In the Year of 1337, an apocalypse hit Minecraftia. The sky became dark, the grass died away, forest fires became rampant, and the rivers ran dry. The only ones left alive are the creatures of the night, and one human, trying to survive.
Basically this mod is an edit to the original terrain generation. It generates a fallout/wasteland/apocalypse themed map. This includes:
-No more grass.
All of the grass blocks in the world are replaced with dirt, all the tall grass has turned into dead shrubs. Shrubs now also grow on dirt. Yes, this means no more passive mobs spawn. I'm looking into ways for you to get the passive mob loot. Maybe through dungeons?
-Changes to trees.
Trees have a much lower spawn rate. If a tree does spawn it is more likely to be a big tree then a little tree, and it will have no leaves at all(Unless its at an Oasis, see below). See how long your wood supplies last when you can't grow trees.
-No pumpkins, reeds, or flowers.
Pretty self-explanatory. They don't spawn anymore.
-No oceans.
No more giant oceans of water for unlimited water supplies. You can however get water from little springs (moving water).
-Changed sky color.
The sky is now a darker red-ish color. -Randomised Oasis!
They say that you must bear the worst of the storm to find the eye. These Oasis are located in deserts, and are small 4x4 squares of grass with a tree, water, and some randomised tall grass and flowers. Use these to help you survive!
-New ruined houses
Now there is a random chance of a ruined house spawning in the world. Think of it as a dungeon with less loot and no spawner. These are completely random and contain things to help you survive.
-Modified dungeons
Dungeons have been modified to act more like fallout shelters. Things like saplings, buckets of water, and planks have been added to the chests. There are also naturally occuring beds inside next to the spawner. (*Underlined things represent items that you can't get anywhere else*)

Installing:
Surival Singleplayer:
1. Navigate to your .minecraft folder. For me its at: c:\users\<myusername>\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft.
2. Open up your bin folder.
3. Open up the minecraft.jar using a program like winrar.
4. Drag the .class files inside of the Wastelandv0.5 folder into your minecraft.jar
5. Delete the META-INF folder inside the minecraft.jar
6. Launch Minecraft and start a new world(or use an old one if you want all new chunks that are generated to be wasteland).
Survival Multiplayer(Vanilla Server):
1. Navigate to the folder containing your minecraft-server.jar
2. Open up the server.jar using a program like winrar.
3. Drag the .class files inside of the WastelandMultiplayerv0.5.5 folder into your minecraft-server.jar
4. Launch the server.jar! All new terrain generated will be Wasteland!
Upcoming Updates:
-A stand alone add-on that will feature new blocks and mobs to help fit with the world. This will include things like eradiated material that you can craft into lasers, mutated mobs, and so on. (ETA unknown, soonish probably).
-A tool that allows you to generate a map using this mod with set sizes, perfect for SMP.
-Making it SMP compatible.

Seems to have ALOT of potential. Stick with it, okay. Also, try to add a way of getting wood, or at least a replacement for it because you need a decent amount of wood(or something similar) to get by, and by the looks of it the wood shown in those pictures probably won't cut it.

Oo that's an interesting idea, I'll look into maybe adding that as optional in case someone wants to play on a preexisting save.
try to get nandonalt to let you use "cactus craft" cause that would be kool
Although I love cactus craft, the practical uses of including in my mod aren't very many. Plus I'm sure nandonalt has enough to worry about without a rookie modder pestering him to use his code. However, I definately recommend the mod for anyone who likes cacti to have a use :smile.gif:

Nope, it won't corrupt the save, however it won't convert any of the land you've already explored to a wasteland. If you leave the explored area then it will start generating wasteland.

Yep, creating completely new content is planned. I want to create a stand alone mod/addon that CAN be paired with this, but this terrain generator doesn't require it incase you just want vanilla mc with weird generation. Then that addon can have mutated creepers and fast zombies and the like.

My projects for tomorrow are working on adding this in as optional (having the ability for regular minecraft terrain generation), and special add-on mobs like mutated zombies and the like.
Questions, firstly are you gonna make this a modloader mod in the near future, and two would you consider making this a alternate dimension, it would be cool to have a wasteland dimension that has certain ores and things that are hard to get and survive in. This looks awesome though!

To answer your questions
1. I am looking into making it possibly be a mod loader mod. The problem is I haven't found any documentation or tutorials yet on creating mods that replace some of the original source code. Most modloader mods just add new content to the game. I will continue looking however. Also this SHOULD work with other modloader mods.
2. I'm thinking about it, it might be cool to have a desolate and barren dimension. But what would the portals be made out of? :smile.gif:
