Ive been having this problem and its for sure optifine since every single time with it my computer shuts down. I played on vanilla and I havent had the problem. I want to know how to fix this issue so I can use optifine and get the fps boost and other things the mod has to offer.(I have the problem with any version of Optifine not just 1.7.10 I tried with 1.7.4 and it still happens) It doesnt shut down my computer immediately after some tie playing it shuts down. The 1st time i got the mods in the old versions I had no problem but now it shuts my computer down. I dont know when it started happening or what version. Sometimes I play fine the whole time, sometimes it takes longer to shut down, and sometimes it just keeps doing it around every 20 mins or so. I cant play without it since the fps boost helps extremely with pvp and playing mincraft in general, if anyone knows thank you

It sounds like your computer is overheating; is it a laptop? They are particularly prone to this, a fan may be stuck or broken or the computer needs a cleaning to get rid of dust. The reason Optifine may be causing it to overheat while vanilla works fine is because it makes the CPU/GPU work harder by changing the rendering code (e.g. if the GPU is limiting FPS one way to improve FPS is to have the CPU do more of the work, which will increase CPU load and vice-versa), it may also be because you had it on Vsync in vanilla but put it on unlimited FPS in Optifine (Vsync limits framerate to your monitor's refresh rate so your computer doesn't need to work so hard; monitors can't display anything higher anyway so there isn't any reason to go to unlimited FPS except for benchmarking/performance tuning; note that Vsync only helps if your FPS is normally higher, usually 60).
it is to bad all shaders require this, because it makes my game run worse, i get chunks disappearing and just flickering like a strobe light. i've messed with all settings i could, nothing worked. it also hogs ram like crazy, normally i have a 10% to 20% ram use, with optifine 50% to 70%. texture packs are not an issue and this machine runs skyrim with a ton of mods at pretty high settings.
i used the default textures and it still runs just as bad as my 128 packs.

Make sure "Lazy Chunk Loading" and "Load Far" are off. Also make sure javaw.exe and Minecraft.exe have Threaded Optimization turned off in your Nvidia control panel.

Please do not make posts begging for updates. It just annoys people by shoving their inbox full of spam. Also, he can't just update this thing overnight. It takes a long time, and cannot even begin until MCP updates, which, if you have been reading this thread at all, has been said far too many times to count.

I've had Minecraft for a couple years now and this is the first time I've taken the time to comment on a thread. I personally prefer vanilla game-play without any mods and play on an average power laptop. The game lags almost too much for it to be enjoyable most of the time. Once I discovered OptiFine though, that all changed. I am usually happy when the game has an update, but at the same time so disappointed that I'll have to wait for this mod to be updated. Even with that said, I don't care how long it takes to update, I am always very grateful with it is finished. Thank you for making Minecraft an enjoyable experience.
Alright, here is a question that has been bugging me for a while now. I want to run one of 2 recource packs (or a combo of both since ones is unfinished), both are 32x packs and they seem to work fine without MCPatcher or Optifine. These packs are Dokucraft, The Saga Continues and Lithos:Core. Now I know that the add on pack to Lithos won't work without either Optifine or MCPatcher but my question is this; What could go wrong if I use these resoruce packs without any of the things they "need" to work? With Minecraft having updated to support higher pixel recource packs, I seem to have no problem with seeing the new textures. I am just curious as what will happen with this new 1.8 release if this will crash/corrupt my worlds/game.
Hey there, I have a quick question / am needing some help with changing some capes.
I currently have 2 capes that are not wanting to change their username (All the others are able to be changed) Here is a photo of my " Login " area, any and all important information as been blotched out:
I am unsure why it will not allow me to change the " superseth45 " or the " MsVerita " capes on the " Change " Button. If someone could possibly assist me out and or sp614x getting it fixed that would be most grateful. Thank you all!
Do you even know what MCP does? If you do you would understand why it's taking so long.
No, I do understand exactly what MCP does. It's basically the groundwork needed for most, if not, all MineCraft mods out there, similar to how Optifine is the groundwork for shaders out there like SEUS. Even if 1.8 is as large of an update as people say it is, you would think MCP would be a bit quicker on the process of getting everything ready for 1.8. It could merely just be my impatience getting to me like it has many others.
So really, okay, I do understand. I'm sure it's very frusturating for all of us. Not that I actually NEED Optifine to play Minecraft, I just like having it.
Apparently they can't. Which is sad cause I give vital information to avoid confusion and more questions and then my posts get deleted ... *flips table*
Then people say "What is MCP?!" Well... if my posts weren't reported & deleted, you would know! xD
I don't think it would help much, considering most of the people who ask don't even bother to look two posts above their own.

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
i used the default textures and it still runs just as bad as my 128 packs.

So... What exactly does this have to do with OptiFine?
