Okay, so if I understand correctly. What was the biggest issues for modders going from 1.6.2 to 1.6.4, Minecraft itself or forge changing its code? I've noticed for example some mods never missed a beat but others just had "fits" when being updated (even if done by the same modder).
And if I understand your predicament. Forge changed its code but you need to be able to use both forge and not need it. So, in a way it seems like you are being asked to do two versions one forge and one non-forge. For those of us using optifine to help us with our huge mod folders and HD graphics, it really sucks because there are no real options. I could use MCpatcher for the HD graphics but I lose the graphic fine tuning I need. With 66 mods loaded the options get limited. Sad part is in order to keep most mods up to date Forge needs updated to 1.6.4.
I'll continue to support you in your efforts. I don't envy your task before you. But I do salute your vallant effort to help all of us to enjoy MC just a little more.
In my humble opinion, I don't really see why a non forge optifine is still needed. But maybe sp614x has an answer to that.
Since Forge comes with an installer, it is easier to use even if you only use optifine and after all mojang doens't seem to be delightet of direct modifications to their vanilla jar, which is exactly the point of the new launcher and the forge installer. Since it developed this way, I had far less problems and somehow I always got the game running, without constantly having to copy and paste around in the jar file...
After all, I can just agree to the last two passages of ArcaneFlash1 and I am really grateful a mod like optifine exists, enhancing the graphical experience in playing minecraft, but obviously the split between forge and non forge brings more problems than benefits or am I wrong?
I understand the advantages of a light version, as it is just a FPS booster for slow machines, but if I understand this right, it is a separate version anyway and if not: Would just the use of forge cost resources?
Before someone thinks wrong, I am not asking to change anything and it's not like i'm in a hurry. Mostly I just happily play the old version of mc till forge and optifine are running stable together(like now). I was just thinking if there couldn't be an easier way.
Can anyone explain this too me. I needed to check out some things in Forge .884 [1.6.4]. I'm using Misa's [64x], but it seems the resource pack is working fine without Optifine (no, I'm not using McPatcher). I thought I needed either program for the textures to work?
However it seems to fluxuate between ~48-77 fps and is a little choppy during movement.
Spoke to soon. finally froze after like 10-15 min.
As I understand it, since the change from texture packs to resource packs(mc1.6.1), there is no more theoretical limitation for the resolution of textures.
seems to be a problem with forge, 897 starts minecraft but freezes on loading the world.
@ArcaneFlash1
I don't think it is actually intended to play with higher res textures, or there would be some in the vanilla game, but maybe the will work on this in future releases.
If the FPS is dropping when turning around, then the GPU is most probably running out of graphics memory and have to swap to the slower system memory. The visible chunks (in front of the player) are in the graphics memory, the invisible chunks (behind the player) are swapped to the system memory. When turning around the GPU has to load the prevously invisible chunks in the graphics memory in order to show them and this causes a short FPS drop.
Huh, I guess I just don't really think that one of Nvidia's highest end GPUs is the problem but maybe. Thanks for the response.

got it to run too, by disabling AF in optifine, but playing minecraft with AF is 1/3 of the reason why I use optifine. I can Force 8xCSAA+8xSS with no performanceloss compared to optifine with 4x AA and I can force 16xAF with a 20fps gain, but by forcing AF, distant surfaces become green and I get white edges around blocks. the riva tuner fix sadly doesn't work with new graphics cards...
hope there will be a fix for 1.6.4, the other 2/3 are the huge distances and the overall FPS gain^^.

I am running .897 and it loaded. I had AA and AF off.
This weird glitch keeps showing up after i play for an extended amount of time, ever since i installed optifine with pixelmon. Once it starts it gets worse until i restart minecraft, any solutions?
The preview of OptiFine HD C4 Ultra crashed my Minecraft.
I run OptiFine with Forge 9.11.0.898 for Minecraft 1.6.4, and I added the correct argument.

It does load it to the menu, but loading a world causes a crash: http://pastebin.com/TrpedQnJ
This only occurs when AA or AF is used, it loads fine if both are turned off.
