To be honest, I'm not sure about iron being in the chest recipe. You really don't need iron to make a chest in real life, it seems to be mostly a visual thing.
Honestly, many of the recipe changes are to make the recipe match the product.
I think it's dumb that wood=chest when the chest made quite CLEARLY have non-wood elements which appear metalic.
What I might do is, make a lockable and unlockable chest.
The lockable chest would require metal, and the unlockable chest would not.
However that's for future works
For now the chest has metal, because the chest block has metal
It also increases the value of the nearly dirt cheap chests...
10 things this mod does 1) Adds Tool tiers for all tools, not just for pickaxes. 2) Blocks now drop component parts. 3) Sticks and rocks are found scattered around the world. 4) Torches now burn out. Light torches with a furnace or a flint&steel. 5) Chests are now freely placed near each other, without autolocking together.
6) Bookshelves are now placed with a direction, drawing book on front and back of the block. 7) Adds hammers, which upon "breaking" a block turn them into another easier to collect block. 8) Adds scythes, currently they do nothing, however I plan on them being use to boost crop output. 9) Adds chisels, right click with a chisel on solid stone or smooth sandstone to make the chiseled blocks 10) Changed MANY crafting recipes, making some blocks cheaper, or look more like what they craft.
10 things planned for the mod 1) Change mob drops to better reflect what the mob is made off "such as mutton and bones" 2) Change mob behavior to better reflect their role, passive mobs being more ski-dish. 3) Change mobs to increase challenge related to each mob. 4) Add biome specific survival tools/tricks. Such as bone&sandstone tools. 5) Add village generation features, such as cities.
6) Add more village generation options, allowing things like swamp villages. 7) Require materials/tools for crafting. 8) Require a furnace to combine metals and add molds for tool parts for on the fly tool creation. 9) Make crafting tables contain the items being crafted, displaying them on the tables top 10) Add more realism/challenge to minecraft
Today I'm working on...
Making wool items which are used instead of wool blocks.
I've also been thinking about making tnt sticks... which the tnt block is crafted out of.
I'm contemplating the tnt sticks recipe.
I think I might make it...
=Blank
=paper
=gunpowder
=string
Then 9 sticks of tnt would make a tnt block.
If I do this change I assure you that I will increase the drop rate for gunpowder.
I figured out a way to get 30 more item icons
It will take about a week to implement, however I'm a little confused about why the heck vanilla minecraft doesn't use this.
Okay, here's what I mean.
The music disks take up the entire bottom row of sprites, which is 16 sprites.
The wool item I added currently takes up 16 sprites.
The wool item could be treated like the blank egg is, and thus 15 sprite slots can be opened up for this mod
The music disk item could use the same coloration thingy on it's center label with a blank disk image behind
This opens up 14 slots from the music disk.
That means about 19 slots will be opened.
This will allow for more ores and block parts to be added.
I'm also thinking about removing the upper decal from leather armor, to add another 4 item slots.
This may annoy some, however the ultimate goal is to add things to minecraft which give substance to the game.
The leather decal takes up 4 slots which could be used for all sorts of goodies.
Cannibalize everything for those needed slots dude...TG
RECLAIMED 17 MORE ICON SLOTS
WITH ANOTHER 33 POSSIBLE IF I CHANGE THE item.png
20 of that 33 comes from changing the weapons to use recolor like eggs and leather.
The other 13 comes from changing the music disks to use 3 images.
I may also shrink down the number of unique dye images, having dyes get their icon from 3-4 images.
So this would shrink down the icons used by another 10+
Since I'm doing this, I figured I should re-organize the ENTIRE item.png sheet,
to leave items better organized.
Doing this, I might as well insert ALL of the item icons I've added in my mod which will only take up a
small portion of the newly available slots.
The mod unfortunately isn't coded correctly for Forge and it really needs to be Forge compliant. There are some great ideas in this mod.
Actually I was looking into using forge a LONG while back.
Sadly I ran into an issue.
Followed the directions to the letter, and updated java when a forum post said that may be the problem.
I could not get it past a single error, and this was without ANY mod material causing problems.
So If you can help me, please feel free to look through the forum history.
However, I'm starting to give up on going for the highest compatibility.
I just want to make the best damn mod I can.
I spent most of the day re-organizing the item.png
I was able to reduce it by combining the items with identical design, and dividing with the color thingy.
I'm skeptical about my idea for tool coloring.
Here's the idea
This includes the added mutton and other new item.
The dyes on the bottom may be combined into 3-4 different "textures" which the colors will be applied to.
hay mani like your mod and i have a idea on how to make the beds cheaper
so sticks are = %
and half wool is = _
and wool is = #
so like this __ __ #
% %
and you make half wool like this % % and that = 4 half wool
so that is my suggestion so i hope it works

I already fixed that
It costs 2 half slabs and 2 cloths (1 cloth is 1/9th of a wool block)
You should consider texture packs, if things are just coded recolors, people can't customize how items look. Can't you just add another sprite sheet?
Also, you should change how you place paintings. Either a different crafting recipe for each painting, or being able to cycle through paintings by right click rather than having to break it and get a random one until you get the right one.
Ever since I ran into the item icon limit i've been obsessing over how I could improve the possible item total minecraft has.
What I've decided to do is, make it so all items with similar icons, but simply differently colored, will share a template icon, which they color.
This means that now, without taking up extra icon slots, you can add hundreds/thousands of armors/tools/records/dyes/ingots.... I want to apply this tool to as many items as possible.
In order to maintain certain bits of graphical detail, I've given some icon templates 2 layers, 1 for the colored element and 1 for the uncolored bits.
That allows for armor/tools to have shine and other details if desired.
Since this changes the base icon index, texture packs will need to be custom fitted, which is something I may try my hands at
Well then I could make another mod showcase for this huge update. You could leave the old mod showcase and add the new update, because you won't probably change a lot of the existing things.
Sounds good
They 2 key points of this update are...
Mob mods&Item sprite sheet rework [expanding the possible number of items by huge amounts.]
I'll make sure you send you a message once I release this update.
