Can you make it work on players in SMP and I know this is a dumb question but I'm a new members so foul you plz "approve" my posts I don't even know what that means…
A very simple modification that uses the already implemented label above all the living entities in the game but just no more used anymore. And depending if you consider this cool or cheating, you'll love or hate this mod. So, if you're gonna hate this, just don't install it.
How to install
Simply open your Minecraft.jar file and replace a class file inside by this one :
Considering that 1.3.1 changed "everything", this mod can't work as before.
The server part doesn't transmit any health information to the client except for yourself and the dragon. Since even the SP game is now running on a server (in the background) the only possible health information I can show above mobs head is pretty much useless.
I don't think I can update this mod to your satisfaction. I've made a version that shows the default max health when in debug mode (shift-f3), which helps to find out where is monster I'm hearing nearby. If that's enough for you, I can give you the mod, if not... sorry but the new minecraft version made this mod impossible unless someone make popular a server mod to make servers more talkative.
In other words, this mod can't continue to exist as is. Maybe I can do another mod similar to this one but to show the mobs name above their head by detecting which java class they are. I don't know...
It would still be useful to light up caves just to see a tag on mobs, that's what I used it for anyways. So if you could release the mod as such, I would still use it. =]
