Still waiting for news about Minecraft Extended compatibility which seemed to be planned, but abandoned when Minecraft went 1.7... (smith_61 did finally update his mod) Between MCE, Millenaire and 25 other mods, and the fact that I'm on a laptop, I'm barely getting 15fps anymore (vanilla is about 30-ish).

i am really looking forward to downloading this, however, if i download just Optimine 1.7.3 how does it change minecraft like the look of it and what does it do to the game for such a large fps boost, im just a little unclear how the core game will be affected...
OptiFog Experimental with Background Chunk Loading v6
is available here: Download 1, Download 2
Highly Experimental
Use on a fresh minecraft.jar and a new world.
This version seems to be relatively stable, it will probably not crash and corrupt your world.
Things to look for:
- are all chunks rendered correctly, no transparent, black or flashing regions.
- is the FPS stable when loading chunks, how is it compared to standard OptiFog.
- are both CPU cores loaded (if available)
- errors on the console output
Known issues:
- it is normal for the lag to go up when the player is standing still (2sec) and to go down when the player is moving. OptiFog uses the pause to load more chunks per frame.
- the console warning "bit length overflow code 18 bits 6->7" is harmless, to be ignored
Please test and report back.
Edit: Advanced OpenGL is causing transparent chunks to appear, to be fixed.

The Minecraft Extended compatibility is currently on hold.
The reasons are:
- the integration is quite complex
- the way that MCE works generates a lot of texture switches which are slow, so OptiFog is probably not going to help a lot.

OptiFog Experimental with Background Chunk Loading v7
is available here: Download 1, Download 2
Fixes the problem with Advanced OpenGL generating transparent chunks.
Highly Experimental

On single core CPU: FPS much smoother, no more stuttering and freezes. No lag spikes on sunrise/sunset. On dual core CPU: even better, chunk loading affects only minimally the FPS.

The experimental v7 release works very well for me! No invisible/glitched chunks, chunk updates are high, and no errors are registering for me. The fps are around 30 for me when the distance is set to Far and so far it's been VERY smooth playing in both single and multiplayer. I'll mess with the settings some more to see if anything happens but it looks great!
I get 7 and 6 fps now instead of 15 or 16. Does optimine 1.7.2 work with Dokucraft dark? (I litteraly have the absolute lowest settings you couuld put for minecraft.)
Ive begun to notice that sometimes the chunks lighting isn't loaded while using Backround Chunck Loading but besides that everythings working fine.
(I'm using a 128x texture pack so memory may be the reason)
I'm using version 1.7.2(I like the piston dupe glitch.) and I have MC patcher and modloader both installed before I downloaded it. I'll just remove the files from minecraft.jar and play on my normal FPS. Wonder why it's lagging so much when I'm standing still.

I'll test it now.
One question:
Since Minecraft is nativly a single-threaded application, is that the reason it runs so well on older computers with a single, higher clocked core? Often I've found that a Pentium 4 at 3.9 Ghz out performs my I3 370m by far. Of course, the fact that the Pentium 4 is also paired up with a better GPU would also make a difference.
Test results:
No flashing or missing chunks, VERY stable FPS. I was in the 80s on tiny rendering distance. In short rendering distance, it was very playable. The lag-o-meter was constantly red, but it was still very playable.
Going to test on my Ubuntu partition, can't wait to see the results.
Same question here, I'm anxious to see how it turns out!
C? I thought only B was out. are you talking about the experimental one sp614x released?
Force update on the launcher. Re-install. Follow the directions.

Minecraft FPS drops down if the forum page is open
The browser uses too much CPU, it is probably the animated sky image at the top.

Singleplayer commands, but that didn't hurt my lag before. That's about it.
