While many of the features have already been added, a few have not yet been implemented or simply haven't made it in. This thread will remain for anyone missing any particular feature, however it will no longer be recieving any updates from now on.[/size][/color]
With this mod, you can quickly create accurate backgrounds for the main menu. If you want it to, it adds them to your texturepack directly. The mod also allow you to make panorama images of various types. With the help of Photoshop or GIMP, you can even make your world look like a planet! If you are interested in animation, you have the ability to make timelapses of anything that you can make an image of.
The mod edits edits the "GuiMainMenu" class (blq.class) to remove the blur from the the background. This class will probably conflict with any mod that changes the main menu. In case you're using such a mod, you can just skip this file. (remove it from the zip before you drag and drop) Doing so will not break anything. I might put it up as a separate download if it'is common, so please tell me if you do.
With the changes in the new launcher, I reccommend using [url=http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/939149-launcher-magic-launcher-117-mods-options-profiles-news/]Magic Launcher[/url], but if you want to install the mod manually, follow the video in the spoiler.

You can use any zip-program, but using WinRAR you do the following:
- Close Minecraft if it's open
- Go to %appdata%\.minecraft\bin

- Drag and drop everything into minecraft.jar
- Open Terminal from Applications>Utilities

[*]When the mod captures the images, it does a bunch of changes, such as hiding the HUD, changing FoV and resolution. Don't panic! Everything gets restored when it's done.

[*]Resolution – The resolution is the same as both width and height of a single screenshot in a basic panorama panorama. When you increase the number of columns or rows, each screenshot will be narrower. Then instead, you can think of it as (roughly) a fourth of the width of the final image.
[*]Time - If you take a single image, a delay will be added evenly between all the pieces, so the image takes the set time to make. If you instead have more images, each image will be taken as quickly as possible, but with delay between the images instead. If you set the time lower than what your computer can handle, the images will simply be rendered without delay.
[*]Orientation – For horizontal panoramas the orientation is the leftmost point in the image. In the Panorama+ mode (and background mode), it is the ”center” of the image. (Try panorama+ with the Center setting to ”cross” and you will see where it is)
[*]Toggle Manual Settings - Changes the buttons into textboxes or sliders, so you can choose any custom value.

[spoiler]When you toggle to manual settings, many of the usual buttons and sliders change. Besides orientation that becomes a slider, all buttons become textboxes. With these you can type in your own values for things instead of the presets. The textboxes in this mod are more advanced than the old ones were in Minecraft even though they aren't quite like the new ones yet, but it can be good to know the differences. Here is a list of the changes compared to the old ones.

[spoiler]If you set Save to Texture pack to “no”, the images for the background will be saved in a folders. At the location you chose, it will create a folder called ”title” that everything will go into. You can then add the backgrounds to a texture pack later. Remember that you are selecting a folder and not a file!
If you instead set Save to Texture pack to ”yes”, it will do the work for you.
There are two files that you need to select. First, you need to find where the texture pack you want to add the background to is. This is the target texture pack. If you choose a file that doesn’t exist, it will create a new texture pack, otherwise it will overwrite the old one. Also, you probably want to set up a texture pack where all the textures are taken from. This is the base texture pack. You don’t have to use your current texture pack’s textures if you don’t want to, but most likely you will. If you choose a file that doesn’t exist, you will get a texture pack with only the background (and default textures). You can’t overwrite an existing texture pack without loading textures, in case you just mistyped something.
If you replace your current texture pack, you will see your textures changing to the default ones after a little while. When it changes back, the background has been added.

[*]Resolution - You can change the resolution if you toggle manual settings. You might want to do this for a HD texture pack, but otherwise, don’t change it.
[*]Orientation - This decides where the background will start spinning.

[size=large][font=Century Gothic]Horizontal Panorama[/font][/size][size=medium] - Panoramas, Timelapses and Planets[/size]
[spoiler]The horizontal panorama mode creates a typical panorama, the one you recognize from photos, showing your world 360 degrees around you. Unlike other modes, by default this mode ignores the sky and the ground. The images that the mode produces are wide, but not that high, so they are ideal for things like a banner.

[spoiler]The most simple type of panorama is made out of four square screenshots, one in each direction. These are put together next to each other making a simple panorama. The advantage with these are that they are really quick to do. Even at the highest resolution (preset), they only take a second to make one.

[*]Resolution – Set this to whatever you want.
[*]Orientation – The images are taken left -> right and the direction you set this to will be the starting point. If you want something special to be in the panorama, set the orientation away from it. Otherwise, it will be split in two at the ends of the panorama.

[*]Time: Use "As quick as possible".

[i]Quick description: Increase the column number and you have a rounded panorama.[/i]
[spoiler] The square panorama looks kind of odd if you would compare it to a photo panorama. It stretches in certain areas and isn’t rounded at all. If you want to make a panorama that looks rounded, you will need to increase the number of columns. Although you always capture 360 degrees, you can adjust the number of screenshots that are taken along the way. Each screenshot will then become narrower. The more columns you use, the rounder the image looks, but also the longer it takes to make. With high settings, it might take 10-15 seconds to make one, but it depends a lot on your computer.
Since each screenshot is narrower, this means that most of the screen will be black. It is never completely black; the active part of the window is simply very small and in the top left corner. Another thing to think about when you use more columns is that you get more borders between each image captured. If something is moving on that border, it might get cut into pieces. On the other hand though, with smaller screenshots each screenshot take less time to make, so it might not have time to move!
[b]Summary of the Settings[/b][list]
[*]Resolution – Choose anything. It has a slight effect on the time it takes.
[*]Orientation - Do the same as with the square panorama.
[*]Columns – You can pick any number of columns and it will be more rounded than the default 4, but I reccommend using 25 or higher. The most extreme values don’t make much difference besides boosting the time it takes, so values above 200 are probably just pointless.
[*]Rows – Keep it at 1
[*]Time - If you aren't doing timlapse images or animations, you can leave it at the default. ("As quick as possible")
[font=lucida sans unicode,lucida grande,sans-serif][size=medium][b]Equirectangular panorama (360x180 panorama)[/b][/size][/font]
[i]Quick description: Increase the number of rows.[/i]
[spoiler]As long as you have the row setting set to 1, you will only see half of what is between your feet and the sky right above you. This means that if you try to make a planet out of a rounded panorama, you will create a vortex, because you are trying to stitch together the ground below you without actually seeing it.
To fix this, you can increase the number of rows. Whenever you have two or more rows, you will get the full height of the image. When you do this, it is important to think of that the column value suddenly becomes very important. If you have a too low setting, the bottom and top of the panorama will be jagged, so try to always use many columns.
Whenever you double either the number of columns or the number of rows, you double the total amount of screenshots you take. This means that 4*400 should take the same time as 2*800 even though the later will looks much less jagged. The reason you increase the row value is because it keeps the image from stretching. This isn’t as obvious though so go for the columns as much as possible. The only reason you keep the rows’/columns’ value low is to save time.
[b]Summary of the Settings[/b][list]
[*]Resolution – Think about what resolution you use, if you think it takes long,
[*]Orientation - Do the same as with the square panorama.
[*]Columns – It is important to keep this as high as possible, at least 100 at all times. 200-800 is the best.
[*]Rows – I recommend 4, but use 2 if you want to save time.
[*]Time - Unless you are making a timelapse, keep the default.
[spoiler]The vertical panorama works much like the rounded panorama, but rotated. The only differences are that you are changing the rows instead of columns and that you don't capture a 360 shot.[/spoiler]
[size=large][font=Century Gothic]Panorama+[/font][/size] - Three different types
[spoiler]While this is probably the most odd mode and mostly is just an experiment for fun, it does have one useful feature. It can be used as an alternative to an equirectangular panorama when making planets if you're using the Flexify plugin. If you are going to make a planet timelapse, this is definitely the way to go, because it simply takes too long time otherwise.
This mode has two unique settings. The mode setting that has the options Cross/Fill/Sawtooth and the center option that can be either down, forward or up.
The Cross option is the most simple type, it is a horizontal panorama with the ground and the sky extending in the “middle”. The Fill setting works pretty much the same, only for all directions. This can be a bit confusing though. Finally the sawtooth option is a variation of Fill where you only see the part of the sky/ground that is in front of you in a cone (sort of), so everything is only shown once.
The second setting determines where you want the center of the image to be. Forward is the default, but if you pick up/down instead, the panorama will be doing a loop. [/spoiler]
This mode is not much different from a normal screenshot, but with some settings to play with.

When you are doing timelapse images, you can use either a rounded panorama or an equirectangular panorama. (Both are types of horizontal panoramas.) Before you continue, if you haven't already, look at how the one you chose works.
The main control when doing a timelapse is in the time setting. How long it should take depends on what you want to capture, and it's important to think about the timing. If you are making a panorama of a sunrise and want to have the transition in the middle, you need think of both when you start and how long it should be.
I recommend using a local server or using Single Player Commands so you are able to change the time of the day, it’s much easier than having to wait 10/20 minutes, because you started late or put some setting wrong. Also, keep in mind that you will have to protect yourself from your surroundings. You will be spinning around for minutes, so make sure nothing can push or hurt you. If you move, the image will get ruined.
Since you are going to spend quite a while capturing the image, you can exaggerate the usual settings a bit if you want to. If you don't, it will just wait instead, so why not go with a higher resolution or a higher number of columns / rows?

[spoiler]There are two parts to doing a timelapse animation, first you need to create a series of images within Minecraft, but then you will also need to put them together to a movie or a gif or what it is you want to do. The second step can be done in many ways, which depend on what programs you have available. Many programs cost money and some only work on specific OS, so it's hard to find something that works for everyone. I'm going to describe how you can do it with VirtualDub, which is free but unfortunately only works for Windows. Before you start, you can download it from [url="http://virtualdub.sourceforge.net/"]here[/url].
Since we are taking tons of images, a good start is to create a folder where all the images will go, so you don't get a big mess. For the most part, capturing many images works exactly like usual. There are two settings that have to do specifically with timelapses; the time and the number of images. The time depends a lot on what you want to capture but you always get the number of images from the time your final video should take multiplied by its framerate. If you are doing very advanced panoramas, it limits how quickly you can capture images, so keep that in mind. You might have to lower the settings to keep the fps up. Doing planets the usual way for example will simply never work. (I will write later about doing it another way with the help of flexify)
Once you've set everything up, you just have to let it run and it will start filling up your folder with numbered images.
Putting the images together is actually very simple. Inside VirtualDub, there are only three steps you need to go through. You can read more [url="http://www.virtualdub.org/blog/pivot/entry.php?id=34"]here[/url].[list]
[*]Go to File &amp;--#62; Open video file... and pick the first image in the sequence. (e.g. panorama0.png) VirtualDub will now load all the images as a video file.

[spoiler]Using only the mod and Photoshop, you can create some pretty neat-looking planets and you can also make the world look like a big well.
Before you can start doing anything in Photoshop, you need an image to work with. Look at the instructions for making “equirectangular” panoramas (360x180) to see how you do.
You can start by loading the image into Photoshop.
The first thing you need to do is make sure that the image is the square. Change the height so it is the same as the width.
For the next step, you will have to choose whether to make a planet or a well. If you want to make a planet, you should rotate the image 180 degrees. If you want to make a well, skip this step.
Now it’s time to turn it into a planet/well. You use the filter Polar Coordinates to make the effect. A window will pop up. You should just have to press “OK”, but make sure that “rectangular to polar” is selected.
By now you could call it done, but depending on your image you might want to do a bit more work.
The originally square image has been made into a circle, but to fill the corners, it stretches the edge pixels straight out. If you have a blue sky, this won’t show, but if you have something above your head such as a ceiling, a tree or clouds, it can look ugly. (The image below has the sun stretched)
There are several things you can do to make this look better, so I’m just going to give some general guidelines.
To start out, select the circle by dragging from corner to corner with the elliptical marquee tool. It’s usually hidden behind the rectangular marquee tool, so you need to swap them first. (Press and hold on the icon)
Invert the selection to have the corners selected.
Now, you can do a few different things. If you are outdoors and want to keep it as a square image, you could make the selected area look like the sky by sampling a color from close to the edge, pressing delete to bring up the fill dialog and change "Use" to Foreground Color. If you don’t want this, you can replace it with transparency. To do this you need to first make sure your layer isn’t a background layer. Right-click on it and choose “Layer from Background”.
After that, press delete and you’re done.
Now there are other ways of doing this. Floppy_gunk for example made one with blurred edges so it looks almost like an atmosphere. Do what you feel like, there’s no “right” way. [/spoiler]

Hey this is a good idea but it is not that hard to do it manuly and it might cos lag to.
I agree that it isn't too difficult to do yourself, however doing it accurately takes time and effort. I don't think the mod will cause any lag while playing, since it doesn't do anything when it's not actively being used.
Cool! I like how you made it. I've been thinking of adding vertical panoramas, but I've hesitated because I couldn't decide how I should make them. I have some ideas, and we'll see how it ends up like. It's on my to-do list now. :smile.gif:

PS. Is it just me or do you always have to refresh the page to get the images to resize? Maybe I have too many big images...
I've added a new settings for controlling the number of separate images that the panorama is made up of. This allows you to make panoramas more like the ones you are used to seeing, that are much rounder. This means that there aren't any obvious cuts in the image and it's able to take good images at sunrise/sunset. It also takes good close-up/indoor panoramas without changing the field of view.
I decided to finish this feature before continuing with the GUI. I will also somewhere along the line throw in a vertical panorama mode which should have this new setting too.

This is a great mod. I love it and it is really useful. Only complaint I have is that I keep getting a error.
What am I doing wrong?
I've had errors like this before when you use too high resolutions and I've noticed that this type of errors seem to have become more common recently. I assumed it was the same error, but from your report it seems to be a new bug. Thanks for pointing it out, I'll look into it. :smile.gif:
