Sorry about my english, my native language is spanish!
If you put 20$ in a box, I put 20$ in the box too and then I sell you the box for 30$, we both make a 10$ profit, right?

We all have opinions and often think the other guy's stinks!
It takes MANY Mods to do half the job Eloraam did with one.
The Lady is/was genius and I sorely miss her. It's not worth IMO adding 6 Mods to half way match RP. I'll do without thank you.

Eloraam will most likely be missed by the Forge team if she is truly making her own game, mainly because she was the one that developed the forge ore dictionary. Which ALL of us use when we have the same ores from different mods.

Some points I feel everyone should consider regarding alternatives:
First and the most obvious should be that these alternatives are all new. RedPower was new once also, in fact it wasn't even called RedPower it was called Integrated Redstone. If you are expecting other mods to immediately surpass RedPower then you are expecting pigs to fly. The authors of these alternatives need time to improve their mods. However they need something else as well...
FEEDBACK, each of ya'll who refuse to step out from under Eloraam's shadows and try the alternatives is one less player able to provide suggestions and bug reports for these mods. They are missing a feature or something is too easy? Well deciding not to use that mod isn't going to help anything, give your honest feedback to the authors, keep trying their updates, let them know when they have nailed something and when they have not. They don't have to agree with you, and most will probably disagree with the majority of opinions thrown at them, but one thing is certain, if you don't speak up they will never hear you in the first place.
"But Eloraam had a perfect vision, I never had to suggest anything, it was all just so perfect." Ok well, time to join the working class who doesn't always get what they want out of a box, buck up and give back to the community with your input.
As for this complaint I keep seeing going around "Oh no, the alternatives require multiple mods! I don't like that! Nothing can replace RedPower!" that is utter and complete rubbish. There is no reason that mods from multiple authors cannot integrate just as well as a single mod provided they have an API. In the corner cases where an API cannot cover something often authors will assist each other in adding specific support between certain features in their mods. Bottom line is if it is something that will improve the experience for end users then the authors will probably be right on top of that.
There are loads of disadvantages to a single mod however. It makes it harder to keep updated unless you have a team working on it. Updates can be slower also. With multiple mods under multiple authors one author can update their mod due to bugs while the others focus on new features for instance. It is like having a team but each member is focused on one aspect they really love rather than being spread around trying to make changes all over the place.
It increases bugs, when you have one big mod, one bug can take the entire thing out and take forever to find. When you have multiple mods and have a bug that one part is taken out and is much easier to isolate and fix.
Multiple mods make features optional, love wires but have no need for frames then just install Redlogic by Immibis. Like frames but hate redstone, Redstone in Motion by Jakj. Want both things? Then install both, they work wonderfully together too.
Speaking of multiple mods, RedPower 2 comes as a set of mods, 4 specifically now and 7 in the previous version. I don't recall this being a problem to anyone.
The bottom line is, those of you who refuse to use anything but RedPower, who have already waited a year for anything of substance to come from the author, you will probably continue this wait for a long long time to come. There are people who still insist vacuum tubes are superior to silicon transistors. There will always be those of you who refuse to try anything new and to allow yourself to enjoy it.
Those of you who are sick of the waiting and want to have fun with the tons of new stuff coming out weekly, I mean have you seen some of this stuff? It is amazing! Give the alternatives an honest try and let the authors know what you think. The alternatives are out there, they are seedlings, whether or not they grow into what RedPower was a year ago will depend on many factors and one of those factors is you (yes it is ok, point to yourself right now, go ahead it is ok) yes you are a factor in what happens in the future.
It is by your voices alone that the future of Minecraft modding will have an idea of what is needed, what is wanted, and what people simply cannot stand.
Regardless of your chosen path I wish you all the best of luck and happiness because in the end that is all this is about.
Edit to add:
I've also seen some people make the argument there is no reason to upgrade past 1.4.7 citing horses as the only benefit in doing so. Here are 300+ reasons to at least consider it: http://bot.notenoughmods.com/1.6.4.html
Additionally:
1.5.x saw 137 bug fixes to Minecraft and
1.6.x saw 128 additional bug fixes!
Not to mention a number of improvements such as the drag crafting and lava that no longer gets stuck when the source block is removed. Charcoal with its own texture, it's all the little things that add up over time. There has been so much going on since 1.4.7.
Wait for what? RP? If you don't see any differences between 1.4.7 and 1.6.4 then by all means, continue to live in the past. Some folks just are more comfortable there, some of us like moving forward and playing with new toys. But, to each his own.
Also, if you are running out of memory you need to set your JVM arguments properly or maybe you need to upgrade your computer.
Tinker's construct and Dartcraft were the only 'big' mods I wanted to play in 1.5.2 and not really worth ditching redpower for or having to play without a comprehensive texture pack. Thaumcraft 4 on the other hand is tempting.
Thermal Expansion 3 is coming out on the 22nd. It will feature the start of a very RP2 like tube system which will never drop items. There is also the mod Tubes which is recent and adds some RP2 like tube functions. So, it is happening, it is just going to take a bit of input from users for these mods get to polished up.
I am creating a private modpack for a new server called "The Lab." I will be making YouTube videos on it. I would like to include RedPower2 in the server pack. The modpack will be redistributed via the Technic Launcher. You can also come on a video if you want.
As stated a week ago, it is time to lock this topic.
Please do not infer anything from the closing of this thread. As the topic has become talk of if/when there will be an update, and there has been a lack of activity by the author, it is deemed that it is best to lock it.
Any and all Redpower 2 updates will (if anywhere) be posted right here. Thanks!
Started playing Minecraft classic in 2010, bought the game in 2011. Still playing in 2023.

it is possible for another modder to update it.
normally i would agree, but i do not believe that elo would be willing to let that happen
