This may help people using the newer AMD drivers with lots of graphics issues
ULPS quite literally stands for Ultra-Low Power State. Think of it as a stand-by state for your graphics card(s). The idea is that when your displays are ordered into stand-by mode by the OS, the graphics card does the same and powers down everything that may be necessary to actually put a picture on the screen (presumably in conjunction with lowering its clocks). It also appears to affect secondary cards in Crossfire setups, turning them "off" when they're not in use.
Ideally it shouldn't have any effect at all when that's not happening, but various reports exist which say that disabling it has a positive effect. If you don't use stand-by features (like myself) than there's no harm at all in disabling it. No harm disabling it otherwise, either - just be aware that the card could be drawing 10w+ (depending on model, clock speeds, voltages, etc) over what it needs to when your system is on but the screens are in stand-by. Crossfire systems will draw that much more per extra card, even with the screens active. http://www.amd.com/us/products/technologies/gcn/Pages/gcn-architecture.aspx
Please avoid doing this if you can though. This will make your graphics card never idle, thus making your rig consume a lot more power, more than likely shortening the lifespan of your PSU.

True , Electricity and PSU ' dont grow on trees . There is a batch file on the overclock site to turn it on and off .AMD is working on fixing the Mega Driver . Some say the new AMD 15.1 beta will fix existing bugs . I was amazed when I rebooted to see that the lag and choppy feel was gone . Best thing is to do is to go over to the Guru3d forum and read up on the topic. Unrestrained I'm getting fps boost and really smooth play in all games
I wanna make sure my post on page 476 was seen, considering the reported error isn't in the bugs list for the 1.8 alpha post, and I don't care to read 400 pages of posts to try to find the point at which it was acknowledged by somebody else.
It is supposed to be fixed in v2.4.5, so it is not in v2.4.5 bug list.
Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude you HAVE to do something about the light settings, this happned last version aswell, the gd'n sun shines through the ground! If i ever build or dig underground, I see the sun shine into it. It's the most annoying thing ever. Pls update so the sun doesn't shine through the ground. Ty.
This is a known issue in 1.8, and is EXTREMELY difficult to fix because of how the graphics engine in MC has been rebuilt.
Karyonix is doing what he can to fix the issue, but to be frank, doing so would be a miracle. He needs to circumvent the 'forced on' Advanced OpenGL in 1.8, and work with the way that chunks are loaded.
MC no longer loads chunks that aren't visible. So, to block light from a source behind you from coming through a block that isn't in your view range (and as such isn't loaded into memory) --- well --- difficult to say the least.
There is an easy way to skip checking for out-of-view chunks. It renders shadow correctly.
But is very slow! Frame rate drops from 60 FPS to 21 FPS, so this easy way is unacceptable.
We need a faster implementation.
Minecraft culling algorithm works well only with 1 view (eye) that can move slowly but it does not like frequent switching between 2 different views (eye and sun).
I will see if I can do something about this problem.
Strange. Many people with a 970 have reported it has been. Interesting.
I don't see the water glitch on GTX 970 but there is still texture loop in SEUS 10.2 preview 1.
Texture loop does not always cause visible glitch but render result is undefined by OpenGL.
This type of glitch is only visible in some circumstance.
We should avoid texture loop and write a well-defined program.

You can't run the culling algorithm twice? From i've read about it it shouldn't affect performance that much. Or does minecraft immediately unload chunks out of view sight and make it difficult to make a separate shadow culling?
Besides this there's another little bug I noticed with the 1.8 alpha, oldlighting is forced on and makes most shaderpacks (espacially mine and derivatives) blocks side look too dark.

I'm using the SEUS shaderpack, the alpha for 1.8, running faithful 32. I understand that it's just an alpha, I'm reporting the issue as feedback rather than complaint. I'm not using optifine or forge.

I am not so sure. The last time I tried decompiling optifine, it failed.
Ask sp614x for his MCP 1.8 and his 1.8.1 config folder is in his forum post link below .He's a great guy ask him for some help . Optifine needs shaders Here is MCP for 1.8.1
URGENT!!!!! Please help! I deploy SUES to my shaderpacks folder & MC crashes! Whenever I do Sildur's shaders, the game lauches, it shows up, and I enter my world. When I do, I enable the Sildur's Shaderpack (any one) and the sky turns black and this shows up in-game:

HELP!!!
My first hunch is you are running an Intel video card with an improper driver version.
Check the OP for Intel Driver recommendations (about 1/2 way down).
If you are running a notebook with nVidia/AMD graphics, you need to add Minecraft.exe / Java.exe / Javaw.exe to the Video Profiles, for AMD you have to set it to High Performance, for nVidia you have to tell it to use the nVidia graphics adapter.
Downloaded 10.2 and the glitch is still present. Could everyone please stop saying I'm using the wrong shader pack? I think we all can read.
Its still there, although for most, its invisible as karyonix mentions:

1. He doesn't have a 1.8.1 version because he is still fixing the impossible work that is 1.8 rendering. If you are using 1.8 you should have noticed that shadows go in and out aswell as sunlight underground. 1.8 is a beast and he is trying his best.
2. There is no forge for 1.8.1.

Question: How would I use this in conjunction with Optifine?
You can't. If you look up at the 2nd post down (2nd comment in that post) on page 478, Karyonix said that he can't decompile Optifine to be able to even start adding compatibility.
Sp614x will need to give some insight, or offer up his source code (at least some of it) before this will happen.
I can't seem to get this to work. I downloaded Forge for 1.7.10, got it running, and placed the shaders in my mods folder, but it doesn't work. It doesn't show up in the shaders menu in-game.

get MCP 9.10pre1 here from Searges twitter https://twitter.com/seargedp/status/517027419103186944
http://t.co/owF0QwfexX
then grab the 1.8.1 config folder from sp614x post here http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/mapping-and-modding/minecraft-mods/1272953-optifine-hd-b2-fps-boost-hd-textures-aa-af-and?comment=44787
http://optifine.net/tmp/mcp_conf_181.zip
put the conf folder into MCP 910pre1 , over wright config files and decompile 1.8.1
now your ready to mod 1.8.1
If you complete any of the mappings just pass it along and anything else declare as public
