Is it true that Connected Textures is a very taxing setting? For me it brings down my fps to 15 or so instead of 60 in some situations, no difference between fast/fancy either, does it depend on the pack?
What versions of Forge and OptiFine are you using?
I didn't use Forge. and I don't know why I'm receiving this 'fml/forge' error. ...
(I use Modloader 1.6.2 and OptiFine C4.)

Hey, what's wrong with the .zip files? I'm using a mac and running the optifine .jar file results in:
The Java JAR file “OptiFine_1.6.2_L_C4.jar” could not be launched.
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: OptiFine_1/6/2_L_C4/jar
Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: OptiFine_1.6.2_L_C4.jar

at sun.misc.Launcher$AppClassLoader.loadClass(Launcher.java:301)
at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:247)
It was so much easier for me to install when .zip files were offered; why is this no longer the case?
I've managed to manually overcome this by extracting the relevant class files from the jar and adding them to minecraft-1.6.2.jar via mcpatcher.
First: Optifine is NOT an executable. ".jar" at the end does not make it an executable java program. Your operating system lies.
Second: Whether the final letters are ".zip" or ".jar" has no effect/difference. They are the same.
Third: Optifine, with the .jar extension, can be dropped into the forge "mods" folder as a forge mod, directly. Or, you can rename the end to end in ".zip", and use it the way you use it before.
".jar" or ".zip" does not change the file contents, but does change what various programs expect to do with it. For example, your operating system wants to run the .jar, but it's not a stand-along program. Forge, on the other hand, wants to load the .jar as one type of mod (if it were named .zip, it would be loaded as a different type of mod).
(In regard to a mod that gives realistic animal genetics):
Would you really rather have bees that make diamonds and oil with magical genetic blocks?
... did I really ask that?
As described in first post for Multi-Core you need propertly disable threading for graphics driver in it options.
Had it disabled since 1.5.2 and it doesnt help my problem of losing half my body and chest textures. And those are the only ones I lose. Everything else is fine.
For some reason I can't install the Optifine profile on to the Minecraft launcher. I recently updated from Java 6 to Java 7 but I noticed that the mods that used to be executable .jar files are just regular .jar files now, so I can't open the installer. This is probably the wrong place to ask this so any help would be appreciated.

If you're using the regular Minecraft launcher (with Forge installed), you can just drop Optifine into the mods folder (+3 diamonds for Optifine joining the mods folder crew, whoop whoop!) versus using the Installer. Though if you want to the Installer regardless, try right clicking the Optifine.jar and attempt to open it with Java(TM) Platform SE binary program. That's how I got the Forge Installers to work so I'm assuming that the Optifine Installer will work the same way.

Thanks Kali. I knew about Optifine now going into the mods folder (I also agree with this greatly as it is easier installation, yes!). I did some looking around and I think I just had to restart my pc. My jar files are executable again. Thanks again though.

I tired using this mod with the Magic Launcher and can't get it to work.
Minecraft loads perfectly and I can view the OptiFine settings in Graphics options, but when I load a world, it plays for one second then freezes for about 5 seconds and keeps repeating. Makes the game unplayable. I'm using Mac and the jar version of the Magic launcher.
Any suggestions? Thanks.
FIXED:
Turned advanced open GL off. Now runs fine.
I stopped using MagicLauncher and had far, far fewer problems since.

Nevermind, I fixed it myself.
Still didn't find the answer :v

Yeah, that is what fixed it for me. Apparently Optifine doesn't work with the recommended version, just the latest release.
