It is as I had feared. Due to the massive code re-factoring in Minecraft 1.7, I no longer actually have the knowledge to update the Music Timer Mod, or do anything much with it. In addition to this inability to update, after playing Minecraft for a bit (I really don't play so much anymore), I have decided that the amount of new music and the reduction in the delay between Minecraft playing different tracks means that there isn't really a need for the Music Timer Mod anymore.
I originally created this mod back in January 2012 because I felt that Minecraft's music, while pretty awesome, just didn't play often enough. Since I don't have the inclination to update anymore, and since that problem is now fixed, it's time I closed down this thread.
To everyone who ever downloaded and enjoyed my mod - thanks! You're why I kept updating for two and a bit years.
Okay, overly-sentimental closing statement thing over. 2,397 downloads. Anyone who wants to know just what I was doing here, shoot me a PM.
This mod changes the delay between Minecraft's music playing from 12,000 ticks (600 seconds; ten minutes) to 2,400 ticks (120 seconds; two minutes).
So your music will play five times as often! This only includes the natural background music Minecraft itself plays, and not ambience, Music Discs or the like.

Installation instructions:
Or: How to install the Music Timer Mod in ten easy steps!
1. Open the ".minecraft" folder. It is found in %APPDATA%/.minecraft - just open Run from the start menu and type that in. (If Minecraft is installed somewhere else for you, like C:/Minecraft; obviously go there - if you don't know where it's installed, the odds are that it's in AppData.)
2. In here, open the "versions" folder. Copy the "1.6.4" folder, then paste it again (creating a duplicate) - rename it to "MusicTimerMod". (You can name it something else, but I'll assume you named it that.)
3. Open this new folder, and rename both files - to MusicTimerMod.jar, and MusicTimerMod.json (or whatever you named the folder - it is important that they are identical!)
4. Open the .json file you just renamed (MusicTimerMod.json) using Notepad. It'll look mostly like this:
And then some more stuff you needn't worry about.
Find the line, at start, that says "1.6.4", and change it to say "MusicTimerMod". Remember, if your folder, .jar file and .json file are not named MusicTimerMod, you instead have to put in whatever you renamed them to.
5. Open the .jar file you just renamed (MusicTimerMod.jar) - not using Java but using WinRar or 7-zip.
6. Once it opens, delete META-INF (the folder) within. This is essential.
7. Open the .zip file you downloaded (MusicTimerMod_164.zip). Find the .class file within, and drag it into the MusicTimerMod.jar folder.
8. Close the folders, start up the Minecraft Launcher, and select the "New Profile" button (at the side, near the top.) Or, right-click when in the Profile Editor tab, and select "Add Profile".
9. A box will pop up; at the dropdown menu labelled "Use version:", select the version called "release MusicTimerMod" (or "release YourNameHere", etc.) Then rename the profile to anything you want (or don't bother).
10. Click the "Save Profile" button, then select you new profile from the drop-down menu at the side of the launcher, and finally, click Play!
Now these instructions are for Windows (7, specifically) so I can't give you advice for other operating systems - sorry about that. The instructions are also only for installing mods in 1.6 and above.
Troubleshooting:
Q: "Minecraft started with a black screen!!1!"
A: Go look at step 6 in the installation instructions again. Make sure you've actually followed it. Other than that, try un-installing the mod (delete the folder you created in .minecraft/versions) and re-install it, following the steps above more carefully.
Q: "What is this mod compatible with?"
A: It's likely to be incompatible with any other mod that changes SoundManager.class. Notably, it is not compatible with Risugami's or Forge's AudioMod. (There may be a compatible version upcoming in the future.)
Other than that, should work with any other mod.
Q: "I can't figure out how to install the mod@@@"
A: If my explanation doesn't work for you, you can search YouTube for a guide to installing mods, which may explain it better. I'm not going to embed one in this post, though.
If you've got problems, post here, or PM me. If you could include a crash report - assuming that happened - that'd be brilliant. The more details you give, the better I can help.
To-do list:
--Make ModLoader compatible
--Or make Forge compatible
--Make an external (to Minecraft itself) config file with which to change the delay.
--Or add a setting in-game
Support my mod:
No, I'm not asking for money.
I do have a support banner though, feel free to put it in your signature:
Note that all versions are unsupported - as in I won't help you troubleshoot them. And the current install instructions do not apply to any version of Minecraft before 1.6.
If you download this mod, please leave a comment! It helps a lot.
Nice :smile.gif: Finally i might actually get to hear the difference between the different ones -.- At first i thought it was just one :biggrin.gif: Then i learned about C418 :wink.gif: + + (+1)
Awesome! Do you think you could add support for playing ANY music file that the user places into the directory it is read? Perhaps to include much of the missing songs from the soundtrack.

No, not really. As I have said, I'm rather inexperienced with Java. Thanks for the suggestion though.
Now that I think about it, go look at Risugami's AudioMod since I think that adds support for this (coupled with other mods, of course.)
In other news, I am working on adding a GUI to the inventory screen that displays what the delay is currently set to. It won't be dynamic because that value itself isn't dynamic, so there's no need really. As a side effect, this will hopefully add ModLoader compatibility! This is important because ModLoader is an excellent tool and I fully believe all mods should utilise it, so mine should also. Look for updates soon.
EDIT: Okay this is complicated. I've got all the code I need in, I think, yet nothing happens (and it crashes at a defined point =P). But I will keep trying, maybe I'll get an update over the weekend.
OOO Yummy. May I ask for 7 minutes? 10 is too long, 2 is too short.
I'm working on making a configuration file that will allow you to set the time manually, though the default will still be two minutes. Until then, no, I can't go making a custom delay for everyone who comes here, sorry! It would be too much work. You'll just have to cross your fingers that I can work something out =P
EDIT: You know that GUI I was working on? Well, I've made some progress - it shows up now, but it also crashes the game. I need to stop that from happening. =/

I just wanted to post to say - I've recently passed 100 downloads of this mod! Unfortunately, I don't have any extra features to show for it, but not for lack of trying. Maybe if I knew Java code. The problem is in getting the code to use the config file...
Anyway, I'll try to get an update up soon, but exams are coming up so I won't be able to put as much time into this for the next week - but please continue to try the mod!
(I'm fairly sure this isn't rule-breaking - it's not spam)
Wow, dude this is just what I was thinking Minecraft needs;more music! please tell me you plan on updating this for 1.2 I dont think I could bear it if you didn't lol after just learning about this when the update has come (yes I know you can backdate). Anyways, thanks!
Awesome mod! still using it, just making sure you know people aren't forgetting this!
Just before I update, I always get posts in the thread =P I'm sorry it's been taking so long, have had a loooong week. I've just updated to 1.2.4, so I'll put that up here, then I'll update to 1.2.5 (jeez, that was fast!) because I hadn't noticed I could until just now. Anyway, here you go, 1.2.4 1.2.5(see below): http://www.mediafire...pm7tkbhtckhlt4e
No. The class file is renamed, so it wouldn't work.

Didn't mean to sound like I was hankering for updates 24/7, just wanted you to know people care about this even though it's not big or anything, you know? lol

Nah, it's cool. I'm glad someone cares about this mod! =P I appreciate the posts anyway - I need the traffic.
Good Idea But i have a request: We should be able to add our own music to the playlist!
That is not the function of this mod. As far as I know, Risugami's AudioMod adds support for that sort of thing, and there are other mods out there which use it. You'll have to find one of those. Also, I believe I answered this question earlier... Yeah, I did.
(Protip: google it, this forums's search isn't great)
why remove an old download (1.2.4) everyone hates minecraft updates cus they always come in your way, i think that even if minecraft updates to 1.2.5 alot of ppl are gonna use the 1.2.4 version...
