Try disabling "Advanced OpenGL" in the OptiFine settings in Minecraft. Linux drivers aren't great when it comes to supporting OpenGL.

Also, depending on the version of LWJGL you have, you may have to try upgrading/downgrading your version of LWJGL.

The OpenGL support in ATI drivers apparently aren't that good. I believe sp614x has mentioned that a few times if I remember correctly. Even if you have the latest video drivers.

In addition to updating your video drivers, make sure the rest of your system drivers are also up to date.

You didn't state which edition of OptiFine you are trying to use. I don't know if that processor is a multi-core processor but I believe the CPU drivers fore multi-core Intel chips also lack some performance compared to AMD processor drivers.

If you are trying to use the multi-core edition of OptiFine, you may want to try the "Smooth" edition instead. Also, if you are trying to use any "AA/AF" edition, that may be at least part of the reason for your performance issues too.

Also, make sure you have both the 32-bit and 64-bit editions of Java installed. The 32-bit edition of Java does not get installed with the 64-bit edition of Java.

While you are at it, you will want to update your LWJGL if you haven't already.

Last thing, you are installing OptiFine LAST aren't you?

When I install OptiFine the mc screen start to blink there is a solution?

ok having another issue.....

why cant i colour grass blocks like dirt blocks? i want to be able to have a different colour dirt but the grass block just looks odd. really we should be able to colour the dirt bit whislt leaving the grass colour on the side intact. must be possible surely

Next update wish list:

Extended custom animations (e.g. blinking eyes for mobs etc.)
Xp orb custom colour (so you can have different pulsing colours)

MCPatcher has these, so I'm hoping they'll be included in the next version of OptiFine

If not, the fix will be added to OptiFine.

The properties file I used were in line with the instructions from the MCPatcher thread so I assumed it would work with OF, considering everything else does. That's helpful information right there. How about if I was just as careless to ask you to if your monitor was on? Just post your actions leading up to the crash and include the error report.

well I tried again and it crashed so can you help me!

I'm having some trouble with this mod and Redpower (another awesome mod). Almost all of the items apear as grey fuzzy squares or pink squares. My friend told me that it is a problem with optifine and that I needed the current version (which I actually have). Very confuesed...

On the other hand, this mod is amazing! Minecraft runs much smoother now and I wish it did the same thing to the rest of the computer XD

When i try to install the mod with magic i get 5 error messages. And if i attempt to run minecraft with optifine i just get a white screen. Could it be because i don't have my meta-inf folder? Java is up to date, both 64 and 32 bit versions. Any help with this?

I think this may be a bug with Opti and the additional pipes add on for build craft. I get a bug like that is like minecraft cant read any of the textures from the additional pipes with and has the solid pink texture.

The textures work fine with fine without Opti. So im wondering is this a bug with compatibility or do I have to mess with my config. files.
