Uh... Can someone help me? I seem to have lost my way in the aether. Does anyone know if there is an aether version of a compass? a normal one doesn't seem to work... If not, could one be made?
The Zane's Minimap Mod works just fine in the Aether for me.
OK, so uh, I think I found a few bugs that might be worth mentioning with Aether v1.02. First off is that some of the Silver Dungeons will create walls that block off the staircases up and down floors. I ran into this problem with a couple of them now, and it's kind of frustrating because I can't break through the walls unless the Valkyrie Queens in those dungeons decide to magically committ suicide.
This pushed me to download SPC for the noclip function so I could simply float through the wall and suddenly everything's yippy-skippy. Well. I managed to get SPC working with no issues... but I use the word "working" loosely. For instance, my game began to consistently lag horribly. I did not ever suffer this lag until SPC was installed. (I used the auto-installation, but made sure it installed into the proper folders. Perhaps there still could've been a mistake made here?) Well, I decided to stomach through the lag until I fixed the couple of Silver Dungeons that had these misplaced walls.
Well, I went to the dungeon without the wall problem first to make quick work of its boss using SPC to test it out (I'm such a cheater) before I went and handled the others. Well, I was being optimistic about the lag not being all THAT bad until Valkyries were refusing to spawn. I used the spawn commands to bring them in anyway, and I checked to make sure the boss was still there, and she was. I was thinking maybe there were a bunch of aerwhales slowing the game down somewhere, so I tried to use a command to kill them... only in my noobiness with SPC, killed myself instead. I rushed back as fast as I could to the dungeon, and when I got there, turned on noclip so I could skip all the staircases. Potential glitch here: when I turned on noclip, it warped me all the way back to a spot near my very first ever portal into the Aether as if it was using that portal as a SMP-styled spawn zone. (Maybe this is intentional and I just don't know?) Another potential glitch: after this moment when I warped after turning noclip on, there was not a single boss to be found in any of the silver dungeons. I looked in the one I had died in: no boss, and the walls were still indestructible. I traveled about the distance of half a map to another silver dungeon, walls were indestructible, yet the boss wasn't there either. (Due to my world's current lack of dungeons, I was unable to see if the disappearing boss phenomenon applied to bronze and gold dungeons as well.)
Is there a possibility using SPC has screwed with the boss spawning rate, or allowed the Valkyrie Queens to escape their boss rooms somehow? I feel it's also worth mentioning that after I started using the SPC to spawn mobs in, that mob spawning became very... uniform. And I mean that as in: on one island I found a large group of blue moas packed together. On another island after that, same phenomenon only with cockatrices. And up in the air beyond that there was a concentration of aerwhales. Think of a WorldEdit brush, but with mobs. It was odd, to say the least. And after I noticed this, Valkyries were also refusing to spawn at all, along with the Valkyrie Queens. I had to spawn them in manually. (Unfortunately, I can't do this with the Valkyrie Queen, and even if I could I don't think it work for making the dungeon blocks minable / accessing the boss chest.
All that said, perhaps fixes can be made in the future? (I have also considered this is all due to an epic fail on my part and technically is, because I was too spaced out to back up my world file, or also possibly it's just the outlandish lag [like 2-5 FPS]. If anyone knows of a way to reverse this, please let me know.)
Uh... Can someone help me? I seem to have lost my way in the aether. Does anyone know if there is an aether version of a compass? a normal one doesn't seem to work... If not, could one be made?
I would just say to jump off into the over world and then go back through the portal
Good bye! I won't miss your sorry ass. Who know people could actually suck at playing Minecraft?
Nice way to ignore the fact that the silver and gold bosses are overpowered.
Whacking away at a boss for ages is not fun in any definition of the word. Having to fly on a pig for five minutes to get to the dungeon after you die is not fun, either.
Take a look at the comparison between Zelda Dungeons and Aether Dungeons.
LoZ Series Dungeons
* Relatively long, interesting, unique dungeons
* Many enemies and puzzles to encounter in each dungeon
* Checkpoint at the boss battle
* A fun, usually challenging boss fight with many stages
* Items unique to each dungeon type
- Some puzzles can take a while to figure out
Aether Dungeons
* Unique dungeons
* Great loot at the end
- Dungeons are tedious to get through
- Boss battles are long and boring
I've said this before, and I'll say it again: there is a reason that the "reflect projectiles back at the boss" is only one stage of boss fights in other games: it gets repetitive and boring! There is no increase in difficulty as the time goes on for the Gold Boss, except for maybe a few more bouncing fireorbs.
Ok, two things. First:22727th! Second: I installed the mod, and I'm sure I did it right. Now, when I open Minecraft, it goes to the Aether menu, as it should, it lets me move my mouse, moves the clouds when I move over them etc., but when I click something, Minecraft freezes. It doesn't black screen, it doesn't kill my computer, it just freezes. I tried to get into the config files, but I apparentl don't have any program that can let me in. Even the "T" button in the top right that should bring up the normal menu doesn't work, it freezes my computer. The total amount of frustration makes me want to kill puppies and kick babies and old people right now >.< So, anyone who can help I will give reputation and undying respect.

Not to burst your bubble, but I really don't think Legend of Zelda-style dungeons were what the Aether was aiming at. You may have a point (I personally think that the Health of bosses should be lowered a smidge considering they completely tear through armor and it's nigh impossible to avoid getting hit) however, you are trying to turn your personal opinion of dislike for the Aether into a fact-based argument. If you don't like it, don't use it and move the hell on. >.>
Edit: And this comment... "- Dungeons are tedious to get through" Really? Not single dungeon is tedious to get through. Bronze is 2-4 rooms, all accessible from one another, one of which being the boss room. Silver is bit bigger with staircases and whatnot, but it's really not that much of a bother. Gold dungeon? It's one room. So tedious...
hmmm, i have been doing some research in the music files, turns out that the aether menu song, is a song by mana- Drama y luz
and yet no credits to the band?
copyright perhaps.
so.. i expect something to change
I find it weird how you can just create an unlimited number of lore books just by spamming the keyboard. wouldn't it make more sense to create lore books by putting them in the enchanter? i'm not hating, this is a great mod and all, but thats just my opinion.
This mod is so AWSOME. However since I have a slighly old computer I was dealing with more lag than playing with all the add-ons of this mod. Unfortunatly that means that this is not the mod for me. So I encourage all with a good computer to download this and try it for yourself!

Those who are dealing with lag can make good use of OptiFine to reduce many of Minecraft's fancy graphics and effects, in order to achieve a less laggy experience.

That's odd, which of the music files in .minecraft/mods/music/ is the one you recognise?

Notepad can be used to open config files. (just right click then click 'open with':smile.gif:
And go into the .minecraft folder and choose options (open in notepad) change sound to '0.0'.
If you get any freezing after turning the sound off then there is something wrong with the install.

Well of course, we've always planned to improve the bosses in the future. However, at the moment we're focusing heavily on Aether SMP, and some other improvements to existing features. Aether SMP pretty much works in its current state, but we have to make MANY changes so that the dungeons work correctly with large groups of people. There are a few things which are wrong with your dungeon comparison, though:
- I don't see checkpoints working well in Minecraft. Especially in this case, you could easily just keep dying and respawn at the boss. It would be too easy.
- Items ARE unique to each dungeon type in the Aether. You cannot get the dungeon rewards from Bronze Dungeons in Silver Dungeons, and visa versa. I'm not sure what you were talking about there.
Anyway, the first one we're likely to tweak is the Gold boss, and later on the Bronze/Silver. You can also expect much more complex boss battles and mobs in the upcoming "Platinum Dungeons". You can also expect some very complex AI for future Nether/Aether NPCs.
A little question: How much time will you update it to 1.8 after releasing normal version of this update? I am just asking, don't say I am noob or what. I just wanna ask. If you don't want to anwers- it's ok for me.
It depends on how quickly MCP updates (also known as Minecraft Coder Pack). We cannot update the mod until that is released, and even so we would need a few days after that to update all of the class files.
If I may I would like to make a suggestion to add custom items made from aether wood, like workbenches and more craftables. Also more ores would be cool too, I really like the special abilities for items.
