Lightnik is a simple client tweak that adds a lighting/brightness modifier setting to your client.
When installed, two new configurable keys will show up in your Controls menu: "Lightnik On/Off" and "Lightnik Menu". By default, the menu is set to the left bracket, and the on/off toggle is set to the right.
Pressing this key in-game will bring up a single-button menu, where you can toggle through Lighting Modifiers between -1.0 to 1.0, at increments of 0.1, and the special "Mobdar". You can quickly toggle between your custom setting and vanilla lighting with the "On/Off" key.
For the numerical values, 0.0 is normal lighting, 1.0 is fullbright, and -1.0 yields complete blackness. The most useful of these values are those above 0.0, as they brighten up the darkest of times, not to mention locations. See clearly at night! Find your way underground! Build with less hassle underwater!
Then there's the Mobdar. This nifty little feature highlights spots where mobs can spawn, acting as a builder's assistant when lighting up your creations. No more guesswork: light levels below seven stick out like a sore thumb - or, more precisely, like a black spot in a world of light.
All light modifiers with both smooth and blocky lighting modes. This mod also works on both single-player and SMP.

v1.1: The menu no longer appears if you press the trigger key in a GUI, such as chat on SMP.
v1.0: Initial release.
Check out my other mods!
I, personally, recommend using MCPatcher to manage your mods, though by no means is it required. It handles the hassle of backups, patching, and re-patching for you. That's right: no more copying files, and you can always roll back changes if something gets messed up.

will you implement my request? i do not wish to have to change the brightness via menu every time i want to do so, a toggle key between my setting ad vanilla would make things easier like fullbright does
