What it Does:
This mod allows you to create diamonds by burning coal in a furnace. But it isn't as easy as that.
This mod has two versions, easy, and hard. With easy, it takes 32 pieces of coal(not including the fuel to burn it) to make 1 diamond. The hard version however, requires 81 pieces of coal(not including the fuel to burn it) to make 1 diamond. See the images below for instructions on how to make a diamond.
Conflicts:
This mod will not conflict with any other mod, unless if the unlikely chance arises that someone else has a class name exactly the same as I do, which I doubt will happen...
How to install it:
I will only write a tutorial for windows, cause i have absolutely NO idea how to do it on a mac. This tutorial applies for Linux as well.(If you use Linux you should probably already know how to to this anyway)
Anyway:
Download My Mod and Risugami's Mod Loader
Extract The Files from their zip containers.
Hit run ("Windows + R" or search run)
Type "%appdata%" without quotation marks.
Hit enter and open the .minecraft folder.
Go into the Bin folder
Open up the minecraft.jar with 7zip or Winrar etc
Copy the file(s)(.class files) you downloaded straight into the .jar
Delete the META-INF folder
Run Minecraft.
Use this however you like. It is not a very hard mod to make. Just don't claim it as your own or something
Oh and I had a look to see if someone had already created a mod like this. I couldn't seem to find one, but if you did make a mod like this and wish for me to remove mine, then please tell me and I shall.
Sincerely, Jamezo97
Dude, sorry to tell ya, but someone beat you to the cut, months ago! The industrialcraft mod has the same feature, it came way before, and is amazing! Unfortunately, I'd rather get his mod, sorry.

Oh yeah, I've never seen that mod before, looks cool.
But also, that mod hasn't been updated to 1.5_01 yet. So at the moment, this is the only way(I think) to make diamonds using coal in 1.5_01.

Yeah, I sad, It's such an awesome mod! It was updated, just way too buggy, so he's waiting for a bit tryna fix the bugs again, I'll wait for his, sorry! But Hope some people like yours.

Hey, since it seems like your starting to know how to mod, if you ever get better, think of making this mod, a lot of realistic mod lovers might dive in for it! =P It'll just take a lot of effort to get right! Tell me if you don't want this on your post, k? Thanks anyway, and if you ever make it, you gotta give me credit for the idea and designs, I can make fan textures as well.

Lol, it would take a long time to get right. I only started learning java a week ago.
If I get really good(and I mean reeeeaaaaaally good) I will have a crack at it. Not sure how far I would get though.
Thanks for the suggestion :biggrin.gif:

Well, not everyone wants to download a bigger mod, and might rather want this, as a smaller option. Just saying.
Wut?
You don't get diamonds from coal.
You get diamonds from high explosives...
And that would be Diamond Dust
I think a better crafting recipe would be:
and you cook that, blow up your furnace, and get diamond dust.
Maybe craft 9 diamond dust to get a diamond chunk, and cook that in the furnace to make 1/4 diamond shard.
I like your idea, but this makes more sense to me :tongue.gif:
I don't think your calculation is very correct... Excluding the coal needed to burn the coal to make small diamond pieces you need:
4 coal -> 4 small diamond chunks -> 1 big one
So 4 times 9 would be 36 :wink.gif:
I'm excluding the fuel for the furnace because you can also use wood or something else to fuel it :tongue.gif:
It's a good idea though, but I think u should add two versions: one that uses 4 small chunks to make 1 big so in total you would need 36 pieces of coal and the other version would be 9 small chunks = one big one so you need 81 pieces of coal xD
Just an idea though :smile.gif:
I did it XD
So now there is a hard or easy version. Hard takes 81. Easy takes 32
I like this mod a lot! Very realistic since diamonds do actually come from coal, plus, the hard version is not very imbalanced as it's using quite a bit of a very needed resource to make one. I can see this being very useful for those times when you are simply unlucky. To find enough spare coal to make one of these, chances are good that you would have already found a lava pool and have a need for the diamond. I can't tell you how many times I've been able to create obsidian but not been lucky enough to find enough diamonds for a pickaxe to mine it.
As I don't use inventory editors or commands, this is a good mod to solve that problem without downloading a huge mod (albeit full-featured) containing a whole host of compatibility issues to resolve. Not to mention that it's not currently available for this version of Minecraft...
Good job to you and thank you for creating and sharing it.

No problem, thankyou for saying thankyou!
And thanks to everyone else too!!!!
Awesome mod, now thats what I call a challenge.
Well maybe not cause there is huge spawns of coal underground.
Anyways , Diamonds 4 you!
I suggest that for hard mode it should cost more coal :ohmy.gif:
something like 4 smelts 1 > tiny ?
or
maybe make a machine that helps to pressure rise the coal? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synthetic_ ... nd_project
or
maybe you should decrease the durability since its a synthetic diamond and not a diamond found in caves?

Hmmm, they would both require a new furnace unit. I don't know how to make that, but I can always learn :wink.gif:

I'll See what I can come up with.
I can make custom TileEntitys for furnaces etc
Cool, could you show me? I just tried, and I made a new furnace, but it still has the same properties of the old furnace. I have made a new smelting list, but somewhere it is still referring to the old one. Also I cant change the speed, it is referring to the old speed too.
So i made a new furnace, and have spent hours trying to make it different, but everything either throws an error at me, or it doesn't work.
So could you show me an example? That would really help. Cause I'm just stumbling in the darkness at the moment.
Thanks
EDIT: I think the error might be in this bit of code. I have tried to change it, but it keeps on throwing an error.
public boolean blockActivated(World world, int i, int j, int k, EntityPlayer entityplayer)
{
if(world.multiplayerWorld)
{

} else
{
TileEntityFurnace tileentityfurnace = (TileEntityFurnace)world.getBlockTileEntity(i, j, k);
entityplayer.displayGUIFurnace(tileentityfurnace);
return true;
}
}
