Did you mention that it's the only way to play Industrialcraft (and its various add-ons,) Buildcraft, Railcraft, Forestry, Factorization, Thaumcraft, NotEnoughItems, Ender Storage, ExtraBiomesXL, EE3, GregTech (though it deserved to be set apart from the other IC2 add-ons,) Iron Chests, Mystcraft, Thermal Expansion, Steve's Carts, The Twilight Forest, and Balkon's Weapon Mod properly with HD texture packs?
uhm, you can actually also enable hd features with mcpatcher, which also usually has the most recent version of the features, but it sadly does not give you any performance and rendering improvements like optifine does.

Well as a long time lover of optifine I've had to just stop using it. I do not gain noticeable fps anymore, and I get a lot of graphical glitches including: bad models for mobs, torn chunks, blocks not rendering, slow loading etc. It's probably just my machine/config but ever since 1.4.x i just haven't had good luck
Chunk Loading -> Default should fix the graphical glitches.
I'm still getting the same disappointing results in HD_U_D5 that I was getting in HD_U_D4. I don't have this problem in HD_U_D3, nor do the chunks flicker, so it's not that "threaded optimisation" issue. I can't even find a setting for that in the AMD Catalyst driver settings. Turning off multi-core chunk loading didn't fix it either.
Detail of problem: whenever I change a graphical setting or switch texture packs, all of the chunks within a certain radius of me turn invisible. The only way to fix this is to not change a graphical setting, and I often find myself changing settings during gameplay, so it's very annoying.

Please help, I have installed the launcher and loaded the zip file for the lite edition and I am not seeing any of the options that I should be. I am on a fresh minecraft install. I only see the default settings when I click options. I also tried updating java (i had the latest version anyway) and redownloading the zip. Also is it correct that there are only 6 .class files contained within the zip file?
You don't put the .zip into the mods folder, you place the the .class files directly into your minecraft.jar. And if I were you, I'd get the Ultra
version.

MCPatcher + Forge: This automatically disable the R.M., Custom Colors and Connected textures for a compatibility issue.
every game has a v sync option, they totally forgot this in this mod, when i move sideway i see its out of line now.
it just really seems stupid to me in graphical program with a ton of options to forget v sync.
back to normal mode.

Ugh! I'm so freakin aggravated right now! I just can not get any of the Optifine version to work right. They all have the same issue! I load into the game at my base, I travel out a ways, come back, and half of my stuff is invisible! I have to restart the game to fix it. I've disabled every option one by one, tried smooth, Multi-core, default chunkloading. Tried advanced opengl off and on, tried everything I can possible thing of. Updated forge, downgraded forge, no difference. Signs have no text, sections of Buildcraft pipes go invis, barrels from factorization go invis..... I've given up. Have used Optifine for god knows how long without any major hassles till now. I simply just simply had to remove it for now. Any suggestions would be great!

Maybe a new update breaks that, but it does matter which order you install in.
why would sp6 put this if it didnt work.....If anyone is using magic launcher...its Forge on top, w/e mods under it and optfine at the very bottom (look below). While im at it, why am I getting one error when i didnt have one before? Ive had it since D4 but its not breaking anything

Scratch that last post, i just had to compress optifine. But it give me ??? for version, and "no mods found" for the other section. When i tested minecraft, minecraft ran fine, but the mod wasn't there

V-Sync was implemented into vanilla, though. I'm not really sure on the technical side of things, but are they not the same in effect?
