Would this stop the game from crashing when I leave the Nether?
I wouldn't know about that, I have not encountered that issue. I was replying about the input handling issue that you asked about(with the shift key).
From personal experience, the game runs perfectly fine with the 2.9.0 branch. You could try updating to 2.9.0 and testing the nether issue. Let us know if it works for you =)
Not a server, a single player world, no plugins, and just switching back to D3 makes it stop.
I have the same problem, playing single player survival, only other mod is TMI. It only occurred with the latest update to OptiFine. All my signs are wiped out, not showing characters. Restarting the game brings them back, but then it occurs again and the signs start to go blank again.

I'm having same problem as BigGrayGolem and Sefirah. Switching back to D3 fixed issue.
Whelp, Optifine and BTW have permanently parted ways since B2 from 1.3.2 official. Unless there's some way to work around the incompatibility, I'm just gonna put a big thumbs down for this mod. Sorry, just my 2 cents.

I just took the Minecraft Noob test! Check out what I scored. Think you can beat me?!
hey i have recently realized that my fps is about 20, as opposed to 13, when i play offline even though i dont have lan on. it would be cool if there was an option to play offline even when i have internet.
Since people for some reason live by this mod, could somebody explain why this is happening? Honestly I'd love to just use MCPatcher instead however it doesn't work with the FTB modpack. It's not the version either because it's no different across any of them and the reason I'm using B4 is because it seems to be the only one out of them that doesn't cause mass flickering / constant texture corruption on nearly every npc.

Do you have Chunk Loading set to Multi-Core? If so, disable Threaded Optimization in your video card options.

Nope. It's set to default. I've also tried tried turning off threaded optimization as well which did nothing. If it helps I have an i5 2500k @ 4.5ghz, a GTX 560 ti and 8gb of ram. The framerate issue only happens when I use a texture pack as well and with my computer... Yeah, it's not my computer at fault.
Optifine is completely useless to anybody with a half decent computer and it causes more problems than it solves. The only people that even get an fps boost are the ones that completely strip the game of everything it has.

BTW separated from Forge and currently includes pieces of an old Forge version.
OptiFine just happens to be compatible with latest Forge.

sp614x correct me if I am wrong here but I have read the following in the Better than Wolves forum concerning Optifine:
"sp614x has apparently made a change to the way Optifine pulls textures from files (BTW thread's words), which is resulting in it pulling textures from vanilla texture files instead of the BTW texture files."
"Optifine modifies some of the same class files as BTW"
"Optifine also started editing more base classes that BTW used, resulting in further feature loss and crashes.
Since the author of Optifine states in his install instructions that Optifine should always be installed last, the responsibility of keeping compatibility falls to him."
"Optifine will work with Better than Wolves if you dont copy .class files: auw, avg, jw."
There is some misunderstanding between the two mods and who is responsible to fix it. Personally I appreciate everything you have done and I know you don't owe anything to anybody but just asking nicely would it really be that hard for you to make it compatible?
Flowerchild has made it clear that he is not going to do any work on his part
So I guess we just want to see if you would be willing to help us out. There is a big community out there that would love compatibility. We are looking for help wherever we can get it.
From personal experience, the game runs perfectly fine with the 2.9.0 branch. You could try updating to 2.9.0 and testing the nether issue. Let us know if it works for you =)

Other mods installed:
* Forge 6.4.1.411
* Buildcraft 3.2.2
* Jammy Furniture v4.1 Beta 2
* Matmos r20
* Millenaire 3.2.6
* Railcraft 6.10.0.0
I have NONE of your mods, nor Forge, so it's definitely not the mods then. Strange, I didn't think OptiFine could cause that error
