I've been using this mod now for about four days, and already it's proved invaluable. With Mystcraft, on a server, me and a friend made a safehouse at least 30x5x30, and I pulled off the ceiling faster than he could make the walls thanks to BuildRegion.
I've also found it useful for farming, (make sure I only punch holes where I intend,) changing out floor/wall/ceiling material, and likely more things I just can't think of at the moment, because it's second nature by now.
The only small complaint I have is the Ctrl+LMB/ Ctrl+RMB keys can't be remapped inside the mod. I have Optifine installed, and it causes me to zoom in whenever I try and set or remove the field. I'd prefer Shift as a modifier, myself, but the best thing would be if it was modifiable.
Thanks for the mod, though! It's going in my "Always Install" list, right up there with NEI.

Good point, I'll add this to the list of planned features. It will require a bit more work to implement than a regular keybind; vanilla Minecraft doesn't really take modifier keys into account.
Haven't downloaded and played with it yet, but do you have plans for spheres and cylinders (if not already supported)?
Another thought:
Another poster mentioned Mystcraft, and I have a standard "safe house" I build for Mystcraft. Any possibility of saving it as a template?
Apparently I'm a complete and utter jerk and come to this forum just like to make fun of people, be confrontational, and make your personal life miserable. If you think this is the case, JUST REPORT ME. Otherwise you're just going to get reported when you reply to my posts and point it out, because odds are, I was trying to be nice.
Spheres and cylinders are actually pretty much complete... I just need to polish a few rough edges in the code and do some speed optimizations to mitigate the lag that you'll see if you make huge curved shapes (like a 1000-block radius sphere).
I hope to release spheres and cylinders in the next BuildRegion release, coinciding with Minecraft 1.4.6 this month.
Saving a region as a template (aka schematic) is also an eventual planned feature.

I've been having a look at other mods like this one, and while my framerate takes a slight hit, I can tell you this mod and Schematica work well together for exactly that purpose.

Awesome.

i hope this amasome mod is not dead(were are you bencvt?)
becuase this looks great and with the upcoming spheres i will defanitly give this a download, one question smp? does smp work with this? does the server need the mod? does it even work for smp? is it only for sp?
I really enjoyed using this in conjunction with WorldEdit to quickly create and then hand-edit floors/walls/etc. It's also great as a straight-edge and/or guide when you need to make lots of long-distance selections.
Hello post followers. bencvt hasn't been here for a while and i know many people like his mod here, and so do I which is why if anyone asks, i will release an unofficial 1.5(.1etc) update for his mod. I don't own the mod/code and I have no idea where ben is, i just want to at least let people that love using his mod to be able to use it even in his absence. I will not post a download unless somebody asks me to. ps. The download will be basically the same as the 1.4.5 version, with some compatibility changes for 1.5(+). A simple "please post the download, thank you" is all im asking. Remember this is still bencvt's mod and let's all hope he returns soon!

Please, please post the download. I hope he returns soon, but until then I'm really wishing I had this capability in 1.5.1.

Some extra things I didn't bother with like the fml info stuff.
It should work but something might bug out...it works for me though.
If you open the gui and the text is masked with dirt texture close and reopen the gui and it should be right.

Tip to users: if you enjoy the mod but don't like the hud message(s) appearing on your screen, then go into the zip file to com/bencvt/minecraft/buildregion/lang/en_US.properties(or en_PT), copy the file to your desktop and open it. Scroll down to where it says a bunch of hud.xxxxx=words and delete everything after the equals sign for:
Save the file and put it back into the zip overwriting whats there.
There! now buildregion works great and you don't get spam if you use cheaty fast placing mods like me

Sorry for the bump, but this mod was amazingly useful, and I'd be extremely greatful to anyone that could update this mod to 1.7.10 and 1.8, or if someone were to link to a continuation or similar mod I don't know of.
This is extremely helpful for me as I'm good at reading instructions but not good at remembering them!
This makes it so I remember.
Very nice mod +1

Awesome.
I am TOTALLY looking forward to the addition of spheres, cylinders, etc! Thanks!
Because then it would be extremely useful for me when placing slabs.
If not, please consider this a feature request.

Still checking regularly in hopes of updates! =)

Here is the unofficial download for MC 1.5.1,still requires modloader/fml:

LibShapeDraw and BuildRegion are packaged together, just place into mods folder and your set.
