OK i installed the mod maually and it crashed when loading a world... then i installed it with magic launcher and it still crashed please fix this for 1.6.2
I'm getting that same error, I don't quite understand it - I have been modding my minecraft since 1.3 beta, so for me to get an hour is really angering me.. and its all mojangs fault.. (they give cookie monster cookie on a fishing line!!!)
I have detemined through extensive testing that the 1.6.2 A3 version of optifine is not compatible with forge #786
OK i installed the mod maually and it crashed when loading a world... then i installed it with magic launcher and it still crashed please fix this for 1.6.2
Ok this is what happened.
I installed the newest versions of the farmcraftory mod, better world generation4,TMI, and optifne. If I follow the instruction for the not so easy way, forge crashes. If I use optinfe through magic launcher, EVERY texture for the farmcraftrory mods becomes black and purple checkered tiles.
I DO and I DONt need optinfe, but it does help make minecraft much, much smoother.
Forge 789 and this do not get along. MC simply wont open at all. 789 Forge MC opens fine otherwise.
Lol 1.6 sure has made it a little harder to make these mods compatible. And the same thing happens to me as well, but with other mods that add items and new textures, it turns the textures into black and purple chekcered tiles....buts thats when I use magic launcher.

Just so everyone knows, This is how you install the newest Forge and the newest Optifine. A guide provided by 1Megaprime96, a method provided by ntzrmtthihu777
If you're having problems with Forge & Optifine, you can install them without touching the core .jar file Posted Image
Here is how you do it:
Credit for this method goes to ntzrmtthihu777
who has got help from Jaden on esper/#minecraftforge (the right arg to use) and smbarbour for pointing out the tweet.
2. Navigate to your minecraft folder (%appdata%\Roaming for Windows), and enter the libraries\net folder
3. Create the following folders, .minecraft\libraries\net\minecraftforge\minecraftforge\9.10.0.789
4. Move the minecraftforge-universal-1.6.2-9.10.0.789.jar you just downloaded into this folder(9.10.0.789), and name the .jar: minecraftforge-9.10.0.789.jar
6. Navigate to your minecraft folder (%appdata%\Roaming for Windows), and enter the libraries folder.
7. Create the following folders: .minecraft\libraries\optifine\optifine\1.6.2_HD_U_A3
7. Move the OptiFine_1.6.2_HD_U_A3.zip still as a zip into this folder (1.6.2_HD_U_A3), and name the .zip: optifine-1.6.2_HD_U_A3.jar (it's a .jar now)
8. Go to .minecraft\versions, and copy/paste the 1.6.2 vanilla folder and name it Forge-1.6.2, then enter this folder and rename the jar to Forge-1.6.2.jar. Then rename the .json to Forge-1.6.2.json.
9. Open Forge-1.6.2.json (e.g. with notepad) and delete everything in it (Ctrl + A and delete). Now copy/paste the following text in it (in Forge-1.6.2.json) and Save the file.
Spoiler: Forge-1.6.2.json
10. Create a new profile in the launcher, tell it to use the Forge-1.6.2 version. Under Java settings, check JVM Arguments and add
-Dfml.ignorePatchDiscrepancies=true after -Xmx1G or whatever you may have.
Save Profile, select your new profile and Play the game!

Bug: Any mod installed with ML (Rei's Minimap, Ingameinfo) installed in mods folder will not work in anyway. They are loaded, but no key work, or Ingame GUI it's showed. The casuality: All of this mods uses a hook for GuiIngame.

Hey, how do you do Random Mobs with the new update, because /Villager/farmer.png is appearing and /Villager/farmer2.png is not. Random Textures is on, am I doing it wrong like I need to /Villager/famer.png/0.png and /Villager/famer.png/2.png?
The rest seems okay for the incomplete update. Just this is my issue.

Question:
I don't use mod loaders or magic launcher, I know.. kickin' it old school as it were...
If I have a jar file with optifine (for 1.6.2) installed on it, and optifine gets updated (again for 1.6.2), do i have to make a new jar file, or can i just copy over the new files over the old files?
help please: when i use the magic launcher, runs perfect, but textures of mods are missing, and when i use the official launcher, optifine is not working, but mod textures are fine, what happens?
If a person wanted Optifine for 1.6.1 how would they get it?
Probably by coding it yourself I guess at this point its useless to create a backward version of Optifine now that all mods are getting released for 1.6.2...
I've seen a patch for loading the purple/black textures somewhere on this thread, if someone can point it where it is exactly, I just installed Ropes+ by AtomicStriker and all the textures of his modded items are purple and black when using Optifine A3, at least if there was a way to load the default textures and not the Optifine version that aren't working, it could be better.
That you got it working *applause*
That it took such an ugly series of steps to get there. *facepalm*

The guide that I showed in my post came out before the OP was updated with one. I figured since so many people were having trouble installing the 2 together that the OP hadn't been updated yet. Sorry for not reading the OP every time for small edits.
This means you didn't do the assets folder part correctly I believe.
On an unrelated note, ever since I installed optifine I've been crashing regularly. Get this error whenevr I crash:
Client> Invalid memory access of location 0x0 rip=0x112b59edf
Game ended with bad state (exit code 139)
any help?
It turns out that you were partially right, and I hadn't done the assets folder correctly... I think it is correct now, but I got the exact same error message.
The in-jar assets folder should look like ("assets" > "minecraft" > "font","lang", "mcpatcher","optifine","texts","textures"), right?
If not, any idea what I'm still doing wrong?
No idea. I just did this and I now have the latest version of Forge running with the latest version of Optifine perfectly.
Well, I've tried using Magic Launcher and installing it easily. It had worked fine, but I couldn't use Re's Minimap and Inventory Tweaks while running OptiFine. When I tried the Libraries installation, it wouldn't even recognize the OptiFine files and wouldn't run. Would I just have to scrap Rei's Minimap and Inventory Tweaks?
but i dont have 786
check the installation methods on the OP.

Woah woah!
I want to rage so bad, i really want to use optifine but since it turns new textures from mods into THAT, ill just have to play without it
