Been seeing this mod around the place and fell in love with it even before I was able to use it. I tried it on my old computer even though there was no way it could run it smoothly and it looked amazing regardless. Recently, I built my own computer and looking forward to trying this out without any FPS problems. It works super smoothly, however even using the old version of the minecraft.jar I modded with this that I tested and looked great on my old, bad computer, I get these visual errors on both the 1.1 version and the latest version. Apologies in advance if this has been addressed, but searching this thread using the search tool hasn't helped me, or I'm wording my search keywords badly, and there's no way I'm going through all the pages manually hoping to spot the same problem:
Additional issues that are probably related to this:
-Character is completely black, sometimes just head, just body, or the whole character.
-If for some reason the character is not completely black, it is shown incorrectly (Edit: This is actually seen in the second screenshot of the quoted post below my post)
So i installed this mod along with optifine Smooth and this is what i get when i open a world:
I'm pretty sure i installed everything right. Does anyone know what is going on or experiencing the same issue?
I have a Macbook Late 2008 Edition with Aluminum Unibody.
The specs are : 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 RAM, Nvidia Geforce 9400M
Okay, fixed my previous problem...now I'm stuck here too. Any suggestions?
Hey sonicether, I have really been enjoying your epic shader pack, but theres one thing that has really bothered me that no one else seems to be pointing out. Torches dont really give off any visible light, they should give off an orange light kinda like the sun instead of raising the light level of the room but leaving the room that dark unlit feeling. This really makes underground bases and stuff undesirable. Any way this can be fixed? Anyway thanks for the epic shaders.
What I did to fix this was open up the composite.fsh file and change the shadowdarkness value from 1.20 to 0.80. This should re-light up those caves for you!
awesome, i took about 4 hours to make it so it didnt hit black screen but it finally worked!!! its awesome!, i cant belive theres a mod like this! this makes minecraft more beautifull in the day and adds more silent and darkness to the night, makes the points of games pop-out. good work! and yes, there are some shadows that MAYBE are a bit out of place but they still look beautifull, is just goergeus. somewhat my friends look at me as a little girl since im scared of dark caves and keep staring at the new shiny sunset xD. but its awesome! it goes perfect with the texture pack i use (asher madam). my computer is from heaven so i dont lag, its time to add water shader and finish the job. thx for making such a beautifull thing. diamond pants for you.
All is good, unbelievable and all that, but there is one thing that made me uninstall the mod.
Internal lighing.
Unless I'm doing something wrong, torches dont lighten up areas around, not mentioning about shadows.
I've got a nice tavern built but with shaders it's dark and kinda foggy inside. When with shaders off, it's nicely lit as it should.
Whole village and all areas where I put anly light sources go much darker and loose all atmosphere.
Same ****. Torches didn't light the area and this break all coolness of this awesome shader... =( Is it fixable?

Sorry for my bad english sometimes, I'm Belarussian.
Would it be possible (either author so someone else) to rotate the light source path by 45 degrees?
So the light wouldn't be coming from the sun or moon any more (unless directly above).
Due to the way minecraft is made out of blocks having the light sources aligned to them cause lots of oddities on the sides of blocks (and I know you've done all you can to improve this).
I think this would be much preferable to having the sources aligned to the ones you see in the sky..
I attempted to make a diagram to help explain this.
Ok so the red line is the current path and the green line is the suggested path of the light sources.

I proposed this idea to daxnitro (since it's out of my abilities) and he didn't seem to want to work on it.
i woudl really love to use this mod. i am running a macbookpro 4G 12". whenever i install it i lag like crap. is there any way to remedy this without having to buy a computer/more RAM/run on a bigger comp? for my videos/screenshots this mod would improve them soooo much. thx,
Actually, I've nearly ripped my hair out at how much this has been discussed. People seem to think that Minecraft ever dealt with lighting in a high-dynamic-range way. I'm totally aware of this problem and I've contemplated ways to fix it but none of those things are ideal for performance quite yet. It's still on my to-do list.
Sorry about that im new to the forum, i hadnt realized. But i am glad to see you are working on it. Thanks for the quick reply and I hope your hair remains on your head.
The indoor lighting issue is a well known problem, guys. The torches actually do still give off light - the problem, however, is that the shadows are added on top of the lighting engine that already exists within Minecraft.
I have one suggestion...this could be incredibly naive of me (I have no expertise whatsoever in GLSL shading), but could it be possible to fix the "gloomy indoor lighting" issue by simply treating the torches as a complete absence of shadows, rather than their own light source?
ie. subtract these "shadows" around each torch to increase their brightness:
Then again though, I guess that could result in a big performance hit, since that requires the game to "scan" for torches in order to subtract the shadows. Hrm...
As i have seen many people got problems with the textures bug, I'd like to say something.
On Dax' wiki someone figured out that the solution to every texturebug like those explained in upper posts is to equip a glowing item (golden apple, enchanted items...)
This will solve the problem for sure.
However, did anyone figured out how to get those dynamic shadows? I have the texures bug every time i start a world and solve it with the solution above, but those shadows don't turn up

Em...I'd suggest reading the opening post again, heh. This actually requires Optifine!
hey Im having some trouble using the god rays effect and was just wondering if anyone could help me out. First of all I am using an ati 6950 with 1 gb gddr5 ram, an I3 first gen 2.6 oced to 3.08 ghz (not sure what model exactly), and 8 gigs of ram.
The god ray turns on just fine but the effect is not what i think was intended. Maybe im wrong but from what ive seen of god rays from videos this isnt quite right.
see within the rays it seems to be copying the outline of the vista or something Look closely. Maybe im wrong and this is how it was intended but a response would be appreciated.
to install optifine all you have to do is open up your minecraft.jar (which is located in C:\Users\ "your user"\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\bin)
then open up minecraft.jar with winrar or 7zip or something like that (by right clicking and using open with). Then open the optifine zip or rar file and drag and drop its contents straight into minecraft.jar. MAKE SURE to delete meta inf. then you should be fine. Its also best to do this with a fresh minecraft.
I cant install this right, because it makes my minecraft lag. how can i fix it?
If your minecraft is lagging its most likely because your compute can't handle it if you could give some computer specs we would be able to help you out a little more. But it sounds like your computer just isnt powerful enough to handle this mod as it is quite taxing. There are a few things you can do like lowering your view distance and turning of smooth lighting, Sonicether has listed a few on the front page if you want to check those tweaks out but there isnt much else you can do.
I do this and Minecraft works, but I can't see the landscape. Can you please help me again?
What exactly do you mean cant see the landscape? some screenshots might help. I dont think i have ever encountered a problem with optifine making the landscape hard to see. But Just to rule out the obvious you havent accidently changed the view distance have you?

This version is absolutely amazing even better then the last!
EDIT: How do you do the spoiler tag thingy?
Does this work with water shaders?

You type [spoiler] on the one end and /spoiler with square brackets on the other end of the item you want hidden
