Yeah I know this thread are RP users (just like I am) but most public servers I see redstone engines and BC pipes everywhere instead of glorious tubing
That would be a valid point if tubes were the only part of RP. But it isn't, every major build in every major public server I have seen have used RP in some way. Mainly with red alloy wire but also covers/panels, logic gates, the screwdriver (for pistons, awesome tool), frames and so on.
Tubes might be underused but definitely not RP as a whole.
The problem is just starting a new world. A world with BC3, IC2, RP2 etc. is one where you work a long time on - and to get RP2 stuff (marble, basalt, r/g/b sapphires/nikolite), you need to start over (or do shenanigans with chunk regen etc, which is bothersome and possibly error-prone). Especially for a server you want to keep around for a while it's rather annoying.
I totally understand you I said it some pages earlier, i would love to see elo releasing at least the world package so that we can generate or port worlds over to new releases. Or as someone else stated a mod that combines all ores/gems and world blocks from forge mods together. I mean afaik she developed the ore-directory, so why not bringing it one step further and giving out a mod that combine them all? I would do it instantly and i would also maintain it, but.. and here it comes i'm not a prammer
I mean srsly everyone would profit, players, modders and texturepack creators.
World Gen would be incredibly helpful... surely she knows that more than half of us are waiting on that alone? I could wait a while for the functionality of frames and redpower logic if only I could just generate my world...
I dont even care about wires and logic. All I want are the microblocks so I can play my "main" world again without it being totally screwed up, after months of waiting.
I hate to be a stick in the mud, but why has this topic not been closed like the Aether one? This mod seems to have turned into vaporware while Eloraam thinks up new ways to troll FC. It's taken me a long time to get bitter about this situation, but personally, its getting very frustrating. And since when has this mod not been updated for months because of a few bugs? Isn't that what patches are for? What's shown on Forgecraft looks perfectly functional, at the very least.
Nah i think there is a good chance that the ModAPI will be useful, Grumm seems to spent a lot of time on the forgecraft servers and irc.
The ONLY possible use for the API that i could fathom right now is the easy installation of forge outside of the jar file. THATS IT. There is basically nothing else that the API could accomplish that forge cant. And if for some reason it gets a functionality that forge doesnt have, it would take about five minutes for the community to submit a pull request that adds this to forge. Like I said, forge will ALWAYS be superior to the MojangAPI.
I can't believe that FTB pack is actually releasing this Saturday - and without Redpower 2. I have been patient, I have defended Eloraam against naysayers multiple times. But I really feel that things are getting a bit ridiculous. The server I rent has sat idle for months, yet I still pay for the slight possibility of a Redpower 2 release any day now. As someone who pays for a server out of their own pocket, I'm begging Eloraam to just tell us ANYTHING. Going on twitter and telling us to rely on Direwolf20 for information is hardly a solution. Should I be expecting a RP2 for 1.4.2, or should I wait on 1.4.4? Why can't she just make a 4 sentence post telling us whats actually going on? I'm also getting sick of seeing RP2 all over the Let's Play videos and ForgeCraft. I LOVE Direwolf20 and his videos, and I understand it is a testing environment - but if the mod was so unstable, why does DW20 continue to use it in his spotlights for other mods? I'm begging Eloraam, please, if your not going to release anything this weekend, tell us SOMETHING more than 'fixing bugs' every other month.

Nothing made me angrier than see DW20 on his last mod spotlight holding that saphire sword.
And if you don't play with Mystcraft, because you think having acelerated and dense ores ages is a "bit" overpowered? What you do? Sit and cry.... sillently, of course.

Yu seem convinced the Mod API is useless. Ok, so if Forge updates faster, what is it updating for exactly?
@TheCrestedMingus, i also have my own server rented. I'm also waiting for RP2 but i have no problem with that. I have Mystcraft on my Server.
But that doesn't do anything about the probability of the finally-released version of RP2 needing a more recent Forge version and updated versions of all our other mods. Then you factor in configs, new mods, configs for the new mods, any issues with updating from 1.2.5 worlds, etc...
...then there's the part where other stuff I'm working on (not even gameplay related) is on hold waiting until I can update. ...I have a world mapper, but can't add mod blocks until I know BlockIDs.
I don't mind doing it all, I just don't want to do it again in 3 days.

They work on making mods work better together, adding more hooks for modders to use (adding more functionality that modders can grab hold of easily) etc

Ok, that makes sense. Now what i dont understand is why the mod api is useless.
Because Forge has been developed so well and is actively maintained by very dedicated and able developers.
The time it will take for the Mojang API to rival Forge in functionality will keep most major mods from adopting it in it's earliest incarnations and without hook requests from developers to further later development the Mojang API will add to the challenges it has to overcome already.
...and due to the licenses of the projects Mojang can't just 'adopt' either Bukkit or Forge. They can endorse, but not implement.
add: However, if Mojang implements an official 'mod marketplace' and sells mods, shares profits with devs but requires use of MojAPI that could heavily tilt the scale.

Plus the makers of Forge play with mods and work quite closely with modders, so they experience what functionality is missing and such and hear from those making mods what hooks and functions and integration will be useful. Unless the Mojang people work with the Forge programmers im not sure the API will be as useful as Forge
EDIT: The only thing i hold against the Forge team is their not having taken care of the hooks requested/needed for the Somnia mod to update
its not useless it will be pretty cool for small mods like maybe the macro keybinding mod
but for big mods like redpower which rely heavily one the forge hooks i dont think the mod api will can replace that
at least not any time soon
But there is light at the end of the tunnel since Grumm at least plays on the forgecraft server. So it's not like the guys working on the MC api are un-aware of the hill they have to climb (Forge)
