if i try and install any optifine like only the standard one, it closes my minecraft when i go into a world or a server and does this need modloader cause ive tried using modloader to it to and it still doesnt work and someone making a tutorial on youtube said it needs modloader. the only other mod im using is singleplayer commands but they say its compatible.
This is a little off topic. However since this thread is about fine tuning with OptiFine and overall performance, I thought this would be a good place to ask for help. Please let me know what info from OptiFine I should add.
Can someone help me figure out what I'm doing wrong? I am playing Minecraft 1.2.5 and am using OptiFine 1.2.5 HD (Standard or Smooth). When playing, my characte would respond fine when using the keyboard. However, when I go to turn or hit a mob, my response time os off. I'm either turning too much or not hitting on targt. I don't have a problem when building, though.
My mouse sensitivity is set to 48%. I had similar problem when it's set to 18% or 68%. My system is a 2.8GHz Intel with 2GB of RAM. I've a GeoForce 6200 PCI card with 512MB of video ram. I'm using Windows 7 with Java 7. I do have Avast 7 (AV) and broadband.
Right now, I am playing Vechs' Lethamyr "E" on Easy. Because of the responsiveness, I definitely don't want to venture pass Normal. I will typically play Easy as I have a chance of surviving. The grahic is rendering fine on my system. Thanks to OptiFine, this game is playable.
Now, if I can just figure out the mouse problem. The mouse I'm using is a Logitech Optical mouse w. wheel.

While you're at it, make sure your Java is up-to-date. And, if you're on a 64-bit O.S., make sure to install both the 32-bit and 64-bit editions of Java. The 64-bit edition of Java does not include the 32-bit edition nor vice versa.
Finally, before doing your installs (and planning to start with a fresh minecraft.jar file), make sure you temporarily revert back to the default texture pack first.
Note: DO NOT update MinecraftForge to the 3.2.4.x branch if you absolutely need OptiFine! Recent changes have caused an installation of OptiFine+ Forge to crash horribly.

I think you're talking about mouse lag here. I got some mouse lag in Minecraft, and its irrelevant to Optifine. My mouse is a Logitech G700, which has a response time of 1ms, plus it works great with all other games, so its definitely Minecraft.
I dont really know if this can be fixed, but usually mouse lag in games relates to the CPU and how much load is handling. I do have Smooth Input to On, from the Options and I've also tried turning it off.
Unless you mean something else.
Thanks Morpheas,
I think you're right about it being a mouse lag. I've used this mouse when doing some basic photo editing in Fireworks and didn't have any problems. It's only in Minecraft did I see this. I have to get the sensitivity down to where it's manageable. Other than this, Optifine is the main reason for being able to play.

I generated a new world, let it load for a few seconds and got this:

So, I have a problem. I am using the latest version of Optifine Smooth, and I keep getting this bug where the chunks are transparent. It's really annoying, as I'm trying to build but this keeps getting in my way. Do you know what causes it/how to fix it?
Try different versions, settings, and orders of install for your mods. Worked for me in the end. Generally, always install optifine last so it installs over everything else.
Anyway, there's a little conflict with this and SinglePlayerCommands' Freecam command, crashes.
I'm using windows 7, minecraft 1.2.5 with magiclauncher, and modloader, SPC, and optifine MT B2 are the only mods used for this. My java version is slightly out of date, but this is neccessary: newer versions cause my game to pause whenever I use my laptop's touchpad scrollbar.
Basically, just install those, use the freecam command (open chat and type "freecam") and then this:

I am not 100% sure why SPC and Optifine aren't in that mod list but I have no clue about this stuff, but yeah, it's just modloader, SPC, and optifine multithreaded B2 on vanilla 1.2.5, and they're all definitely working, hahah.
@Morpheas: Also probably worth mentioning that the Multithreaded version generally provides a huge performance boost to multi-core computers (i.e. everything "High-End"), especially if the individual cores on say, a Quad Core, aren't running extremely fast themselves.
Ok, so I used iChun's Portal Gun mod, and it requires MinecraftForge. So I installed both of them, but the HD Texture fix stopped working for items. Can you fix this because I asked the MinecraftForge Staff, but they said to consult with you.
P.S.: I'm using Optifine_1.2.5_HD_MT_B2
Is it possible to make connected textures for a nether portal (so that 2x3 portal blocks connect to one big portal) And to animate that?
This would be cool actually.
Along the lines of af and connected textures i'm not a coding genius and i haven't looked at your code but internally with connected textures could you render a face as a solid square and not as multiple blocks? Just throwing out ideas, I can't wait for a workable AA/AF with smooth and MC editions.

Did you end up installing forge after Optifine? Try reinstalling optifine over forge.

I don't edit the minecaft.jar, I use sk89q's MC Launcher (if you havent heard of it, it's basically like Magic Launcher, but it looks better to me) . It works fine when I install all of them.
EDIT: So I started using Magic Launcher, and it said the status for MinecraftForge is "Not Compatible"
So Optifine must be conflicting in some way?
Forge 3.2.4 is not currently compatible with Optifine. Try an earlier version.
Ok, thanks!
EDIT: I tried using the lower version, but now Optifine doesnt even patch.
EDIT2: So I used the Magic Launcher and fiddled with the mod order and I got it all to work even with the Forge 3.2.4 becuase 3.2.3 didn't work.
Read the OP. Turn off Threaded Optimization in nVIDIA Control Panel.
Well, I definately don't have a multi-core processor, but I tried Normal. Even worse.
1. Try B2 Standard (there's no special "normal" version - they all "normal").
2. Follow installation instructions.

Install OptiFine LAST. Or, if using Magic Launcher, "list" OptiFine LAST.
Also, update your LWJGL if you haven't already.

Seems more prominent in the multi core version, and also is more severe on a world I've played on for a while.

It just takes up a bunch of RAM, for some reason.
