I'm currently using the Multithreaded version of Optifine. I'm still getting lag spikes every 10 seconds or so. I've used the LSOD fix as well, but I saw no change. Is there a fix for this? And if there isn't, how do I change to the Classic version of Optifine after I installed the MT version? I don't want to start with a fresh minecraft.jar since I already have mods installed.
ok, back to my main problem. does anyone know why when i first installed Optifine MT i got like 80 fps (in multiplayer), but then it dropped to around 20? and whenever i have optifine and play singleplayer, my fps actually is reduced, and minecraft constantly freezes.
I have the same problem. It seems some of the more recent releases are just slower than normal minecraft, for some reason. The only one I'm using is the lag spike of death fix because that actually seems to speed up minecraft a bit; throwing ANY version of Optifine after HD_B for 1.7.3 in my minecraft slows it down.
Antialiasing or not, if it's going to run slower I don't want it. >.<
I don't really get why does decreasing memory shall help performance.
If Java has more memory than it needs, apparently it will swap the unused space to HardDisk, this process alone will slow your PC, then when it needs it again, it will need to pull the data back from the disk into RAM again slowing the PC.
Or at least that's the theory. I'm no Java Guru so I couldn't confirm or deny that. I personally run Minecraft with 4GB allocated no issues. Drive activity only occurs when loading chunks.
PS: I don't have any issues with lag or whatever else. I just use Optifine for the detail enhancements like fancy fog, FarView and mipmaps. As well as it being compatible with the BiomeWater mod.
I have a question: Why would you say that Minecraft needs to be run with lower memory ?
I tried it, and it was hella laggy. When I tried to go back to the normal world from the Nether, it said "Minecraft has ran out of memory".

Giving minecraft less memory reduces the amount of out of memory errors you'll get because it forces java to perform garbage collection more often, thus reducing the amount of memory it is using although if you force it too often it won't be able to keep up and run out anyway, so tasks that cause a lot of chunk updates, like switching dimensions, moving very fast, modifying a large area with worldedit, etc. can still cause issues.
Performance is poor (of course! xD)
Smooth lighting is not working at all :sad.gif: Any %.
EDIT: Before I forget, my ATI card supports up to 8x AA :smile.gif: (HD4850)
62 FPS is not that bad.
Some GPUs switch to SuperSampling at highes supported AA level which is slow.
4x or 6x AA may perform much better.
SmoothLighting is fixed.
Hi all, this is really good mod, but I have problem with it.
Some blocks (ladders, torchs) are blinks when I move. Look at this:
How can I fix it?
PS: I use ModLoader, Zan's minimap and x-ray.
Experimental OptiFine_1.7.3_HD_AA_G3
is available here: Download
Adds Antialiasing (AA) and Anisotropic Filtering (AF) to mipmaps.
What is new:
- AA and AF levels now configurable in Video Options -> Details, default is OFF.
- Fixed SmoothLighting
- VisualQuality ^ 2
- Allows up to 16x Antialiasing and 16x Anisotropic Filtering.
- Select 4x Mipmaps for best results.
- Forcing specific AA and AF levels from the graphics control panel could also work
- FPS about 30% less than classic OptiFine, depends on the GPU.
- HD textures should work
- Some transparent textures (glass) may show small color artifacts
- The rendering engine is reorganized so that it does not conflict with AA and AF
- Most probably not compatible with anything else, install on a clean minecraft.jar.

I have just installed the latest version. Now only ladders is blinks, but no torches. It's good :smile.gif:
Also I have not used mcpatcher for HD textures and font, because this patches are included in OptiFine, BUT flame on flaming zombies and skeletons does not shown! There is text "use patcher noob" instead flame.
Judging from the screenshots it seems like forcing AA and AF from the control pannel is 100X better. Normal optifine + Forced 8x AA and 16xAF >>> AA optifine, both in quality and FPS.
Also the AA version of optifine has visible black borders and artifacts, while forcing from the Nvidia control pannel renders perfectly :sad.gif:
I have some FPS comparisons between MT_G & AA_G3
Tested on a map seed "debug", which has just one spawn point pointing at the same direction. G_MT
High FPS, super fast world loading, no lag spikes AA_G3 [0xAA, 0xAF]
Huge drop in FPS even when not using antialiasing, visible black borders AA_G3 [4xAA, 4xAF]
Even more drop, of course :smile.gif:, still visible black borders AA_G3 [8xAA, 16xAF]
Not a huge difference, not a huge FPS drop. SHEEPS! :biggrin.gif:
AA effects are not visible here due to not so much terrain shown.
GPU: HD4850
CPU: Athlon II x4 630 @3.12 GHz
Settings:
4x Mipmaps
Distance: far
Smooth lighting 100%
Brightness 100%
Thanks for the info.
This is what I call a quality report with screenshots and all.
The black borders on grass sides are fixed now.
yeah I really hope this can be made possible as this is a MUST-HAVE mod.
Forge 1.0.5 is about to be released and RP 1.7 needs it and I'd like to update these but MC is unplayable, well unenjoyable atleast, without OptiFine so I'm probably stuck with 1.0.3 and E_MT until someone makes a merged patch.
The compatibility with Forge is underway.
There are some pending changes in Forge which are required for the compatible version. The conflict point is the efficient support for infinite sprites.
Well i uninstalled the yogbox mod and that solved my busy hard drive issue. I wish i could have kept it but it had some bugs anyhow. Did a fresh install of minecraft then installed optifine. runs perfectly without lag and no busy hard drive issues.
Does this experimental Optifine fix the water textures appearing for certain mod items? Sorry if I sound like a broken record, I just really want to see this fixed. XD
Feed my dragon by clicking on it!

Make sure OptiFine is installed last.
Installed AA version, but just get blank screen after login.

Error log, console output?
MCPatcher can start Minecraft and show the console output and errors.
Weird, can't reproduce anymore. Now it works no matter what I do, for some reason!

set APPDATA=C:\Minecraft

It says that it cannot find javaw (yes I do put in my username and password) any help?
Thanks for the info.
