, like smileys. Not sure if they are as attractive as you hoped for though.
v1.0
Initial Release
Opening the GUI while in a bed will hide the "Leave bed" button.
According to the description of the code I use, it's supposed to add the text at the cursor, but doesn't seem to do it. Only adds at the end of the text line. Trying to change that.
If you find any, please submit them to me.
This mod is incompatible with most mods that edit the GuiChat class.
Currently incompatible with: I don't even know lol.
Works strange with: TabbyChatTo fix Macro, open "macros.txt" and set "chatgui.enable=0"
Now, what I want to add further into the mod, is maybe a better system of how the symbols are imported. I'll definitely add more pages now that I have it running, but not sure what to add to further ones. I could add more symbols, but I've looked through the whole Uni-Code Library and I've already covered the most interesting ones that work. But feel free to suggest things for me to add
ReiFNSK and Marik for letting me use their button class!
RocketMan10404 for helping me make the mod more compatible with TabbyChat, and also teaching me a few tricks.
Other Boring Stuff:
- I just want to remind you that this is the ONLY official topic for this mod. If you download it elsewhere, I can not guarantee that it will be safe. You'll likely find threads of this mod elsewhere on the whacky and wonderful world of the interwebs, but remember; the most recent updates will always be on THIS thread.
- I am not responsible for what you do with this mod, I merely provide you access to use it. What you use it for is completely up to you, however I appreciate it if you use it respectively. Please do not use it to harass people, spam, scam or other activities that others may find abusive. You are also free to create commercially-used media featuring this mod, as long as you credit me as the creator. Just use common sense and you should be good to go.
-If you'd like to include this mod in a modpack, again just use common sense and feel free to do so as long as you properly credit me as the creator. If you want, you can pm me a link to your modpack, and I might check it out!
- As for the legal stuff, I claim a minority of the code within the GuiChat class as my own. Most of it belongs to Mojang, and should be treated as such. I do not claim the GuiSimpleButton class as my own, as it belongs to ReiFNSK. The rest I do claim as my property, and thus you are not allowed to redistribute my mod under your name as the creator (basically stealing, which is obviously mean )
Thank you for your attention and support.

Wow this is a pretty cool mod and just so u know for installation on a mac you don't have to compress the folder into a jar again you can just rename the folder to minecraft.jar.

Yes I used that method before for installation, but nowadays I just compress it. Makes it easier if I want to send it to my PC friends
Btw, link fixed. Awkward little mistake there. Completely different file, hehe.
definitely an awesome mod, but are there seriously no smileys?
An interesting feature would be (well, before i get ahead of myself -- you need to add smileys) that if you type or :-) it automatically changes into a smiley face. I dont know how hard that would be, but it would definitely be interesting.

Well I wanted to add smileys, but I decided not to, at least right now, because they were very small. I can add it though, in the future.
As for your other suggestion, I might be able to find out how to do that. I have a lot of school to not pay attention to, so I'll try xP

Yeah that was the idea to start with. I noticed, in 1.2.5 I think, that you could paste in any symbol if you copied it from like a browser, so I wanted to make a mod that makes it easier. But back then I wasn't nearly experienced enough to do it.
Well, this sucks... This mod doesn't work with the TabbyChat mod because the both use the asw.class file. D: I was hoping they would because then I can have my chats nicely sorted while being able to do neat symbols and such... D:

XD Very Awesome mod you have there.
I'll probably add more symbols later on, but I just picked out some I thought were neat.

Didn't expect it to be this much praised.
I don't think it has a public open source at the moment, but you can always ask the mod creator for it. ^-^ And think you for trying to fix it. ^w^
Edit:
Also, next update, can you add the Zodiac Symbols ( ♈ ♉ ♊ ♋ ♌ ♍ ♎ ♏ ♐ ♑ ♒ ♓ ), the ballot boxes ( ☐ ☑ ☒ ), the Planet Signs ( ☽ ☾ ☿ ♀ ♁ ♂ ♃ ♄ ♅ ♆ ♇ ), and finally, the Skull & Crossbones ( ☠ ).
