Iromzy made a spotlight! Start from 4:50 if you want to see something you might not have known yet!
A nice video with stuff from v1.6 (A bit outdated )
The colored Gems can be only found naturally, up to 25 blocks above the Bedrock layer.
Pyrite is generated up to 50 block above Bedrock, Black Diamonds will only spawn in the nether, 20 blocks above (the lower) Bedrock layer.
The gems as Items
The Ruby Toolset
All storage blocks
Diamond creation process (works in the overworld too )
Pyrite blocks are crafted like this:
All other storage blocks use the 3x3 recipe:
Pyrite tools are crafted from pyrite blocks and sticks:
There is no armor made of pyrite
With this shaped recipe you can craft diamond sticks:
Diamond sticks are used in black diamond tool recipes replacing wooden sticks:
This are the crafting recipes for black diamond armor:
With IndustrialCraft 2 + GregTech installed:
You can macerate Amethyst and Topaz gems.
Topaz Dust can be electrolyzed into Aluminium Dust, Air Cells, Hydrogen Cells and Silicon Cells
Amethyst Dust can be electrolyzed into Air Cells and Silicon Cells.
My other Gems use their respective GregTech counterparts' recipes. You can nerf the the amount of gems generated if you want by editing the config entries.
You can craft tools from all gems.
Topaz: 550 uses
Amethyst: 600 uses
Sapphire: 650 uses
Emerald: 700 uses
Ruby: 750 uses
Pyrite: 100 uses at Gold speed
Black Diamond: 2125 uses at Ruby speed
You can craft armor from all gems except pyrite.
What you need if you find ores:
Ore breaking rules
Using Black Diamond altars to transmute Gold, Diamonds and Black Diamond:
Black Diamond blocks can be lit (don't worry, they won't get destroyed)
Lit BD blocks are material enchanters. You can enchant 2 Gold ingots into 1 Diamond, but 6 hearts will be taken as tribute. This also works with 2 Diamonds, they can be enchanted into 1 Black Diamond, but you have to give 8 hearts to the altar.
Special BD abilities
Currently some tools have special abilities. Black Diamond swords can set mobs on fire when it is rightclicked on that mob. Black Diamond Pickaxes, Shovels and Axes can auto-smelt blocks with a rightclick on that block. Currently supported are Stone, Cobblestone, Iron Ore, Gold Ore, all 4 types of Log, Sand and Clay. Keep in mind you need the tool that fits best to use auto-smelt (like you cant smelt a piece of sand when using an Axe)
The Mod itself is compiled using srg names, so it might be compatible with future versions of Minecraft.
I've made a special 1.4.7 version with all integration plugins enabled, which also features RedPower integration! You can use my gems for Sickles and Saws. Download
Don't stop reading! In case you want to switch between mine and Redpowers gems, craft an Exchanger! (4 obsidian in the corners, 1 ruby in the middle, 4 gold in the spare slots). It exchanges Rubies or Sapphires when rightclicked.
If you don't want RedPower's Rubies or Sapphires generated, make sure to also download this mod. It needs to be placed in your coremods folder as it overwrites Redpower stuff.

Client: To play with GemsCraft, you have to do this:
BACK UP YOUR MINECRAFT JAR! For all Forge newbies: install OptiFine AFTER Forge!
Install Forge into your minecraft.jar. Just put the GemsCraft-XX.zip in the folder called mods. (if "mods" doesn't exist, create it inside the .minecraft directory!) Delete the folder called META-INF!
It is always recommended to delete your old config files. Server: Create you own server with this mod!
Use the original minecraft_server.jar (http://minecraft.net/download). Install Forge. Put GemsCraft-XX.zip into the mods folder. Delete the "world" folder if there exists one. Don't delete the META-INF folder!!! Bukkit:(currently for 1.4.7) For use on a bukkit server
Get MCPC (Link above). Put GemsCraft-XX.zip into the mods folder. Delete "world". Create a new Batch file with "java -jar <file name here>.jar nogui" to start the server.
If you want to edit the ID's (not recommended for MP usage), you can find the config at /config/gemscraft.cfg
If you play with custom ID's, you should ask server admins for their configs / send them yours.
First, I don't mind if you include my mod in your pack. The only thing you have to do is providing a link to this topic, and you're fine. It would be nice if you sent me a link to your pack. I think every modder who disallows his mod in a pack sucks. If you don't agree with my opinion it's not my problem.

You are only allowed to decompile, modify, share, or rehost my mod as long as you aren't making money with it. You also have to provide a link to this page. (You may make money with it, but you need my explicit written permission for that)
I may or may not play GT. I also might be playing it with TiC. Some Metallurgy and ExtraTiC could be in the mix too. I might have also dropped in some TE as well. Some AE and BC could possibly be on the list. And I maybe- just maybe - there's NEI to assist in short-term memory loss that I may or may not have.
