This mod has only increased my FPS by about 10-30 FPS, BUT... even though the FPS doesn't change much, I've noticed that OptiFine really smoothes out the lag. Instead of lag spikes, there is a LOT less lag. Yay.
Still no word from the mod author on any suggestions of what I coudl do to solve me chunk loading problem? I don't want to pester him but he keeps glossing over my posts while he replies to everyone else.
If I didn't give enoguh info please say so or did something wrong, again please tell me so I can provide the things needed to help both of us help each other.

I don't like the Fog under water/lava thats why im using D4, not D5.
Can we please have an option on the 1.6 version to turn off the Fog under water/lava too.
Dear sp614x, you know 20 hours ago loaded MCP 8.01 Pre for minecraft 1.6.1=)
Link = Official Twitter MCP Team=)
MCP 8.01 Pre is for Minecraft 1.6, not for 1.6.1 which is the current one.
I tried it and there are a lot of changes concerning OptiFine, mostly resource packs and a new texture handling. Version 1.6.2 is also on the way.
Thanks for this amazing mod but can you make a feature to turn off blindness fog and have no fog at all. In the new update, when you have fog turned off, some fog can still be seen lingering at the edges of the loaded chunks.
First, I am dumb and am going to ask a dumb question. Does this work with 1.6.1? Or do I need to drop Optifine out of the loop if I want to play 1.6.1? Sorry for the noob question. I saw above someone said "get ready for the 1.6.1 compatibility requests", so I assume this does not work now.

The current state is:
- there is a new resource handling (resource packs)
- the texture handling is reorganized (again)
- the MCP mappings of the reorganized classes are not quite OK and need to be fixed.
Starting with fixing the MCP mappings so that the merge is lesl painful. Then the textures and so on.
You should test 1.6 before saying "I'll wait for Optifine to be updated before updating Minecraft". I had performance issues in 1.5.2 but now I have a stable framerate at ~150 fps.
Smooth chunk loading and Multi-core depends on the PC, If you're PC has Multi-core CPU; Then try that as It will gives faster world loading in most cases. Just all depends on the PC.
For the new Launcher, You create a local version and add mods to the jar like you normally would.
For a Local 1.5.2 version you would:
Download clean 1.5.2 from the new launcher.
Close the Launcher and go to the ".minecraft\versions" folder (For windows Press Win + R and type %appdata%).
Copy and Paste the 1.5.2 version and rename it to a custom name you want.
Inside that new folder, Rename the jar to the custom name you choose.
Also rename the .json file and open that file up in a text editor.
Change the "1.5.2" bit next to "id" to the custom name you choose, So if you choose "1.5 (Custom)"; You would put that where just the plain "1.5.2" bit was.
If all done correctly, You should be-able to open the Launcher and select that from the versions dropdown in your Profile settings.
You should also know that any older version than 1.6 (well 1.6.1 at the moment); Will still use the old directory for saves and mods etc.
Thank you, using your instuctions I have installed it.

Second, are you aware of this link? http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1866397-16161-optifine-hd-for-minecraft/
I assume it is virus, malware of just a ripoff?
Thanks,
Nope, it isn't compatible, and you probably shouldn't download that.
Specialy this mod that use the texture system that is completely changed... again..
Woah woah!
Well, look on the bright side... optifine has some passionate fans!Since so many people are asking, this is from the first page...
This mod adds support for HD textures and a lot of options for better looks and performance. Doubling the FPS is common.
