To run OptiFine with Shaders, turn off these options:
- Antialiasing -> OFF
- Anisotropic Filtering -> OFF
- Natural Textures -> OFF
- Fast Render -> OFF (this causes the broken text and OpenGL warnings in the console)
OptiFine 1.8 HD Ultra D5 should work with ShadersMod_v2.4.12 and Forge #1486.
Tested with Sildurs Vibrant Shaders.
Thanks for your help, sp614x!
Any reason why (what changed) Fast Render has broken between Optifine and ShadersMod?
Can you look at the ShadersMod Source Code (which is available) and point Karyonix in the right direction -- seeing as MCP does not complete its decompilation and deobfuscation process if optifine is merged with the 1.8.jar.
As for the bugs with the new Mipmapping process, they can be fixed by simply correcting the textures, and making them proportionate squares :).

The option FastRender in D3 is disabling some rendering features which are required for the shaders. There is no way to fix it except turning FastRender OFF. I may add a check if the shaders are installed and automatically disable all conflicting options (AA/AF/FastRender).
Thanks again!
I noticed the hotbar goes transparent when you turn Graphics to Fast instead of Fancy in 'Options' > 'Video Settings'. So putting it to "Fancy" will fix that problem.
The tooltips thing then has to be caused by something else, from my side, because it still occurs. Could the color profile (in color management) have anything to do with this? I've had problems with it recently, even after resetting it to the default.
I reproduced the problem - when the player has enchanted armor and is in the inventory screen the blocks/tooltips render too bright. Also the enchanted effect on the armor and on the held item is not rendered in third person view.
The problem also appears with only Forge + Shaders and with only Shaders installed.
It is a Shaders mod bug, not related to Forge or OptiFine.

Ahh, ok, that makes complete sense now. So, this bug isn't even 'fixable' from within ShadersMod.
I suppose, if you are running shaders, there isn't much point in offloading to your CPU -- you should already have a good enough GPU if you want to run Shaders regardless...
Thx for the heads up, and the explanation -- much appreciated!
While you can only run this with the D2 version of optifine, if you turn on antialiasing, you will no longer be able to play, the same things that happen with other versions happen. If you DO turn on antialiasing, you have to turn it off via the optionsof.txt in your .minecraft directory. Or just delete the file.
I experimented with a few settings because I never get more than 60 fps when using a high shader and I noticed a few things:
1.) If I set smooth fps on in optifine the graphic card load goes from 100% down to 70% and stays there but the fps go down by ten to 15 (around 45 fps). If set to off I get around 60 fps with nearly 100% GPU usage but the fps drop sometimes causing lag.
2.) Also I noticed every option minecraft and optifine provide (with the exception of the fps limit) don't even change my fps, so the high GPU load is only the shaders. My CPU load doesn't reach 50% most of the time and I do have like 3gb RAM free and minecraft doesn't even use all that it has (3gb).
3.) When I start another game at the same time (tested with League of Legends) the fps of minecraft got UP to 80 fps while I had a small fps drop in LoL but still got over 200 fps there.
Why am I posting all this here? Well, I do have a GTX 970 and it just shouldn't get only 45 fps if I use a high shader. Even on the site of the shader is written it gets around 70-90 fps with an older (GTX 770) GPU. All these things tell me that minecraft doesn't seem to use the GPU as good as it could, especially point 3 is something that irritates me. I'm not sure if this is something to do with the shaders mod at all but I thought here is the best chance that people know how those things came to be and maybe a way to get better performance while using shaders.
I hope someone knows why this is happening and maybe a way to fix it.

PS: I also wanted to remind that I posted about a glitch a few pages back which was lost in the discovery that optifine D5 works.

Could you say what framerate you get while normally playing Minecraft with shaders off? (I want to test 3 also, but want to make sure.)
Around 150 if I set the shader to none, 100 with setting it to internal. I didn't remove the shaders mod since the mod itself shouldn't make a difference to fps if the CPU and RAM aren't overworked.
You must be new. The first post of the thread is often the main means of communication and instructions from a Mod author. Karyonix is usually really good about it. It's near the top of his post in bold. He also added a website recently.

Is there any way to tedt the 3rd option without LOL?
I haven't tried with anything else. I just left minecraft open a few times when starting a game so the XP-Farm produces more skeletons and I checked when LoL was loading. I would guess any other game that uses the GPU should work.
I saw your fix for Connected Textures, the same fix can be used to fix Natural Textures.
Turning off fast render in optifine on a computer with the following specs causes a black screen any time an entity is moused over with or without shadersmod installed:
- Catalyst 15.7 (and previous release version which was 14.12)

does it work?
The Shaders Mod works fine on 1.7.10 (Forge or non - forge), 1.8 has some really insane glitches.
I'm back
- Options: http://pastebin.com/ZKh6Pbfp
- Forge #1486
- OptiFine_1.8_HD_U_D5
- ShadersMod_v2.4.12mc1.8
- Sildurs Vibrant Shaders v1.08 Lite
- GPU Intel HD 2500
The item tooltips are fine.
The only visible problem is that the hotbar borders turn transparent when some items are selected (full 3d blocks).

Just a heads up.
The mipmaps can be fixed by making the textures square power of 2 (as they should be).
Thank you for finding the problem.
I think it is possible to force disable fast render when ShadersMod run. That will be in next version.
