Eh, nothing in normal Minecraft can be placed higher than y = 255, it is simply not possible, because the block storage arrays won't go higher.
And I believe manually placing blocks is only possible up to y = 254 (I might be wrong about that), so maybe water can be placed at y = 255 is what he meant(?)
Do note that if you are standing ON the block that is at 254 then the F3 screen will show your feet at y = 255, which is the top face of that block. So the block's position is its bottom corner in the negative x and z directions. In 1.8+ the F3 screen also includes the "looking at block" information for easier verification.
I know there are or used to be some mods that change the terrain to be infinite vertically, but I think supporting those for minimaps would be either impossible or at least incredibly problematic. How would you take a projection from above if the map can continue infinitely upwards?
for the option button to work you will probably need to delete the old option file and let the game create a new one, i did alot of changes that are not backward compatible
Splendid update you've distributed there. 2.2.5 seems to have fixed the sun/star/sky rendering issues. I'm also liking the new options menu that actually saves settings (the old official one never seemed to). A few of the other bugs mentioned recently (odd block textures appearing in maps) also appears to be resolved, and I've noticed the map view on the whole producing much more accurate/reliable images.
Thank you for that update.
There appears to be a different bug or two: (sorry to be a pain)
f you join a server, disconnect, then join a different one, the waypoints from the 1st server you were playing on are used. Restarting Minecraft fixes this.
I've also done some redraws of various areas. The redraw appears to be fine for the current and further out zoom levels, but if you zoom in it's common to get large undrawn chunks.
Edit: It looks like redrawn chunks don't get written to disk. They appeared fine at first, but after reconnecting those chunks are black again.
If there is time for some low priority stuffs in the future I would like to refer to a post I made some time ago. (super low priority though)
Bug: Minimap position setting saves as unchanged if you set it to top right.Fixed
Bug: Background mode setting saves as static if you set it to panning (re-join a world/server then open the full screen map to see this).Fixed
Bug: The large map render is drawn on top of the items in your inventory bar. This still happens on 2.2.5
Request: Could markers be displayed in first person? Rei/Voxel shows a coloured diamond with a configurable label (none, name only, and name + distance), obviously make it optional.
Request: A marker list editor would be very helpful, being able to edit markers including their name, position, group, and colour in one form (rather than a series of individual input boxes) -- similar to Rei/Voxel.
Request: Remember the zoom level last used in the full screen map.
Thanks again for your work on the updates you've given us.
i read some where in the eula that you cant put copy's of a mod on curse.
and as the owner never officialy handed over the mod to any 1. we cant edit the excisting thread.

could u give me a screenshot of what you mean by this?
i will keep the requests in mind when i start adding new features to the mod. atm we are only maintaining it.
Here's two screen shots. The first shows the issue not happening because the map angle is parallel with the screen/UI. The second shows the map square overlapping into the inventory at the bottom of the screen as the angle causes it to cut across.

latest version of mapwriter for 1.8: MapWriter-1.8-2.2.5.jar
fixes: - rendering bugs (tested for black sun with optifine, probably fixed some other to)
- Chaning minimap position. removed the 4 margin values and just inserted some fixed positions for the corners.
- settings changed from ingame should be used imidiatly instead of after restart
So with just the new 1.7.10 version of Mapwriter and Jewelry Craft 2, I get this crash on world generation:
http://pastebin.com/qtnJTCA5
~Solar_Tiger
Any chance this can be fixed? I know the 1.7.10 versions don't have this problem.
Also I am unable to click the options button ingame to change settings...?

Is there any chance that the 1.7.10 and 1.8 versions will be available on curse?
I have no idea how I ever played Vanilla.

Apparently when ever I join again my map is clear and my waypoints are gone. Does anyone know why?

what version of mapwriter?
what minecraft version?
what other mods are you using?
i have no idea why it happens, but i will try and reproduce your bug and see if i can fix it.
For the people that are interested i made a Curse page for the updated version of mapwriter 1.8
link: http://www.curse.com/mc-mods/minecraft/231387-mapwriter-2
i think something is going wrong with your minecraft setup.
i installed the mods you listed and could not reproduce your problem.
does this still happen?
the problem is in JC2. and looking at their gith it should be fixed.
i uploaded my 1.7.10 version to curse.
the version wont get any new features. i will still fix bugs for it.
